I am so grateful for your thoughts on "The Historian" because I DNF'd it and thought I just wasn't getting it. So many people raved about it and I love DA but that book just missed every mark for me.

In Memoriam was my top book of 2023. Just an incredible piece of writing.

🐝 The Historian is on my TBR because both my sisters enjoyed it lol. I'm curious how I'll feel about.

Well you have completely sold me on In Memoriam as I’ve been sitting on the fence about it for a while. 😊 although I’m a bit sad that The Historian didn’t work for you.

🐝 omg i’m so glad someone else disliked the historian as much as i did! i should have loved it going by the description but my god it was a drag. i had it on audible at 2x speed and it was still so slow 😩 and boring. i listened to the cloisters straight after and that was much an improvement. i might have to pick up in memorium, it sounds really good ❤

Could you do a try a chapter for some of the TBR vets? It might help weed out some that you’re no longer into ☺️

I read Seventeen after you talked about it in your TBR I believe and I was crushed that book is so important when you think about how boys arent "victimised" in the same way. Just to have such a raw look into a very dysfunctional and toxic relationship was very powerful 🐝

I'm so sorry that European Travels disappointed you. I had the same experience - loved the 1st one, struggled with the 2nd - but never managed to push through. I might wait until I hear your reaction to the 3rd before deciding if I'm going to bother trying to finish the 2nd.

100% agree about European Travel. I kept thinking “Edit! Edit!!” The third one is a bit more focused, thank goodness. I hope you enjoy that one!! 🐝

I'm so happy that you liked In Memoriam, I've been waiting for you to talk about it. This was one of my favourite books of last year, maybe my number 1. I read it at a time when I was very, uh, emotionally open, and I cried through sooo much of it. I was so positively surprised that the queer story isn't tragic, and how on the other hand the war story is just absolutely relentless.

🐝 European Travel was my favourite of that series (although I agree there was too much detail), so I'll be really interested to hear what you think of the third one, which I had serious problems with.

I'm so relieved to hear In Memoriam isn't just queer tragedy!! I want to read it but I'd been putting it off because I was afraid it was going to destroy my heart. definitely bumping it up my tbr!

Did you ever read My Dark Vanessa? I know you were saying you had it but it is such a heavy book that you were holding off, which is totally understandable. I gave it 5/5. It was so important. I highly highly recommend it. The ending was very well done imo. A lot of people didn't like the ending but I felt it was realistic. 🌺🐝

Albany California where Accountable takes place is less than 2 hours from me! My high school had a really similar thing where a group of girls made a "Burn Book" Instagram page where they posted things about people's looks/ behaviors/personalities with the intent of mocking them and tearing them down. I didn't have Instagram at the time so I never saw it personally but I remember it being a really big deal when it finally was taken down because a lot of people got suspended.

I really enjoyed the Historian but I must have read it about 20 years ago when I living in my relatively small home town. At that point, I hadn't read that widely (small town, small library). So I wonder what I would think of it now given I have read so many different books etc

🐝Am I terrible for being pleased that you've now suffered through that longass book, too? 😂 I think I'll still read the final book but yeah. Over 800 pages?? Please fire her editor.

When I saw you were reading The Historian I grimaced so hard, it is one of the worst books I ever struggled through and the ending is so frustratingly bad, never understood the hype.

Beautiful neckless. I have a major depressive disorder. I was born with this disorder and it has been a challenge. I think some of my life purpose is to show people rising to the challenge of dealing with this disorder has been worth it for me. Thank you Lianne.🩷💚💜Sending love to you and Harry.
