Yes I think I can do a Part 3, will start looking at it. Some series I just let die on the vine because of low view numbers. 75K views means lots of interest and I complete series that get that.

Depends on the blade and use. Usually 1095 for hard thumping in the woods. It's affordable, tough. For blades like this, the 154CM and AUS8 are favorites. 8CR13Mov good too for stainless camp knife.
@nutnfancy12 жыл бұрын
They are more pricey for equivalent products, especially as I mentioned the 1095 steel. For US made stuff, there are on par however. Thanks for the comment!

The more a knife bears resemblance to a kitchen knife the more real world useful it usually is. I developed an aversion to "tactical-style" blades which often are just showpieces and better serve as a paperweight.

Just got this knife recently and it has quickly became my favorite blade. It can be used in battle or the kitchen. Love it.

Another advantage of the holes in the grip and through the tang is that they can be used as a bearing block/hand hold for starting a fire using a bow drill. You'd just need to taper-fit and lubricate the top of the drill.

I love the old school, Trade knife handle and blade configuration- pure utility. I wonder how the nicely designed 154cm Sk-5 Blackbird would compare, (at $105.) i love the SK5's Kephart profile, but TOPS build quality is far better than Ontario's. I wish they'd make this in 1095, also!

Makes this hard to decide what blade to get with so many options. I don't have any fixed blade knives, so if I spend no more than 150 .00 what do i get for tactical survival all around blade within this category of blades?

Looks like a no-brainer on a win for this knife. Full tang, nice handle. Simple blade. Love it, I'm only a minute into the video. I think the only thing I'd worry about with is the rivets holding the handle on failing.

That is an awesome knife and I wish I could get one but the TOPS stuff is just too expensive vs. other knives in the same range (TOPS, are you listening?). Thanks for the vid man! Excellent as ALWAYS.

Also, Nutn, the Kershaw Camp 10 is an interesting looking blade for the money. Pricing is $64.95 on the kershaw site. It says carbon steel, but not sure of the quality. Just figured I'd throw that one out there in case you haven't seen it. Cheers.

Awesome videos Nutn! Loved seeing this blade briefly on Llama Trek.Between the BOB and the Pasayten Light Traveller which would you recommend as an overall medium sized backpacking blade for camp tasks, some light-medium batoning for kindling, fish gutting/game skinning and overall outdoor utility?

I remain pretty consistent in my likes. Perusing my vids in the playlists will show that I think. I just give a data point is all. A knife has to be aesthetically pleasing to me and useful...and hopefully light (for most POUs). I do not care for fad knives.
@MrOscarSthlm12 жыл бұрын
Hey, I do really like your review. But I don´t get how you can say that it´s you don´t like about it. Because later in the video you mention some important factors: 1. There is no finger guard. 2. The sheet clip will bend or break whit use. 3. No drain hole. 3. Bad jimping 4. Cant remove the scales I do buy the fact that it looks awesome but for survival and tactual I would say it is not as awesome. With does four aspects I do wonder if you stand by your 9.5? Thanks agen for great reviews!

Hey nutn, you said the steel is 1095 but on the blade is says 154cm
@nutnfancy12 жыл бұрын
Fair enough but I'm just talking about my preferences here and how I perceive the majority of their blades. For sure they connect to lots of guys. I could get them, review them, sell 1000s for them but I the review would suck because I wouldn't be into them. I just stay genuine.
@CommonCentsOutdoorsman12 жыл бұрын
Yup... I don't like the weird stuff either such as odd shapes and ornate designs. I like them simple, useful, and high value. Looking forward to the "Grunt" review... now that's my kind of knife!
@amosjsoma12 жыл бұрын
Your gear reviews are the best on the web and I know you value accuracy in your reviews. At 4:32 into the review you refer to the blade as powder coated. Powder coating describes a method of application rather than a coating. Most coatings you can name, porcelain, epoxy, polyester, lacquer, enamel, Teflon, etc., can all be applied either dry (powder coating) or wet (paint). Unfortunately, most reviewers refer to a knife coating as a "powder coat." Just thought you'd like to know.

I love that design, it's my chosen one for camp/cooking in the field. I do not have that particular TOPS blade, but I do have a cryo 154cm which is very similar that I got from Texasknife(dot)com for around $15 -I had to build it myself, but the blade came finished, treated and blasted. With the $180+ price point, I will just have to take your word, and rely upon the satisfaction in knowing you can do the pricing for me. ;)

Looks like a great knife, however, with a price of $180, or even $130, it's out of my price range, but I'm not a collector, I'm a user. I might pay that kind of price for an ESEE blade (American made & great sheaths) but only because of the transferable lifetime warranty. An Ontario RAT-5 would be a great American made alternative for less than $100. But as a user, for thumping around, general campknife or dayhiking you can't beat the value of a ColdSteel SRK in AUS8a steel.
@eas2612 жыл бұрын
Because the Cold Steel is very collectible, and the value will go up. Never heard of a TOPS knife becoming a "rare" collectible.
