I'm liking the 154CM blade steel, the red-lined G10 handles, and some of the best jimping in the business on this TOPS Rapid Strike. You have one? What do you like most about it?
@TheKnifeJunkie
@TheKnifeJunkie 4 жыл бұрын
@Noah Wells I wouldn't let large hands stop you from getting the Rapid Strike, have you seen the man who designed it? Leo Espinoza designed this knife (and most of TOPS' stuff) and he is a pretty big dude. Maybe if you have weirdly long thumbs, you'd opt for the single-edge version, but other than that, do yourself a favor and give this sucker a try!

I love this blade and everything about it. Its a very nice blade. sturdy sharp able to preform multiple tasks. Just a tad bit slender and would love to see the same thing just a bit thicker or a bit larger in the handle/blade overall. 154 is creat though. I really have no issues. Just wish it was a bit more comfortable for larger hands.

@Noah Wells Not for smaller knives that won't be used all the time but still need to have a good edge on them. In my opinion, carbon steel is good for bigger blades and smaller but (much) cheaper blades that still need to perform well. Having a small combat focused blade made in carbon steel doesn't really benefit from the advantages, but is degraded by its disadvantages. Carbon steel corrodes much more easily, meaning the edge rusts away and the blade is a pain in the ass to maintain if it gets wet or sits in a humid area. Stainless steel would provide plenty of strength for most utility tasks and pretty much all combat tasks.
@TheKnifeJunkie
@TheKnifeJunkie 4 жыл бұрын
@Noah Wells Carbon steel is definitely better for camp and high-impact knives due to its toughness. Most TOPS knives are 1095 for this reason. But for smaller, self-defense oriented knives which are meant to be worn for long periods of time, close to the body, TOPS opts for stainless (usually 154CM) to keep the blade as corrosion-free as possible.

I agree!!!. I work outside in a Hot environment and wore my TOPS JAC-IRAQ and in about 4 days it was a completely rusty mess. I wore it on my belt, and wasn't 2 happy about this.. Cleaned it with some Rem.oil and tuf cloth but come on TOPS love your blades but ditch the 1095 already!!!!. Now i wear the Spyderco Jumpmaster H-1 with notta problem.. No rust!!. I really don't understand the 1095 love affair???😳😳😳👍👌DAVE L.
@phillipnunya6793

@@oscarlamonte3148 I understand why they like it. It is cheap and easy to work with. For their prices though, they should only be using 1095 on big beater knives. Stainless should be used on knives made for stabbing people instead of trees.

questions 1) I rank the tops lions toothpick to be the best fighting knife I've ever owned. While I prefer a double-edged karambit and think a fixed Emerson Karambit would be overall better, or the P'kal-Reverse Karambit on Karambit(dot)com that comes in @ 2.4 oz (I believe ) and 154 cm steel. I have a Masalong "ripoff" of that design and my holy hell it's good, but overly heavy @ 6+oz 2) Shcrade Double Edged Karambit you reveiewed not too long ago...Would you take that over the Lions toothpick as carry knife to go with a carry run or just in-general as a combat knife, over this? 3) Have you tried to Street Scalpel 2? It is, imo the best little carry/fighting knife, fixed, concealable, that I've ever used, EVER. even over my beloved karambits or Ka Bar USMC short. This thing is brutal, hard to see, fast as hell, perfectly balanced, crazy-light, and my only beef is this: 4) Do you know of any clips I can get to attatch to sheaths like the Tops Street Scalpel that are like the clips they have on the Lions toothpick, the backbite, rapid strike etc? 5) Have you tried the Backbite? That's the 3rd tops knife I own and outside of huge difficulties sharpening it, i find the warrencliffe/chisel combo mixed with the p'kal style "backbite" feature to be fantastic, it's a C. Despins design I believe 6) Would you be willing to feature the Street Scalpel 2? If you can't get one I would be okay with sending you mine to review :) My current EDC is either the Lions Toothpick with my Full-Size SIG 1911 Scorpion, they have quite the color coordination going on, and just seem to belong together. Both are sexy, sleek, highly damaging weapons that are top-tier More regularly is the Street Scalpel 2.0 with the Colt M1991A1 Compact .45 acp 1911, which is my favorite compact pistol I've operated with even surpassing guns like the HK P30SK, M&P Shield Performance Center, Walter PPK (which im a huge nut , and it's a classic, highly reliable pistol. though the Walter PPk .22 is one of the best .22 pistols ever, and great in .380 or 9mm, or, I think, .32) . The scalpel and the M1991A1 just go together, make you feel like an American James Bond! hehe

I like to compare the Tops rapid de strike to the SPYDERCO STREET BOWIE by Perrin. People laugh at me but the Street bowie is so light i carry it as a fast reaction neck knife.. I prefer a larger BLADE .. Out of experience they obviously and inherently have the reach advantage.. I also compare it to CRKT CLEVER GIRL which i also carry as a necker.. I like all these knives large handles to be 2inches above my belt line for lightening fast deployment. Try it a see what you think. I just purchased the TOPS and really agree with many of your defensive POINTS !! Pun intended👌👍💥THANKS.. Let me know what you think.. Dave Leege.

@TheKnifeJunkie 3 жыл бұрын
I like the idea of large neck knives, but the Street Bowie or Clever Girl are more than way too big for neck carry for me for a couple of reasons: 1. I think the extra weight would bother me, 2. I sit a lot of the day large knife on my chest/stomach might really annoy me. That said, I will give it a try with my Seal Pup.

@TheKnifeJunkie
@TheKnifeJunkie 4 жыл бұрын
My favorite means of carry is IWB with a snapping strap, they make them out of rubber or leather and I have bought them over the years from either knife maker supply retailers, gun shops or Amazon. Though you loose some of the rigidity, you can create the same setup with a loop of paracord. Good luck and let me know what you settle in to.

Do you train with it? Good to practice sheathing and unsheathing it, including something I do when training others is a butter knife or a rubber knife, something dull and light, you practice your draw and stick'n'move and a very select combnation of deflection techniques that are meant as last resort. I practiced, studied, and am teaching American Arwology, Sayat, Silat, (and due to back injuries im limited on my extensive grapple technique to be hands-on so I gotta be the Micky to your Rocky! No im not THAT old, yet. Emerson Knife Boxing is ahuge boon to rounding out your skillset. I cannot recommend checking it out enough or if you ask ill happily provide some videos! Joe Cannabyte I do practice with my current edc. It’s a Benchmade SOCP. I got the package deal with the training style dagger and the real one. It’s basically a small thin dagger but made for close quarters. I practice drawing it and attacking from various angles. I also practice my CCW draw with the dagger in My left hand. It’s so flat that you can wield your concealed firearm with it.

Pro tip: Never fight with a knife involved, weather it's yours or someone elses, or maybe the other person pulls one out themself: Better just run and be save You will just get horrible injuries which may very well leave you crippled or dead. Never self defend with a knife when you like to keep living, I know the thought might souit you, but the reality is very messed up and you will regret it if you come out living. Knife fighting is for war.

@SSstormwalker1
@SSstormwalker1 3 жыл бұрын
Literally just seconds after i wrote this i cut my pointer finger in the middle inside section (not deep, I'm good), with the bottom edge testing a thrust, i kinda fumbled and wasn't holding tightly. But idk, i think it looks really cool, but the knife needs more of a guard to be safe, a real thrusting motion might take your fingers or dig in the print of your thumb with the top sharpened. The only way i see this as being safe is for slashing motions, and I still would want my thumb high up on the top jumping for stability, for a top sharpened version that is playing with fire. I've lost a lot of confidence just now, in me and the design... :'(
