Here I show how I make a slitting chisel. This particular tool is meant to go quite deep into a hole hence the long working end.

What kind of wood did you use to make the handle?
@torbjornahman
@torbjornahman 4 жыл бұрын
Oh, that's just pine! A handle on a top tool like this doesn't need to be fancy. Sooner or later it will break and should be easy to replace.

@@torbjornahman If I were to make say, an axe or a hammer. Do you think birch wood would work to use as a handle?

I think it would. Here we often use ash or beech for handles.

What an absolute thing of beauty. As a carpenter I really respect your use of woodworking tools while making and fitting the handle. So many blacksmiths just jump on the belt sander. I know we talked about this before, well I'm still waiting for you to make an adjustable block plane start to finish. Showcase your myriad talents and skills. Keep up the excellent work and thank you for letting us see.

Thank you! I have just recently started to get aquatinted with the world of wooden planes. Quite fascinating and not very complicated when you know how they work. I would love to make one or two some day!

Between plowing my driveway and cooking Thanksgiving dinner I've watched this video twice,twice yesterday. Trying to decide what I enjoy more the hefty chuff chuff chuff of the air hammer or the clack clack clack of the spring hammer. In America today most of us are giving thanks for who we have and what we have in our lives, and eating to much. I have much to be thankful for and I include all the artisan's who practice their craft and those who post on YT. You bring such wonder and knowledge to people of a vastly veryed backgrounds and this is something to be Thankful for. Your splitting hammer is truly a work of art and to use it in work is to honor the history and craftsman of the past. To you and yours a warm and healthy winter season.

A bit late getting to this one....wonderfull tool, great to watch you bring it into existence. I would also like to thank you for treating your wood planes with respect......I think it's because I was taught by my father to always rest a plane on its side, or face corporal punishment that I still get triggered when I see it done other ways....not many people do.
