Doesn’t a Mikvah first become mentioned when we are told to bathe and wash ourselves following a battle? I can’t recall the verse, but I always thought a Mikvah was from the Tanakh regarding ritual purity…

Washing and purifying may have been alluded to and that would be the precursor. But remember that modern Judaism is an adaptation to a system without a central Temple.
