Torksey in Lincolnshire has an amazing history. Adrian Gray tells the fascinating story of its history from the Romans and the Fosse Dyke, via Saxon pottery and Viking invaders, to Victorian viaduct and the huge row it provoked.

This is brilliant. Absolutely fascinating. As a kid I used to stay at what was The Elms caravan site adjacent to the lock and used to swim in Fossdyke with my grandparents. Only a week or so ago I visited the White Swan to reminisce.

I grew up in Dunham on Trent and the old villagers always talked about the Vikings camping close to Torksey. I was told the area you mention was the area!! Clearly oral history as they refuted the area in those days that historians were indicating. Now their perspective proved correct!!
