Post covid camping/4wd parts have exploded to unrealistic prices, my opinion it's price gouging

I have the Mesa topper on my truck and like it very much. I drove to California from Colorado to pick it up last summer. Topo toppers offer the best bang for buck as far as topper campers go. I wish the 4 inch pad was available when I bought mine. I've added solar and insulation to the interior for the extra comfort. The only thing different I would ask for is a double or single sideways opening door like those seen on commercial work trucks. It would make such a difference.

This looks to be a very nicely designed (the original truck mirrors work with the expanded camper shell) and beautifully constructed camper offering good accommodation for its size. I wish them every success with their lovely camper. Thank you for featuring this excellent camper.

Looks like Topo Toppers looked at a top competitor and is changing their Tune. They have made good campers in the past but I bet a new platform design like this will need to be Tuned over time. I sure wonder if they liked what they saw from the premium camper company Tune Outdoors.
@socalexpeditions7 сағат бұрын
Until you look at the complaints on the Tune. New company working out the kinks, just like Lone Peak. Bolted together extrusions isn’t the best setup for a camper.

Extra wide truck top campers, so hot right now! lol. It’s fun to see each manufacturer have a different take on the same idea. Looks like Topo Toppers picked a nice middle ground with some added width while not sticking out too far. These would be somewhat limiting in Oregon’s forest but great for families or extended trips.

It is a neat engineering project. It costs as much as my first teardrop camper that had water, heat, kitchen………… If I could afford to dedicate a rig to just travel, overlanding, camping, I could see it as part of a whole package. It would be an even neater engineering project if they could design the roof to close down (wedge) at one or better yet two sides as an immediate high wind response.

Some travel trailers have frames breaking. Most travel trailers fall apart especially , when off road. Off road, if i can avoid pulling a trailer around,i will. Thats why.- danny
@harrymills27702 ай бұрын
Definitely true. Travel trailers with frames breaking aren't built for the roads they're on, much less anything resembling off-road. They're built for paved roads, not bumpy dirt roads or off-road. But I'm pretty happy with my off-road mini-camper. I can set up a very plush camp with the extra half-ton of weight and the extra 192 cubic feet of covered cargo room, excluding anything I have on the cargo rack, and I can crawl into bed without any setup, whenever I want. More gear, instant bed, not stressing my pickup too much. An added benefit is my day trips away from camp are in an unloaded pickup, so it's better fuel efficiency and more off-road capability, not that I'm looking to do anything hard-core. The main advantage to getting the off-road camper is its suspension, wheels, and tires, that make mincemeat of any dirt road, and it will not shake/fall apart like your standard, cheap, American-made recreational trailers. Anywhere I can drag it in 2-wheel-drive will be something it can handle, and I don't have to worry much about beating it up on rough roads. I'm not saying this because I'm a big-time off-roader. Just that most of those trailers with their frames getting bent are just on rough roads, and not even really trying to off-road.

@@harrymills2770what trailer are you using?
@harrymills27706 күн бұрын
@@RonSpilker Runaway Venturist. Pretty much the cheapest, no-frills, off-road mini-campers going. The money is in the chassis, wheels and tires, off-road suspension, and the composite body. Basically an empty box with an air-conditioner, made for Floridians in Florida, but shipped to various distributors around the country. The closest dealer to Idaho was all the way down in Arizona, so it got its shakedown tour when I hauled it north. Last I checked, it was around $10,000 brand-new, with no options. I got a few of the options, like electric brakes, roof rack, and custom running lights. It ran me around $12,000 when all was said and done. It's way over-built for its weight, but it'll go anywhere I've got the guts to take my pickup, and it's an easy pull for my Tacoma, which is rated to 7500 lbs, since it only weighs 1000 lbs empty, and I'll never max it out its 1000 lbs of cargo capacity.

@garretlewis41033 ай бұрын
I think it is a pretty decent new camper. If you live on the east coast, you can cross ToPo off the list unless you are willing to drive across country. I get it, but it is too bad.
@bradgradert3 ай бұрын
I asked Topo Topper if they were interested in an Ambassador program but unfortunately they are not. I think there is a niche of customers who are hunters and fisherman in the Midwest that would buy their product. They an many other Overland camper manufacturers are on the west coast and their niche of customers are Tacoma owners that travel through National Parks. I would be happy to help promote their product to a different type of customer base.

@softroadingthewest5 күн бұрын
It's definitely not the most budget way to camp, but it's also FAR from the most expensive...significantly less than a slide-in truck camper for example. This one is very competitively priced compared to other similar pop-up shells. In fact, the total price for my Topo Toppers camper _after_ the extra cost of my optional add-ons came out lower than the base price for some other similar pop-up campers. I spent several hours in their shop last year observing their whole build process and it requires a LOT of (USA) man-hours, and is built entirely of formed 1/8" aluminum (unlike other campers which have composite panels attached to bolted-together frameworks of aluminum extrusion)...in fact when I saw how they make these, I was surprised by how competitive they've been able to remain. Ultimately you're not wrong...regardless of what justifies the price, it remains a lot of money, but it terms of spacious, comfortable truck campers you can walk around in, it also remains one of the least expensive options. Thanks for watching!
