These disappearances are so bizarre, and incredibly unsettling. I don't know if you know this, but David Paulides has a new documentary coming out in November called "Missing 411 - The UFO Connection". A trailer for it came out a few days ago. Scary stuff.

I know you don't really focus on Irish cases but a similar case to the ones on here was that of Mary Boyle who was a 6 year old girl from Donegal who disappeared in 1977 when she visited her grandparents farm. Her uncle left to return a ladder to another farm and Mary followed him until they reached a pool of water which was too deep for her to walk through. She then turned back in the direction of her grandparents farm but was never seen again the fact that the uncle was the last person seen with her surely raises suspicions about his involvement in her disappearance. It's the longest running missing child's case here in Ireland and gets extensive media coverage .

Regarding the first disappearance. I don’t believe Janet walked 12 miles away from her house in the span of 20 hours only to be found covered in bruises and scratches. What I think happened was, she may have been abducted by someone and about 2/3rds of the way where she was found, she came to and fought her abductor all the while her two dogs were hot on her trail. Janet escaped with the help of the one dog that was with her when she was finally located by that pilot while the other dog lost track of her and turned around only to come back home. That explains why the dog who came home seemed depressed and in no mood to venture back outside. This also explains why Janet was severely disoriented and covered in scratched and bruises. I’m sorry, you don’t get covered in bruises while quietly walking at your own leisure when the terrain is beyond flat, with no trees, creeks, rocks, or major slopes in elevation. Something out of the ordinary happened to this poor girl who up to this point had zero history of leaving the confines of the back garden. Whether it was due to an abduction by a local or something completely paranormal/supernatural, the one thing that’s for sure, A 6 year old child doesn’t walk 12 miles away from their house on a whim, especially when asked what happened, they can’t fully come up with words and sentences to explain why they were so damn far away from home.

Husband has a wife who happens to frequently go on late night walks alone, typically to ‘cool off’ from an exchange with her spouse, without even mentioning it to someone beforehand and who disappears while on one of these walks? And the husband is a lawyer/prosecutor? I feel like that’s a tale we’ve encountered again and again, where the husband ends up guilty of it. There’s so many foul play scenarios that would explain the way she died/autopsy results as well as how and when she was found. I presume with his background he’d be very good at knowing how to do it and get away with it too. The fact someone at the bar saw she was unhappy when leaving is definitely a clue that points in that direction, as the friends they were with earlier could have developed a level of blindness towards the issues in the relationship, especially if the husband was a strong personality that intentionally kept it that way, which would explain why it was only on the way out, when away from friends, she started to express herself-which obviously didn’t end well. Drowning is an excruciating way to die, so one can only hope she was forced unconscious by some alternative means beforehand and didn’t have to experience it. And that if it truly was foul play, the perpetrator doesn’t get away it. Accidentally drownings can happen, but the circumstances for this case are very suspicious. Happily married women don’t go on unannounced walks in lonely/dangerous places in the middle of the night.

I am living in the million year old rainforest in Borneo, many disappearances during the hiking or trekking in the mountain... Some found alive eating earth worms under the bayen tree,(they said some human being give them nice foods) some cant remember what happened during their disappearance, ....some not so lucky.... one of my hiking friend, before he disappear, he told his colleague, he dreamed himself the jungle standing next to a deer, yet the animal didn't notice his attendance... week later he disappeared during our hiking, that trek only one way up, the same way down... a searching team form by more then 300 peoples frm NGOs, villages and park rangers searched thoroughly the mountain, yet found no sign of him. 12 days later they found his body 500 meters away frm the trekking trail, where he last seen, stuck in between the big rocks...the impossible way... *Apology for my poor writing, English not my first language..

