can you help me to figure out the shear flow in a Π-like (C rotated, 3:00) beam loaded symmetrically on its top ?

For no Torsion the plane of bending should pass through a)neutral axis of the section b)shear centre of section c)be parallel to one of the principle axis ?

I can calculate the shear stress on the section by shear flow and the distance of the shear center by taking moment from a certain point but there's a lack of understanding. about the twisting concept due to the couples. you made these things too easy to comprehend

Thanks. You are absolutely correct. Taking moment about any point, such that the net twisting moment is zero will indeed help locate the shear center.

Sir why the anti clockwise moment given by the shear flow of the free end face ( where the external force is working) is not considered?
@solidmechanics-prof.jaygho7500
@solidmechanics-prof.jaygho7500 2 жыл бұрын
Great question. You see, shear forces and bending moments are the *internal* effects of externally applied loads.. That means in this example, instead of taking the section at some distance away from the free end, if I took it at infinitesimally small distance dx, the effect will still be the same. Hence, these clockwise moments keep happening at every section away from the free end. At the end itself, it is just the P. Another way to think of it is that this is how the beam "reacts" when the external force P acts. I hope the explanation was clear.
