Yo Sam, I’m going to give you a history lesson in breakin Holmes. Okay, it’s the 1970’s and picture every neighborhood had walls around them. Now inside of those walls was your neighborhood/your Turf and inside of your turf you were Kings, you were the guardians of your turf and when you walked through your hood you walked with style bro. You let everyone know how freaking cool you were. Now those gangs started breakin and brought all of that swag and style to the floor. You had a crew from Sunset park who went from the Filthy Mad Dogs (FMD’s )to the Floor Master Dancers ya dig.…. But what today’s guys are kinda missing is that hardness and style that you get when you come from a rough and tough neighborhood. Now I will say it’s because of breakin is how it was lost. Breakin knocked those walls down and crews were going from Brooklyn to the Bronx and they no longer had to worry about having other crews rolling up on em for being on there turf. So that was a huge thing to happen because it allowed cultures to see each other and realize how similar they were to each other. Attitude, come hard but you gotta look cool doing it otherwise it looks practiced. Yo I dig what your doing and keep doing what you do bro, much respect. Smooth from Brooklyn out😮😮😂😂

Continued. So in Southern California 20 years later in the 1990's there was no internet. It was the era gangster rap was big because gang violence was exploding in Los Angeles at the time. To escape trouble and take a different path many turned to break dancing. Never heard the word bboy at the time. But I heard of every 3 letter gang, tagger crew, piecing crew, and party crew in LA. If your lucky you would see 1 or 2 break dancers here and there dressed with baggy clothes looking like tag bangers. There was a sain, if your a break dancer in that era, you hung around gang members & that was true. Alot of the "toprocks" i seen where from gangster ass fools that had that swag. If you got to dangerous house or flyer parties you would see people doing hydraulic hopping turtles, windmills, and etc. Even bboy Dyzee said, if u were a bboy in the 90's that means you seen some sheit. Then you would talk about it with your friends & only had word of mouth. It was all about powermoves back then evident by the Best of the Best competition in 1999. Fast forward 30 years to 2024, you don't need to be around gang members to be a breaker. No more word of mouth. Google search: Predators crew fast windmill to see who got the fastest windmills in the world. If breaking was started by gang members in the 1970's, all I can attest to is in Los Angeles the 1990's breakers had close ties with gang members, but not in 2024. The authentic swag you talk about is not there because they never lived that life in 2024, it's a different era where you don't have to bang. They can only emulate the vibe of " bboy swag". The same goes for these groups in Japan that dress like 1990's surenos who cosplay the crip walk on social media. I think if your a 2024 bboy, you should understand the gang history of breakin & re-invent it to reflect your experiences as it pertains to your life experiences. I think bboys who dress like 1990's gangsters who are ages 18-25 with beanies need to refrain from that, respectfully. I heard Mr. Wiggles from Rocksteady used to walk around strapped reppin his 3 letter hood in NY back in the days. Imo that's where his permanent mean mug and swag came from like he seen some sheit. Anyways. Let's see what the next 20 years brings. Exciting times we live in !

@ very cool bro and yes absolutely the 90’s had it’s own. Hip hop hit a cold spot late eighties early to mid nineties cause house music became popular along with techno plus you had the original Bboy’s touring Europe and bringing it overseas so the states hit a kinda dead spot. Plus a lot of people were cleaning themselves up from the cocaine era so breakin really hit a low spot. I could be mistaken but mid nineties is when the guys from Europe challenged the US and it sparked a resurgence here in the states and the rest as the say is history. Hey I just wish that I didn’t stop cause I would have loved to be with these guys today killin it. So much exposure always a battle to go to. They are lucky.😂😂😂 yo anyone else out there wanna share your story put down in the comments..