I saw so many of these missing videos, that I actually looked up the average speed of a six year old walking in a straight line. It comes out to between 2 and 3 miles per hour. Twelve miles would take about 20 hours or so at walking speed without too many obstacles. Twenty hours is very fast on the plains, but not impossible. If this were the mountains, it would be tough. Regarding the berry picker woman...maybe "foul play" was involved in a sense. Maybe she slipped off for a quick shag with a local dude and when the 2000 people showed up to look for her, she had to hide in her brother's barn for a few days to create a cover story for the press, family and friends. It makes more sense than her "story" does.
@ironwolf56
@ironwolf56 Жыл бұрын
The Berry Picker one did sound like a "she's staying with family" type excuse (the euphemism they used to use for teen pregnancies they hushed up) just in a different form. It's 1953; probably the reason even the newspaper seemed to treat it like no big deal after she was found was that sense of "we don't discuss these things in polite society but we have a good idea what really happened" attitude of the time.

It was more than a few days though, it was over a month. Why would she hide out for weeks, when all she would have had to do is wander out the woods or bushes and say she'd become confused and got lost but heard people and came towards the sound or something. Bit extreme to hide in a wood shed for that long! As far as a secret pregnancy goes, that's more feasible. Although it seems like an odd time to go away. Wouldn't it be likely for her to leave in the early hours when her family is asleep, and to take a bag? Possible though. There's just too little information unfortunately.

@@Himni On September 8, 1974 a dare devil stuntman who went by the name Evel Knievel used a rocket in an attempt to jump from one side of the Snake River Canyon to the other. He didn't make it. He released his emergency parachute early and he floated harmlessly down to the bottom of the canyon and landed on the bank and was rescued safely by a boat. That's what I was referring to in a satirical way. I didn't mean to imply that the river landed on the lady. If you Google Evel Knievel you can find all the information. I keep forgetting not everyone is as old as me and have never heard of Evel Knievel. But he was a big deal back in the 60's and 70's.

Over and over again in these cases children are found alive far outside the search parameters. I really think they need to expand the search area for children and look for them further out. It’s adults underestimating the ability of small children when they typically have more energy and move faster than their adult counterparts.

I disagree. A girl her age would never have the endurance to make such a trek in under a day. As a very athletic male, at age 18, I rode a bike to the next town in Southern Illinois looking for an Major League Baseball fitted hat. I did not know when I set out that it was 11 miles each way, along a major interstate. I did the 11 miles each way and didn't find any hats but found a cool music CD. I was so tired, I literally passed out upon arriving in my dorm room. I was in such good shape that, at 5-11 in height, I absolutely stuffed (blocked his shot) a 6-5, full-ride transfer student on Eastern Illinois University's basketball team, and he shook my hand afterwards and told me "White men CAN jump". I was also left stranded by a "friend" in a town and had to walk 10 miles home. I did the walk in 4-4.5 hours. Not only was I physically barely able to make it, I had pretty bad blisters on my feet and I had no car at the time and was VERY acclimated to doing walks that only trained marathon athletes can handle. Having done both of these journeys tells me that given the scenario she went through (assuming all events are being reported accurately, and that is not a dig at the content creator), I do not believe for one second this girl could make this distance in under 24 hours. I'm not saying how to explain this, but I am not buying that this is even remotely possible because I have done these distances and it tested me not only physically, but mentally as I had to literally FORCE myself to keep going.

When i was her age, my dad and i regularly (2-4 times a week) would hike 4-6 miles in about 2 hours. The trails were very hilly, and while it was exhausting, i could easily still bike for miles after. I easily think if she got destracted chasing the dogs and playing she could go 12 miles and not really how tired she was till she stopped moving.

I had to walk twenty miles in about ten hours when I was 9 when we broke down on a hunting trip, mostly old logging trails with some paved areas. By the end I was exhausted, dehydrated, my everything was sore and my feet had serious blisters. If camp was another ten miles, I could have kept going. My grandad and his friend in their late 50s were in much worse shape and didn't really recover for a month. If your mindset is, "I don't want to sleep in the scary woods tonight", you'll keep going. For most kids, that's a worst case scenario, so they'll keep going. My uncle got lost in that same area while on his first hunting trip around twelve years old. He dropped his rifle and ran in a panic essentially all night and made it about seven miles. With his energy, he could have made thirty if he'd gone in a straight line.

