Thanks for posting. Unless people see videos like this they won't have a clue how power gets into their homes and workplaces.

Glad you enjoyed it. I remember visiting around 1993 during a friend's and family open day event I think it was. Absolutely noisy as hell but brilliant. Loved being driven over the huge coal pile. Thanks for watching 🙂

Trekking & Towpaths If I was still working there I could have taken you for another tour around the site as in the last few months we were allowed to take friends and family for visits. I am sure you would have enjoyed it, I spent most of my time as an operator in the control room , it was amazing how people said it was just like being on the star ship Enterprise 😂. It was a great place to work. I will now enjoy watching some of the other walks you have done and try some of them out. Keep safe and take care

Thanks for this excellent video (watched a dozen or so, so far, but this is my 1st comment). I sure wouldn't mind visiting this viaduct myself, one day. This straight line-of-route used to host the Harwich Boat-Trains (from Liverpool/Manchester) but, with such an early closure of this section of line, boat-trains subsequently had to take a big detour north-east, via Gainsborough Lea Rd Station. I was still a little tyke when we'd head off on our Continental hols, boarding our boat-train at Guide Bridge, which then took the Woodhead route and went around Gainsborough way - but I was way too young to remember anything. These days, I still have my Continental hols, but by air - and I'm often fortunate to have a window-seat, where I'm inevitably 'well-chuffed' to get my bearings once I see Cottam and West Burton Power Stations.

I used to fish in the shadow of Torksey bridge and used to walk accross the bridge before the walkway was put in just walking on the girders with the trent below !. Once me and a couple of pals were walking across on the top edge of the bridge , which is about 18 inches across , when one of them grabbed me and made out he was going to push me in. I've been scared of heights ever since but have revisited a few years back and walked along the new walkway.

2 spans of reinforced box girder the extra centre truss was added as the box sagged with its own weight & since 2016 the bridge was opened as a permissive bridleway, the entire bed is still down apart from a missing steel girder bridge which has the village nameboard bolted to it

I was in that area yesterday, drove through Cottam, but had no idea Torksey Viaduct was there at the time. I wish I'd have realised as I'd have stopped off for an explore. Great that it remained despite being out of use for decades - so it could be repurposed. I read that it's currently just a walkway. But great if they upgrade it for cycles, and incorporate the old line leading to the viaduct if possible.

There used to be three power stations in that area,Cottam,West Burton and High Marnham and in the past i worked at all three of them. I do believe one of them has a smaller more efficient gas power station carrying on generating electricity.

Back in 1991 or 92 I was lucky enough to do so. There was a friend's and family open day. The noise inside was tremendous, ear protection over esr plugs 😂 They even took us in a land rover over the coal pile 🙂
@daz46434 жыл бұрын
@@TrekkingExploration Funny you should mention the ear plugs Ant. My old man was a miner here in Staffs and he had chance to go into the cab on a class 47 while it was waiting to load the MGRs he said the noise was unbelievable even with plugs and defenders on. A rare working as they were usually 56's.

I’ve worked on the Stack for Delta International doing repair work on it. it’s 650 ft and it’s one of the best chimneys I’ve worked on the lift on the inside all the way to the roof is a life saver, I’ve only had to climb the stairs all the way to the top once. I’ve got a video I took with my DJI Mavic 2 Zoom about 3 weeks ago on my KZbin channel.

Beautiful, amazing sunny day, phenomenal camera and drone work ... the icing on the cake? Ant has arrived, beauty and history in all directions including 16th century castle, Ant flits by asap just about to focus on it, but then he spots sleepers, ok iron girders visible parts of the bridge structure so obviously the castle which redefined English history doesn't qualify for further analysis, but come on there are track beds, even a station and huge derelict power station no less, what a stupid place to build a castle, sort of takes away from the cooling towers!
@TrekkingExploration3 жыл бұрын
Cheers Robert. It's almost a year since i did this. I did plan on returning to the Castle at some point maybe i will later this year :)
@MakeAllThingsBeautiful3 жыл бұрын
@@TrekkingExploration you doing a superb job Ant, it's really good, you have enthusiasm just finding the track beds and a few sleepers, and a railway carriage or signal box makes it all worth your while. Don't worry about the castle, it's actually really only a fortified manor house and seems very private maybe no access, though there was a bit of battle there in the english civil war and suffered similar fate to Newark castle.

When they demolish the power station they will be left with a brownfield site that could be developed for industry and housing. With that in mind; if they retain the railway without pulling up the tracks it could be used for passenger and light freight transportation related to said housing and industry. Even if it is run by a heritage society, it would be such a great shame to pull it up and destroy yet another important link in Britain's rail network.

Interesting reply to Mat Driver, Antony. You are also creating the same sort of images people will look back on. I was just starting school when Cottam was constructed. Seems poor value for money for such a short time of generation. I hope you'll be around to document its demolition. I'll take a look along there myself now we seem to have nicer weather. BTW thanks for the porn... a 47 in two-tone green.. 😌
