Picking Rob is definitely not a bad pick. Khamzat has shoen to struggle if he can't win in the first round and a half. He got lucky that the fight against Usman and Hilbert was 3. Rob is a dangerous middleweight and is by fsr the toughest opponent Bores has fought to date. Robs chin is a bit suspect, though, so Bores could definitely knock him out and he can definitely wrestle fuck him and finish him in the first or early in the second. If it goes past the 2nd round, Bores will lose. UNLESS, he has fixed his cardio issues. Homie was half dead by the 3rd round against Usman.

People’ say that he barely beat Gilbert and Usman. Let’s debunk that bullshit. Lets me start off by saying he beat both of them fair and square it was not even close to a robbery. Secondly he decided to fight Burns standing because of his high level Jiu Jitsu and still beat him in a kick boxing match. Which if you tell me is remarkable for a guy like Chimaev to have a good stand up since his ground game is unstoppable, you barely see that. With Usman in the first round he literally man handled arguably the best wrestler in that division and arguably one of the best welterweights of all time. The next 2 rounds you can say were close rounds but lets be honest he could have taken him down again if he really wanted too, he just decided to stand with him. And that bullshit excuse of short notice… Usman was the fucking champ for years if anything it was short notice for Chimaev to have to fight a guy like Usman. I FEEL LIKE IF CHIMAEV WANTS TO WIN HE WILL, it’s not up to his opponent. If he comes in every fight and just takes his opponents down who can really beat him? Adesanya ? Strickland ? Duplesis ? Lets be real guys… The division is doomed. I think Burns had the best chance because of his high level Jiu Jitsu but thats a long gone fight so it’s gonna be a long time before someone beats Chimaev if they ever do. The only thing I will say is that he needs to better his gas tank, but I mean the guy cant be perfect either so thats that.

One thing I think guys are overlooking, Volkanovski didn’t really face no power punchers during featherweight reign. A lot of jiu-jitsu/wrestling guys like Ortega, Yair, Chad Mendes. We actually don’t know how Volk would’ve fared with a power puncher like Ilia in his prime. But Max, max has crucially fought Dustin and Conor (2013 version) at this weight. Conor was a scary man back then and he’s giving 19 year old Max pure violence in that first round. I think Dustin and Conor are both more heavier handed than ilia and there is big chance ilia could land the money shot he is looking for and nothing happens. Literally nothing. Thoughts DJ?

Max hasn’t fought anyone who cuts off the ring as well as Topuria. If you go watch a lot of his fights, his opponents let him circle around easily. When max is circling he brings his feet far too close. I believe that if ilia doesn’t knock him out in the first 2 rounds, you will see Max start to fatigue for the first time due to not having tons of experience in directions changing and directions feints against a fighter that knows the proper angling around the cage like Ilia.

I don't think a guy who landed over 400 significant strikes against Kattar and a record full of 5 round matches is likely to gas out. Managing space is definitely going to be a challenge, but Ilia is the one who will have to prove his cardio. He only has one five round fight to date. The longer the fight goes the better Max's chances.

I’ve seen people who can run marathons but gas during sparring. I’ve seen experienced boxers try jiu jitsu and gas in the first round of rolling. Maxs training is all striking so it makes sense that he doesn’t gas throwing 400 strikes. But i don’t think his cardio that involves circling out and taking center cage when an opponent stalking you is going to translate well when you don’t have tons of rounds of overload drilling it and applying it in fights.

the biggest difference is that once ilia shoot take down that changes the whole game, if ilia mix it up he wins. 1 round ilia tests the stand up then from there mixing it up he will get a sub or tko ground and pound
