Tori is an iconic goddess. I've been listening to her for close to 30 years and listening to her has transcended me to a beautiful place. She's unique, she plays the piano so brilliantly. I saw her live in 2002 the first time and I took my mom. I'm going to get tickets to see her this summer and I'm bringing my mom's memory as she's passed too early. Tori will always have a special place in my heart. ❤️

Tori was my introduction to Kate Bush when I was in high school. I would scour the internet looking for Tori midi files and mp3s. One day I went on a music site to listen to snippets of Tori’s songs and the site recommended that I listen to Kate Bush. Been listening to Kate for over 20 years now. At 47 my dream finally came true after 30 years of being a huge Tori fan I got to see her live in Boston Massachusetts on May 14th and our girl did NOT dissapoint. I'm so happy for you that you finally got to see Tori perform live. She came to New Zealand in the late 90's and I wasn't able to go and as a 17year old i was disappointed to miss her but i thought she would be back... but she has never toured here again. I'm 45 now. It's my dream to see her perform live but I can't see that ever happening. As someone who has loved her music for nearly 30 years it does hurt

I don't know how to explain, seems that she holds the notes on the back of her throat and that doesn't sound nice to me, childish maybe. She always kind of did that, but was more like part of her dinamics than a regular tone as it is now. Maybe she's doing that to preserve her voice, idk.

Tori's musical development was not even really influenced by Kate's music. They probably sound somewhat alike because they were influenced by similar artists. Kate Bush is five years older than Tori Amos. Tori began playing piano at age two and a half and at age five she was the youngest person ever admitted to the Peabody Conservatory of Music prepatory academy. Kate was 10 years old at that time and not a a known artist. Tori studied classical music intensively at the Peabody, she played classical and church music at home, and her older brother introduced her to the music that really did influence her-specifically, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, Joni Mitchell and other musicians of the 1970s. Kate's first single came out in 1978, and it wasn't a massive hit in the United States. By the time of Kate's real cross-Atlantic breakthrough, Hounds of Love, Tori already was fronting her own band. She didn't imitate Kate or her music, and she has always said that she appreciates Kate's music a lot, and she has played Running Up That Hill and And Dream of Sheep live many times. She doesn't dislike or diminish Kate; she just honestly says that her music was not influenced by Kate's music, and people have always called her an imitator. It's really weird. Imagine being told everything you've done in life has been influenced by someone five years older who lives on another continent. Very peculiar. I think Atlantic/East West Records *did* style Tori to try to appeal to Kate fans around the time of Y Kant Tori Read and Little Earthquakes, but by the time Tori made her second album Under the Pink, there's no real comparison to be made. They are just very different artists with some superficial similarities. Tori is a piano prodigy, a lyrical essayist and poet with strong political opinions and metaphysical interests, and Kate is a performance artist, a dancer and a musical fiction writer primarily. Tori doesn't dance or mime and she writes primarily about herself; Kate is inventive but not a preternaturally gifted pianist and she writes more in third person about invented situations than she sings from her own perspective and about her own life. They're both stunningly talented artists in their own rights. They are my two favorite musical artists, ahead of any others by many miles, and they're not the same and neither is a ripoff of the other. If a person listens closely to Tori's music, they will hear clear influences from Led Zeppelin and Joni Mitchell and Laura Nyro and not really from Kate. Kate is theatrical and Tori is interior.

Even Kate would have to tell you Tori is a much better TECHNICAL pianist and has the rare gift of chromesthesia, where sounds appear as colors in the mind's eye.. Decades of classical training and live playing - she won a scholarship to John Hopkins when she was just a child. Kate is a good pianist but it's a tool for her song writing and not a means to entertain. Kate focuses more on atmospheric but repeating chord progressions as a basis As a writer Kate is much more creative, visionary, 'out of the mold', with lyrical subjects both esoteric, deep, brooding, metaphorical. Tori rips her lyrics from her soul - including her rape at knifepoint - something that Kate almost never does, even when she involves her son Bertie. Both women have made me weep unabashedly, dance joyously and ponder the unknowable lives of others. "This Woman's Work" and "China" are both right up there for most movingly beautiful songs of the 20th Century.

To Venus And Back used many overdubs of vocals and instruments and uses variated instruments which would be difficult to emulate in a live setting, so the easiest way to get close to that would be to either use tracks or samples.
