I’m 56 just now learning about IEM’s and gear and came across your reviews. First thank you so much for mentioning the music suggestions such as Macy Gray album. It may sound funny to some but I didn’t even know this type of great musical compositions even existed anymore. I literally cried listening to the detail and quality…… and don’t laugh… I’m listening on an iPhone with wired Apple earbuds. I can’t wait to purchase a nice step up IEMs, DAC’s etc and really open up more fun listening. PLEASE keep suggesting more great tracks, artists and albums for us newbies!!! Thank you so much!

Excellent review, mate! I've had the E70 Velvet for several weeks, paired with my Adam Audio A7V monitors and Sub8 subwoofer for my PC audio. Games, music, streaming video all sound great. I hear a lot of subtle details that I never knew were there with previous audio setups. It's nice to see AKM back in the game after that big fire almost shut them down, in 2021.

Great review of E70V dac. FYI: Gustard A26 (same chip) is great - a bit too punchy for me. E70 Velvet is less punchy and I like it more but A26 is a bit more resolving with bigger stage. Overall A26 is a little better (both are great). PS If you are hesitating price-wise - just get E70 Velvet, you will love it.

I loved your description of the cymbals on the Jazz at the Pawn Shop album. Sounds like you were a drummer in a past life? I also love that album and I use it to test out new gear or to ensure my speakers are placed correctly after they get moved around during cleaning. The ambient sounds of the patrons in that little bar and the musicians moving around and fiddling with their instruments between tracks is just so good that it sounds like you're really there sitting at a table in the audience if everything is setup properly.

I bought E70 Ess a couple of days back. my amp is A90 discrete. Before i bought E70, i connected A90D to my ipad using 3.5mm to RCA cable. I didn't find any difference when connected to A90D between the ipad's 3.5mm output and E70's output. I feel that Amp makes a lot of difference than a DAC does.

Yeah, the differences, when even distinguishable, are very minor for the most part.

I have now E70 velvet, replacing my Aune X1S. Connected to A90 via XLR and I can hear differences clearly. Of course, this is not a leap in sound quality, but it is not so minor either for me.

I hope by now you figured this out but if not You have to put this dac into fixed out put mode. Meaning no volume adjustments accept full output. If I remember correctly it can only be accessed by powering off the unit in the back pushing in the volume knob and holding it while you power it back up. Then go through options. The instruction manual can tell you which one it is. If your not using BT you should turn it off . In the same area as you in. Hope that helps.

Hi, have you tried using the E70 as DAC + preamp? Just wondering how good is the E70 's preamp section. I would like to get the E70 Velvet and PA7 combo. Unfortunately the PA7 does not come with a remote control, so I have to use the E70 as a preamp if I want remote control capability. Thanks

From what I can tell from the Topping marketing material, there is an output mode for using the XLR and RCA outputs at the same time. If your subwoofer has a built-in crossover nob (or fancy phone app), then I'm betting it will work just fine setting it up the way you described.

E30 does more than human hearing can appreciate. Whether it's mp3 or FLAC I wouldn't think that's an important consideration. If the DAC sounds better (big if past $100) then it will sound better on mp3 as well.
