Not quite. Lightning bolt is any target, whereas torch the tower is a creature or Planeswalker. I get what you're saying though

Kinda weird draft, no one playing UW, UG, or apparently any red at all (5 torches is just ridiculous). Especially since all the other players pilfered the best ways to splash but apparently werent interested. Just felt like a lot of really good cards wheeling and going late. Maybe Im misinterpreting or it was just a stacked bunch of packs.

demoralizing your opponent should never be underestimated as a win condition, and I say this without a hint of irony. I once spiked a game day (back in Khans standard) with a UB control deck that had 3 win cons -- one Ugin and two Silumgar the Drifting Death.

I'm going to argue for 1) Blue, 2) Red, 3) Black, 4) White, 5) Green Blue feels almost unstoppable in this set imo, big finishers like Archive Dragon and Ingenious Prodigy along with a lot of really good, really cheap interaction/low curve creatures, like Sleep-Cursed Faerie, Stopgap (if bargained), etc. make blue such a versatile color and so easy to splash with all of the fixing. Red has insane removal, I think this video proved it best Black has decent options with food, the reprints like Dark Tutelage and Stab Wound with Bitterblossom practically slotting directly into this set, you have decent options, but imo the color needs some splashing to make it viable, mono-black is probably not going to be super viable White, decent support, synergizes well with Blue in the Tap deck, Black in an aristocrats style deck, and red with some decent celebration stuff, but it's just kinda eh. Green, I don't think this means green is bad by any stretch of the mind, but it rewards you more for going outside Green, but it's close honestly, decent creature that give you options to go into other colors easily means you get a lot of versatility, but unfortunately it lacks the punch that blue has That said, I'm just some doofus on the internet and I haven't played a bunch, just seen a lot of content on it and I'm pretty sure this is at least accurate at some points also + engagement or something

Seeing all these red damage spells I just realised not only is there no more battles, but spells no longer target battles. I find this a bit concerning, because we are still gonna play with battles in standard untill September 2025 and it will limit viability of removal that is not "noneland permanent" or "any target".

So weird but this format is getting old for me already. Not even bc there isn't a lot to explore, there is, but it just feels so blah at the end of the day. I don't know, I just feel it lacks a bit of an identity and character and I can't even put my finger on it really. I think it's bc all archetypes do so many wildly different things that I don't find myself connecting to one especially and Bargain/Roles feel like what they are - glue, nuts and bolts. When I think of OG Eldraine I think "mono-color," when I think of LotR I think "ring-tempt", Brothers' War I think "Prototype", one solid thing to center it all. Guess Bargain/Roles is supposed to be that, but it just feels messy. Which is sad, I loved OG Eldraine, could draft that set for ages...

I think the problem is that OG Eldraine nailed the flavor so well, and this set misses a little IMO. When you're comparing a bakery fresh croissant and one from Safeway the differences are really going to stand out.
