Great course on using the Tormek. You have a way of explaining that simplifies the process to give outstanding results. I never thought I would be able to afford, or need a Tormek, but after asking your 5 day course and using your Tormek, I realized how effective and convenient it is to use to sharpen not only all of my turning tools, but knives, chisels and plane blades. Thank you Glenn. Great video.

Glenn - the comment about "making the tool used" is sooooo funny, cause i thought i was the only one who did that!!! I recently bought the Tormek System, after having great difficulty sharpening my tooling. Although it was primarily purchased for the lathe tooling, its great for all the other straight blades as well. Looking at cost comparison - i went down the diamond plate and japanese stone path, and i can honestly say, it would have been cheaper to go straight to the Tormek System.

Thank you so much for the most comprehensive video on wet sharpening sharpening I've seen. Although I could never afford a Tormek T8 I'm slowly upgrading my Record Power wg200. I have already purchased the SVD-186R and the TTS100. Next up the SVS-50 . At the moment I'm torn between upgrading to a TS200 or pushing my limited budget to the diamond wheel TF200.

Glenn, can you get the same effect by reshaping or rough grinding the tool on a CBN when before final sharpening on the Tormek ? I have only resharpened on a CBN or white wheel ,and have had good results, I have never fine sharpened or honed as you are demonstrating.

good tips, but what grit wheel did you use, the 400 or 1000 grit?, also from watching the Tormek video series of sharpening, they say to PRESS on the threaded rod of the support & lock it down FIRST, then the other, it ensures the rod is PARALLELL to the wheel's surface.

I own the Tormek T-8, but I have heard that the machine would have a longer turn around time when sharpening M42 steel; that is steel with 10% cobalt! Yesterday I purchased the Tradesman Wood Turner grinder set up with 180 grit CR and 600 T8-600 grit wheels. Quiet an investment anyways! I purchases the Tradesman with the Tormek bracket, so the jigs will be universal to both machines. I am planing on using both machines and thereby utilizing the Tormek as a de-burring finishing station. Long story short have you heard of the Tormek having such problems cutting M42 steel?
@TormekSharpening
@TormekSharpening Жыл бұрын
Hi! No there are no such problems. You might be a bit more efficient with the diamond grinding wheel though :) stay sharp!

If you need to add a black sharpie line on the wheels, why not design it so it has a groove so you don't need to?
@TormekSharpening
@TormekSharpening 2 жыл бұрын
The grind stone wears down slowly over time, so the groove would disappear. Also it would affect the sharpening negatively. A sharpie does it just fine until you know by experience you are in the sweet spot :)

@@TormekSharpening I mean the wheels at 6min 33s. Why not just have a line across either printed on or embossed across the two wheels. Seems mad you'd require sharpie for this bit.

Indispensable, should be required watching. 27:20 The top view even gives you a rough idea of how much free space you will need around your sharpening station. Great for when you need to make the most of it in a tiny workshop.

do you not think it would be a good idea insted of keep saying the 'the marker method and say what the angle should be on the WM200
@TormekSharpening
@TormekSharpening Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback Dave! The marker method is perfect to repeat the existing angle of an edge. It will speed up the sharpening process since a minimal amount of steel needs to be removed. After you have found the right angle using the marker method it works perfectly fine to use the WM-200 AngleMaster to see what angle your edge has 👍 Stay sharp!