It is always extremely disturbing when small children go missing, but thankfully in the first account she was found again unharmed. The tragic story of Joan, who was later found drowned, was however less happy. Actually, what proof was there apart from her husband's testimony that the couple had even arrived home together? I suppose that the husband was interviewed intensely by the police, but Joan's alleged disappearance within minutes of arriving home and the discovery that she had "disappeared" without trace seems extremely suspicious.

For sure I can see where you're coming from, however, in my studies of the past I've found the opposite - that is, the more scandalous the story, the better. Not a single citizen would have tried protecting her but rather would have hopped on the, "She's just a hussy!" Bandwagon. Also, her story is one of many, MANY stories of the same. Someone goes missing and is found in area close by or already searched and I've found that they are typically "missing" for 7, 10, sometimes upwards of 21 days without anyone in law enforcement, or the search and rescue team, OR THE MEDIA, taking the time to prod some answers about exactly what they were doing in the time period leading up to being found. In the rare instance that a child or someone lost does mention anything about their experience, they say some bizarre and creepy things that all pretty much match other fellow missing people's of their kind have said as well but they immediately get shut down and told to shut up

@@amyroselarcinese8205 Just because someone claims something bizarre happens is not a reason to believe them. In my 30 plus years in uniform I have found the more bizarre the story the more likely the larger media outlets will run it. I stand by the claim that small town papers in the 50's would have been less likely to pursue the cheating or running around angle unless it was attached to something bigger. In which case the larger media outlets would pile on. Nobody in 1953 would have printed that someone was a hussy. In fact the only time you will read and hear baseless and fake news today is only when the media is pushing their political and social agenda. Which means one side will always get the blame while the other side is given preferential and positive treatment.

The Idaho case… that is sooo suspicious. Thanks for covering it Adam. I did some digging… legal ties in that community are still pretty strong in that family. Found an article pointing to her COD as asphyxiation due to drowning (believe it was the Boise Medical Examiner). Odd.

No kidding. Especially being that her husband was a prosecutor and, although the idea of foul play is mentioned, it's not implied that the husband was involved or under any suspicion at all. I'm sure 1950s Idaho was a good ole boys club. Whenever I hear about no tracks found, no clues at all, no scent trails from multiple different dogs I think that a large percentage are not mysterious at all. If it's on a hike or camping the person was probably killed elsewhere and the family member, spouse or friend just lied. The prosecutor probably smothered his wife and tossed her in a river. That or aliens working with bigfoot

Murdered in the home. Hid the body. Took part in the search. Perfect alibi. Oh she went for a walk....anyone check who he was fooling around with? Dumped her body from the freezer into the water. Hence so little decomposition. Who and how much debt was he in and to whom? Blackmail she found out about? Gambling debts? Why did she have to go bye bye huh? Incest cover up? Very dirty day.

The reason Jeanette was playing outside because that's where kids play when they live on a farm/ranch, especially in 1948. It wasn't unusual. Kids on farms today still play outside and are often given a lot more freedom than their city counterparts. I doubt she walked those 12 miles in that length of time. Sounds more like she was abducted by someone, the dogs bribed to let a stranger come close. Joan being an 'expert swimmer' dos not mean you won't drown, especially after drinking. This is from 1953, so whose to say there were no footprints? Or her husband killed her by drowning. I'm betting on the husband. Theresa Hoffman was most likely kidnapped, drugged and held for the time she was missing. Drugs would easily account for her memory loss. This one and the first one - no one asked if they had been raped. There were no rape kits in the fifties. No one would would ever bring it up.

You're probably more likely to be killed by someone in a city(as there are far more people), but you are probably in far more danger from the few wierdos who live in yhe woods. In the city you can probably find help or get away to a place with people. In the back country, you are pretty much screwed if you catch the eye of someone. No help. Maybe never see them coming and they probably know the area better than you.

