That is incorrect and while I know you're asking for some commie gobbeldy-gook, the demonstration is that plenty of places have massive swaths of fast food and a relatively slim healthy population and 10 of these populations at the top have no special fast food availability either. If you had no other option but 'fast food' you'd still be perfectly capable of being as slim as you want to be. Do not blame corporations for being fat. Blame yourself.

And obesity is a major and growing problem in all western countries, including Canada, Australia and the UK!
@LadyAxe136 жыл бұрын
I agree that we do that to ourselves, but I still think a lot of people get fat because the comfort is an option. If there are NO fast food restaurants, you simply CANNOT get fat, whether you have discipline or not, you know? A lot of people are lazy to cook, so they opt for that accessible comfort of ordering pizza...before they know it, they are fat. Take away the comfort, and even the ill disciplined people will be forced to eat right.
@stevenleahy50886 жыл бұрын
It's not just about fast food. Junk food is readily available in any store. It's about being in a sedentary culture where people get little to no exercise, combined with people who eat constantly, with lots of between-meal eating which wasn't nearly as common in generations past. People honestly in some countries just don't physically move enough, and it's a problem getting worse throughout the west and even in countries like China. Overweight and obesity rates are only separated by a few percentage points in all the major English speaking countries though the stereotype likes to paint Am's as being much worse than everyone else (not really true). It's the basic equation of calories in and calories out. I for one do NOT want the Big State controlling what I eat or have access to.

Most of the countries ranked above us are small South Pacific nations like Samoa, the Cook Islands, and Nauru (1st btw). Kuwait's also above us, the only one that I know isn't in the Oceania region (though I have never heard of some of the countries, so I don't know where they are lol) Essentially out of countries that are major players on a global scale with substantial populations, we're the fattest. Though all the percentages should be took with a massive grain of salt considering BMI is the measurement used. BMI is flawed as hell. It considers a lot of athletes obese because it only takes height and weight into account and muscle weighs more than fat.

Not an attractive diet to someone like myself that sadly doesn't always enjoy 'healthy' food, but we definitely should make more of an effort to adopt more self sustaining diets and stockpiling stuff for winter when things are out of season. I gave this a thumbs down because of the emphasis on "fast food". I agree fast food isn't blameless, but obesity is almost certainly caused by excess fructose (sugar) and excess carbohydrates in a diet causing insulin resistance. Lack of fibre is also a significant contributing factor. Fast food fits into this category, but so too do about 80% of packaged foods - which have a high usage rate on remote islands. Certain populations are more susceptible due to their particular genetic make up. Most likely an evolutionary adaptation to a general lack of carbohydrates in their historical diets. Yes I agree, fast food isn't great, but blaming (just) fast food isn't going to help people solve the problem.

Soul Journey: to each his own. Your mileage may vary. Generally, it's just too damn many calories for how much your body burns off. Everything else is detail. But believe what you want. Just don't try to foist it off on others, as everyone has slightly different needs. Clearly, though, whatever Julia is eating, she's eating a bit too much for how much she burns off. Let it go at that. That's enough to get started with. Look it up online, count calories, caluculate your BMR and eat 500 fewer calories a day than you burn off for one year. Voila, you will lose 52 pounds. About a pound a week. That's it, baby.

I recently completed a healthy and nutrition course. Partly it's more with substitute for a balanced diet, such as binge or snacking, rather than staying with a three meal planner. I was supriced there wasn't anything said on labelling on packaging. Advertising can give false information to the consumer. Such as reduced fat, fat free. It only advise to go on is low fat. It's about eating more fresh fruit and veg, and oily fish. In the UK food guide excludes fizzy drinks, crisps and chocolate. The idea is eat the foods you like to eat, but choose healthy ways to cook or prepare meals. Some are lifestyle choice and a lot with exercise types of social changes. Know your BM score to work out the amount of calories to gain and burn out. The causes are more from the manufacturer and fast food chains they're not doing enough because they're keeping everyone without a clue. So all profit for them!

OK Simon, I know this is a two-year-old video when I saw it but as a morbidly obese American whose body weight has fluctuated in excess of 100 pounds up-and-down as I am on and off diets, I feel I need to add a little Flourish to your video. You raised many excellent points and yes fast food and processed foods are a problem. The simple fact is the human body is designed to store fat easily to survive hard times, only the past few hundred years we have learned to both can and refrigerate food for long-term storage. I could go on all day with the details but simply put our bodies are predisposed for a situation of lean and fat times that no longer exist as a whole. Now food is readily available at any time which is simply something we were not designed for. Do not confuse appetite with hunger. Most of us give into our appetites and that is the root of the problem. I feel I should add that very few people in the world get proper education on nutrition and that in itself is sad.

There many obesity in Middle east like Saudi Arabia ,Egypt, Qatar,UAE, and ku(Weight) from many reasons 1- we eat rice every day by 1-2 times , the rise is healthy but in middle east we But a lot of oil when we cook it . 2- we are love the fast-food restaurant, because it’s delicious and much cheaper than traditional restaurants. 3. We don’t eat enough fruit and vegetables . And in the same time we eat a meat and milk and fast food every day . 4- we eat a lot of meals that it has a lot of calories like kebab, kubba, doner, kabsa ( a rice with meat) , and kushary Note: I,m sorry if there are many mistakes in my writing because I’m from Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦.
@Nathanial-Lee-Vigder6 жыл бұрын
Don't worry about it. At least you are trying. That's the only way to get better at something. Keep learning and practicing. As for your statement, it is understandable. It is hard to grow healthier foods like many fruits and veggies in the middle east, although that is getting slowly fixed by water projects to help improve the situation. So in the future, the lifestyle there can be healthier. Of course, things like that take time, when you've been living like that for so long. Things don't change over night. It just takes time, is all.

@fuzzylon4 жыл бұрын
BMI can give misleading results, but it is quick and easy to calculate for a large number of people as you only need to know the weight and height of the people. Other methods that would be more accurate would take too long and cost too much. There is also the question what level of accuracy are you looking for, anyway. BMI becomes more of a problem when you are considering individuals (particularly those with more muscle), but then it is also more feasible when working with an individual person to use more accurate methods for measuring body fat e.g. with calipers.

When we visited all around the Samoan archipelago, the difference in body size between the territory of American Samoa and those in the independent country of Samoa was noticeable. In Samoa you'd actually see some women that fit the petite Tahitian stereotype and most people walked to their jobs or to market--sometimes miles away. Not so in American Samoa as they drove around in the same big pickup trucks & SUVs like in the US. Also of note was that American Samoans preferred playing US football in which sheer size is an asset, whereas folks in independent Samoa liked Rugby which tends to have better muscle tone & conditioning. So the body size for Samoans (and where they live) gets bigger in this order: Samoa>American Samoa>Hawaii>California.

Where I live in the USA, we're one of the more healthy states, yet on average about 1/6 of the state is still considered 'obese'. You're spot on about the south though, where they really enjoy deep frying stuff, and other options that aren't very conducive to remaining thin.

From plane starch to now fatty and sweet..it surely is the sweetest treat...sooo sweet that it sends you early to your death bed. You talking about obesity in the islands, well no wonder when they reached Australia, NZ, or the Americas, they even become bigger because they will have more access to fats and sugar. NZ is spending millions and millions of dollars in health to treat these pigs. Pacific islanders fight for one last can of corned beef in the supermarket, they rob dairies for ice cream, they kill people if you leave them starving, and they shoplift for corned beef and chocolates. Australia and NZ have created jobs out of these scenarios. Go figure.
