@@peterwilliamallen1063 You're an aboslute legend, Peter. I was born in Birmingham but grew up all over the world, but that love and connection never die. You've defended its importance and centrality to the UK like a soldier and I commend you! I always find it extremely strange that people keep overlooking the nation's second city. Even in London, there are literally ZERO streets named after Brum or Brum areas whereas every other place around the country (and other countries) gets a mention. I still haven't worked out why that is. Adding to your brilliant list, I'd remind people that The Shire from Lord Of The Rings is based on the green spaces of Birmingham where JRR Tolkien grew up. Birmingham's jewelery quarter is the biggest and most important in Europe as all silver, gold and diamonds would not be recognised unless assayed there. Birmingham is also the only city apart from the capital city to have its own philharmonic and ballet companies---sure signs of cultural significance and vitality. I could list ten more things but I'm sure you know them already. Cheers, Peter. I really enjoyed your informed replies to the rather less informed.

@peterwilliamallen10632 жыл бұрын
@zayne Mal Firstly., if you think that you do not live in Birmingham, Brummies or true Brummies are the most friendly people about and are definitely not bigoted what ever you mean by that, Birmingham is a modern cosmopolitan City, with the largest amount of green space than any other city in Europe all back to back slums were knocked down in the 1960's and replaced with modern housing in the inner city areas and the areas around the inner city were modernised in the 1970's. the reason the housing in the Handsworth /Small heath are are going backwards is the people who own them not looking after them, so either you do not live in Birmingham, visited Birmingham or know any thing about Birmingham or have never travelled around Birmingham, in which case do not run this great City Down, it is not Brummies that are bigoted it is the Asian people who are bigoted and go round with a chip on their shoulder.
@peterwilliamallen10632 жыл бұрын
@zayne Mal Wow you do seem to have racist problem mate, firstly you are talking to a WHITE older generation BRUMMIE mate and as you do not know me you have insulted me , firstly you know nothing of Birmingham, Brummies are not Racists, they are not bigoted and do not live among their own Kind, Birmingham City council has no control over where people live, it is the people who choose where they want to live. Next it is the Asian community that cause segregation and the younger ones at that not Brummies, Birmingham has always been a melting pot of immigration to do with jobs, and we welcome every one into this great City, there has never been any separation of people, the only segregation has been caused by Asian young people walking around with a chip on their shoulder causing problems, so as I said you know nothing of Birmingham as if you lived in Birmingham you would know better, so every thing is in your tiny brain mate and by the way you write your comment you are definitely racist.
@peterwilliamallen10632 жыл бұрын
@zayne Mal Oh my God you are atypical Asian Racist, I take it as you know so much about the East End of London, you come from London, London's East End was after the white English moved on, inhabited by Irish, Immigrants, then The Jewish community moved in and then the Asians moved in making it an Asian Ghetto, One side of my Family came from London, and the other Half Wales, my family finally settled in the 1920's in Birmingham, for centuries now Birmingham has welcomed immigrants from initially Wales, Ireland and Scotland, then Jewish people arrived, then the West Indian Community and finally Pakistani and Indian people and Chinese, now Londoners and Polish people are moving to Birmingham, so mate Birmingham has always been a mixing pot of cultures and It is not me my Asian friend, Brummies welcome every one and any one to our, my great City, and I am sorry to say what is the point in saying London is more multicultural than Birmingham, it is bound to be, there are more than 9 million or more citizens living in London, plus visitors and foreign Students from all over the World so it is bound to be multicultural than Brum. So how are we Brummies not used to seeing different cultures, I do not think you know what you are talking about and this is just your idea of things, As far as living in harmony with other cultures, I am afraid yes we do as Birmingham has been accepting immigrants since Anglo Saxon Times and no I do not speak for my self. The only people who cause segregation are the young Asian men, not any one else, so explain why I am deluded and you are not as it is you that bought up this racial bit. A typical Londoner who knows nothing about Birmingham, has never visited Brum and thinks he knows all about Birmingham, to put thing right, I live in an area of Birmingham which is a mixed race area with White families, West Indian families, Pakistani Families and Eastern European Families and we all live in harmony.
@peterwilliamallen10632 жыл бұрын
@zayne Mal Oh @Zayne Mal, you sound so up your arse and Racist mate, a typical southerner / Londoner who knows nothing that exist past the Watford Gap on the M1, firstly mate I am not at all racist as are Brummies not, I was explaining the problem with young Asian men, and yes they are racist in that in some areas in many Cities they think they are above the Law ant it was their parents that moved to the UK for a better life and like London there are lots of White areas but in some of those there are Indian Families, GP's and Surgeons living there who are Asian. The reason a lot of White People moved out of London is that they are working class and were priced out of owning a house in Central London because yuppies priced them out and which is the reason now that a lot of Londoners are moving to Birmingham as even a top class house in Sutton Coldfield or Edgebaston in Birmingham with the cost of commuting on a train to London is far cheaper than living in London and whether Southerners or Londoners like Birmingham or not is their problem mate as Brummies are not keen on Londoners either, yet in the early days, the Tube would not of operated with out Birmingham as the Tube Trains were built in Birmingham.