The 1st disappearance of the young girl and the distance she travel during the 20 hours until found 12 miles away isn't impossible. Young children have traveled that far and further in the past. The prairie land is mostly flat and scrub and tree free. Her pets probably kept her warm and kept predators away. Maybe she saw an animal, lizard, dragonfly, or butterfly 🦋 and excitedly gave chase. Depending on the time of year Temps and hours of daylight can vary greatly. The second story about the District attorney and his young wife I find concerning. People witnessed her upset at her husband at the club then saw her get into the car with him where her husband said he then drove them both home. The search and even investigation of potential foul ply focused on the fact that couldn't be proven. That it was her husband's word and his alone that they both arrived alive and well at the house. The only witness that were credible only stated the saw her seemingly upset or displeased potentially at her husband. They also witnessed them both enter their car and drive away in the direction of where they lived. No one came forward stating they saw them together while driving, nor did any other rural neighbors or those people that lived along some part of thier route to their rural home see either or both 9f them drive past. That would seem to make her husband the last person to see her. Maybe she discovered an affair, secret, or that her husband was corrupt and an unplanned murder occurred. Perhaps they had been receiving threats from those or the family or acquaintances of people that he successfully prosecuted,or who tried to bribe him and he refused, or had witnessed corruption in his department or city government, and that night they intercepted him and took his wife ( eye for an eye or good old boy justice. What if he did for whatever reason hire someone to kidnap and or kill his wife on the stretch of road that he knew would be witness free that night at that time? To me foul play of some sort occurred and she never made it to her home alive or dead that night. That seems more logical or probable than amnesia, drowning, suicide, or wandering away and becoming lost without any trace. What's that quote 🤔? Something like "the simplest explanation is usually the the correct explanation". This is all just my personal opinion or instinct not at all fact. Lastly Joan could have also been having an affair, saw the person she was or had an affair with at the club, her husband may have notice she all of a sudden became upset and after she rushed to the door to leave he followed, acted calm as they got into the car, then after they drove far enough away from prying eyes into a Lilly witness free area, confronted her in the car, and kind her in a crime of passion.

Because they are killed elsewhere, wait out the search, then bring the body back and dump it knowing it's already been searched. So it's a finger in the eye to the searchers from the very twisted murderer..ha ha! I got away with it, you didn't catch me. See how I played you all? Very, very evil. Cold as ice. Very very dangerous. Usually? Family.

With some of this disappearances we should test the sound. For example in the berry picking ones, someone stand near the berry bushes and someone stand in the woods a little. See if the sound carries or not. As People think if it was so quick why can’t they hear you calling!? If you could test if voices can be heard still from point of separation or how far it takes to no longer hear calls. That would put some things to bed like if they were taken and couldn’t hear or if it’s a normal thing that happens with sound anyway!

My thoughts: Story 1, the behaviour of the other dog who returned home and seemed too scared to leave the house again was also strange. Story 2, there was no other prints by the woman's own prints, it seems close to the ridge. I wonder if that was too treacherous or have any snakes? story 3, Suspiciously weird, and the missing woman's husband was the last to see her. Story 4, this was just full of holes and made no sense.

As someone who grew up not far from the 2nd story, and spent his childhood the old fashioned way exploring as much as I could by foot with my dogs for hours or days on end, I'll say I've seen some really weird things up here. The normal animals are really hard to notice if you're not paying attention too, I've walked right up on basically everything in Colorado due to my habit of walking off trail alone and finding water sources or other featurws not on most maps. I know it's going to be the death of me one day and I'll be a story on here, but it's so cool to sneak up on apex predators and watch them go about their day from a short distance away. I do make mistakes like an adult black bear I didn't see recently until I was maybe 30ft away and saw his round ears perk up, and a bit later that same day a momma bear and 2 cubs tried to come up to me as I ate lunch a mile or 2 away. I shoot cameras not guns, and enjoy animals, but I will never feed or befriend past chatting with animals to let them know I'm not a threat by making obvious noise in talking to keep them calm.
