Thus said יהוה, “For three transgressions of Eḏom, and for four, I do not turn it back, because he pursued his brother with the sword, and cast off all compassion. And his displeasure tore incessantly, and he kept his wrath forever. “But I shall send fire upon Tĕman, and it shall consume the palaces of Botsrah.”

“Though you rise high as the eagle, and though you set your nest among the stars, from there I shall bring you down,” declares יהוה.

Therefore hear the counsel of יהוה which He has counselled concerning Eḏom, and the purposes He has purposed concerning the inhabitants of Tĕman: the least of the flock shall drag them away! He shall make their pasture a waste before them! The earth shall be shaken at the noise of their fall. There is an outcry! Its noise is heard at the Sea of Reeds. See, like an eagle he flies up, and spreads his wings over Botsrah. And the heart of the mighty men of Eḏom in that day shall be like the heart of a woman in her pain.

“The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose dwelling is high, who say in your heart, ‘Who shall bring me down to the ground?’

Thus said the Master יהוה, “Because of what Eḏom has done against the house of Yehuḏah by taking vengeance, so that they became very guilty, and they have taken vengeance on them,” therefore thus said the Master יהוה, “I shall stretch out My hand against Eḏom, and I shall cut off man and beast from it and lay it waste - from Tĕman even to Deḏan they shall fall by the sword. “And I shall lay My vengeance on Eḏom by the hand of My people Yisra’ĕl. And they shall do in Eḏom according to My displeasure and according to My wrath. So they shall know My vengeance,” declares the Master יהוה.

“How Ěsaw shall be searched out! His hidden treasures shall be sought out!

“For My sword shall be drenched in the heavens. Look, it comes down on Eḏom, and on the people of My curse, for judgment. “The sword of יהוה shall be filled with blood, it shall be made overflowing with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams. For יהוה has a slaughtering in Botsrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Eḏom. “And wild oxen shall come down with them, and young bulls with bulls. And their land shall be drenched with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.” For it is the day of the vengeance of יהוה, the year of recompense for the cause of Tsiyon.

“Son of man, you are dwelling in the midst of a rebellious house. They have eyes to see but they have not seen, they have ears to hear but they have not heard, for they are a rebellious house.

“Therefore, son of man, prepare your baggage for exile, and go into exile by day before their eyes. And you shall go from your place into exile to another place before their eyes. It could be that they see, though they are a rebellious house.

“If a man walking after wind and falsehood has lied: ‘I preach to you of wine and of strong drink,’ he shall be the ‘preacher’ of this people! “I shall certainly gather all of you, O Yaʽaqoḇ, I shall bring together the remnant of Yisra’ĕl, put them together like sheep of the fold, like a flock in the midst of their pasture, they being noisy because of men. “The breach-maker shall go up before them. They shall break out, and pass through the gate, and go out by it, and their sovereign pass before them, with יהוה at their head!”

“Say to them, ‘Thus said the Master יהוה, “This message is to the prince in Yerushalayim and all the house of Yisra’ĕl who are in their midst.” ’ “Say, ‘I am a sign to you. As I have done, so it is done to them - they are to go into exile, into captivity.’ “And the prince who is in their midst is to bear his baggage on his shoulder at dark and go out. They are to dig through the wall to bring them out through it. He is to cover his face, so that he does not see the land with his eyes. “And I shall spread My net over him, and he shall be caught in My snare. And I shall bring him to Baḇel, the land of the Kasdim, but he shall not see it, and yet die there. 🫢

“Then you shall set your face toward the siege of Yerushalayim, with your arm bared, and you shall prophesy against it. “And see, I shall put cords on you so that you do not turn from one side to another until you have completed the days of your siege. 🫢

“If thieves came to you, if robbers by night, how ruined you would have been! Would they not steal till they had enough?

Even thieves by night would destroy only until they had enough! “But as for Me, I shall make Ěsaw bare. I shall uncover his hiding places, so that he is unable to conceal himself. His seed is ravaged, his brothers and his neighbours, and he is no more.

If grape-gatherers had come to you, would they not leave gleanings?

“Be instructed, O Yerushalayim, lest My being be torn from you, lest I make you a waste, a land not inhabited.” Thus said יהוה of hosts, “Let them thoroughly glean as a vine the remnant of Yisra’ĕl; pass your hand again over the branches like a grape-gatherer.” To whom shall I speak and give warning, so that they hear?

This is what the Master יהוה said concerning Eḏom. We have heard a report from יהוה, and a messenger has been sent among the nations, saying,

“In that day I shall raise up the Booth of Dawiḏ which has fallen down. And I shall repair its breaches and raise up its ruins. And I shall build it as in the days of old, so that they possess the remnant of Eḏom, and all the nations on whom My Name is called,” declares יהוה who does this.

🔑 “But hold fast what you have until I come. “And he who overcomes, and guards My works until the end, to him I shall give authority over the nations, and he shall shepherd them with a rod of iron, as the potter’s vessels shall be broken to pieces, as I also have received from My Father. “And I shall give him the morning star. “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies.” ’ 🫢
