A couple of years ago I found my journal from 11th grade English class. It was 1985. And it was basically just an entire spiral notebook filled with page after page of promises to myself that one day I would own a 1985 Corvette. It's been a lifelong obsession. Every time I'd get close, something would change my plans. Wife. Kids. House expenses. Always some new financial roadblock. But now, at age 56, with the wife now an ex wife, and with the kids all grown, I finally achieved my dream just a few weeks ago when I purchased a pristine, low mileage 2000 c5 Corvette. Meh. Close enough. I drove it for two amazing, glorious days. Then I gave it to my 21 year old son. My time and glory days are behind me. But his are just beginning. The one thing better than driving my dream car, is seeing my son drive my dream car, and watching it instantly become his dream car as well.

yeah, even in the 360p version of this episode that we are more used to seeing that effect was still very well defined and visible. That was the part of this clip that I was most looking forward to seeing in HD, and it didn't disappoint. I'd even say it might have been a bit more noticeable in lower quality.

Its really funny how that guy helping Hammond wasn't technically wrong about the tires, but he was giving advice about 200+ top speed chasers to a dude in a stock production car, let alone someone who was only aiming for 150
@Moakmeister5 күн бұрын
How was he right? Decreasing tire pressure just increases rolling resistance right?
@DesFTW_4 күн бұрын
@@Moakmeister Yes, but I'd wager it was what one of the other guys was saying about if you have too much power you just spin your wheels. So if you have enough power the downside of the rolling resistance is worth it if it means that you can keep good traction for longer. TLDR at high enough speeds, traction is the limiting factor and not horsepower (on salt flats).
@parsatayebi4 күн бұрын
@@Moakmeister after a certain point the effect reduces from the spinning
@TheNuclearBolton3 күн бұрын
So just add crazy camber and run the air pressure higher to help the bead hold w/o worrying about the increase in tire diameter… or get shorter tires to compensate for the over inflation… idk

I remember when this originally came out on the BBC. Had it recorded on VCR, so me and my brother could watch it before school the following morning. Had to wind it past the adverts though. Such fun and simpler times. I knew alot of us would appreciate the time we had with these 3. I miss them more than anything.
@CrimsonKage8 күн бұрын
I wish we even knew about it here in the states back then, a lot of us are discovering it for the first time after watching The Grand Tour or Clarkson's Farm. I myself picked it up around about season 13? And only after accidentally channel-surfing across the Vietnam special playing at a rare time they even aired it here. My mom and I started watching it thinking it was a travel show, and when I went and found it on my PC later, I was slightly disappointed that it was a car show. A few months later, I'm into cars solely because of Top Gear, even bought my first one at age 25 after being utterly apathetic about them prior. Top Gear quite literally changed my life and it's a damned shame I couldn't grow up with it like a lot of people in the UK or many other countries. What's worse, is that a lot of seasons don't have High-quality releases, and since Amazon is the only place I can think of where you can watch it, most of us yanks only know the butchered, censored, non-copyrighted music version of the show, on top of the lower quality inherent in streaming. Unless you find a torrent online, and credit to the fans who AI upscaled the episodes due to the lack of higher quality official releases, and keep the downloads updated for years on-end, but we can't really access it in the same way here.
