Don’t get down about hate comments. You have taught me a lot about fishing in northern UK and I appreciate you, don’t listen to jealous/arrogant people who take out their venom and spite onto people the look down to. They are the ones that need mental help.

why did i stumble on this video 3 years later? I use frogs every single topwater season for over a decade now. And i feel the frustrations. Remember that these frogs are designed for bass and not that much for pike, since they use a total different attack pattern than bass would. Over the years i've found out the trick that would help better hookups and it's called patience.. let the pike attack your frog, let it swim away with it.. When you feel traction, hit it as fast as you can in a upwards direction... When you have doubts if the frog is in the right position, you can perform a simple thrust move. Just give your rod a short (certainly not too powerful) yank towards your body and hit it right after that simple move, as fast as you can.. 7 out of 10 times (and yes, it really works) you'll hook the pike properly.. Very cool video! Thanks for sharing :D

Cracking video mate it can be extremely hard but fun frog fishing. Firstly i have caught lots of pike including some big fish using the same lure, Always use the stinger. I would also suggest bending the 2 hooks up slightly as well i have found that this has increased my hook up ratio.. Secondly i always take a lighter and a small knife and after a few takes if the water intake is 2 much i heat the knife up and slightly melt the cracks back together, alternatively carry a second frog. In regards to the strike i have found waiting 2 seconds before striking or when you feel the line pulling an then a really hard hook set. I have found also keeping the drag quite tight and keeping a a god bend in the rod at all times helps you land more fish. Really enjoy your vids mate look forward to seeing more of these vids.

Tell me about it!!! Been frogging for a few weeks now get so many takes, some where the pike just stop in the water and give me every chance to set the hook but I just can't lol, the excitement when they smash into frog this is heart stopping, few times I've nearly shit my pants and dropped rod, this is definitely not a method to use if you have heart problems

As a guy in my 50's now it's really nice to see you trying these frog and rat lures. I love spinning on canals and have always thought that these frog and rat lures were a bit of a gimmick..... how wrong I have been. I will start trying them. Always love watching you fish, my type of fishing! Tight lines my friend and keep the video's coming!

Nice video, I understand you at all, the first time that i tried the frog I hooked 1 pike and lost about 20, it was in Russia....it's the most insane and the most exciting kind of fishing, you have to force your mind and to wait a bit before to set the hook, but top water is incredible!

Frog fishing, that's what i call a challenge with balls my friend, i've been fishing with frogs almost a decade now, after a while fishing with topwater frogs, you'll understand the "game" there are so many tricks to hook pike... this is what works for me: Remember, these frogs are not specifically designed for pike, so you might want to adjust the hooks a little bit, just grab a pair of some serious pliers and curve both hooks a bit up. ..When pike attacks, wait until you'll feel traction, then give a thrust with your rod first before hitting it.... Of course it's not a guarantee to actually catch that pike, but the odds are significantly improved... it works really well for me, i hope it will work for others as well, big thumbs up for this video :D

Hey great vids, just wanted to say what I do to help increase the life of my frogs is once I get home after a session and before I glue up any holes is insert a couple of lengths of rig foam so that next time I'm out then even after a few hits my frog still floats even with water in it so all that needs doing when home again is glue any new holes

Free tip! Just bend those hooks litle bit open and yeas, it is going to get more weed. But it works so much better.

Yes!!! Dude this is literally what I've been doing this past week! I feel your pain on the pike being so hard to hook! Went out one evening and had probably around 12 total blowups and only managed to land one pike and one perch. I think evenings and maybe early mornings are best for frogging. Been trying to get some footage. Will try again tonight and see what happens :D

I recently got the new savage gear frog, it comes with a trailer hook. Haven’t tried it out yet but can see it help hook up and stay on ratio. Good video as always 👍🏻👍🏻

I've used frogs on the Leeds and Liverpool canal for years now. I always have a follow-up bait. Get the strike on the frog, then follow up with a little popper or something with treble hooks. I also used the little z-man frogs rigged with a worm hook, and the hook up ration was nearly 100%.
@johncleery87716 жыл бұрын
As far as i know when using top water frogs you should always strike vertically in order to get a good hook set.

love your vids...good stuff!!! I do a lot of northern pike fishing in northern parts of ontario Canada & as far as topwater goes I recommend the ABROGAST BUZZ PLUG. my gut is telling me you are more than likely familiar with that lure. lost track of how many esox smash it at the surface...cheers.

Hey fella nice video! Yeah its exiting fishing the frogs but they're a fucker for proper hook ups, I've been doing a fair bit of it over the years and the only way to improve yer actual catching is to use a trailer hook. Make sure it points upwards and it'll mostly ride over any weeds and grass Obviously it won't be quite as weedless as it was originally but you will land more fish. My local canal is pretty much unfishable at this time of year unless you use weedless top waters ! As for the lures full o holes , don't bin em, give em a quick coat of Stormsure with a small brush, it's for repairing leaky waders! 2 mins and jobs a good un ! On the fluorocarbon thing I'm not a fan, I've experienced and seen too many bite offs over the years and when it happens you can bet it's gonna be an absolute pig of a fish that swims off with your lure down its throat, I can't understand people saying that the fish can't see them, they stand out like a sore thumb! I'm not a hater that's just my experience of em and I've learnt some very hard lessons using it for leaders Besides that it's good to see you busy fishing and posting vids! Be lucky !!

Try bending your hooks out a bit. So they stick up from the rubber of the frog a bit. This helps with some frogs.

Now then, I'm from hull and noticed you've been to rock city skatepark, do you come to hull often and if you do where do you fish with the best results, I'm currently swapping between the river hull around arram/leconfield and driving to the fossdyke navigation in Lincoln with ok results but would prefer better sessions

How come your pike fishing this time of year when rivers are too low and not enough oxygen in the water? It damages pike and has a high chance of being lethal!

Buy a net mate and stop just throwing them back if ur gonna fish do it properly
@southy486 жыл бұрын
You obviously never had a pike roll in the net, stitching itself up. If you can easily hand land it causes the least damage and is by far the quickest.
