Yeah that was crazy. For the first time ever, my family and I actually grabbed some of our valuable belongings and put them in our basement to prepare. We don’t live in Jackson, but we were right smack in the middle of the tornado’s possible trajectories at one point.

Yep we rounded up our cats and hid in the bathroom. Never did that before. I was shaking how scary it was.

Used to live in Jackson near 195 and Jackson Mills Rd. My old house was 3 miles from where the West Commodore tornado ended and 2.3 miles from where the Jackson/Howell (Hyson Rd/Aldrich Rd area) tornado started. I hope everyone is ok and things return to normal soon.

Jackson was my hometown. It's crazy to hear tornadoes are even possible.

Never experienced a tornado, well maybe one but I've delt with wild fires and hurricanes in FL. And a huge brush fire is freaking scary sounding, I can only imagine what a tornado sounds like.

Every once in a while there’s a bad one down south, like the EF-3 that hit Mullica Hill in 2021, but they usually come from dying hurricanes and tropical storms with lots of power. The only other time I can think of is an F3 that hit my neighborhood in 1973 that not many people know about. And it was created by a storm system very similar to this one, a large squall line of thunderstorms that had already caused tornadoes further out west. But yes, most tornadoes in NJ are really weak ones, and tornadoes like this are very rare. They’re becoming more common because Tornado Alley’s eastward shift now seems to mean that storms are stronger when they enter NJ. Or it could just be global warming, idk.

I had not really a tornado but i live in wv and we had 70 mph winds which is like a EF0 Tornado it took some of my neighbors shingles and even one part of their fence it was april the first it knocked power out too.

You guys lucked out greatly. Unbeknownst to many, this was actually a fairly weak tornado compared to what the same storm system did march 31st. However, this is still very saddening and I wish the town a fast recovery.

It’s been 12 years since I last had a tornado (I’m from Western Mass. A place that almost never has tornados) You can still see the scar from it. It’s recovering slowly.

I hear 6 Flags Great Adventure is in Jackson, and the world's tallest rollercoaster, if the damage was that bad, who knows if the rollercoasters survived. Glad you made it.

I was working at the nearby ShopRite that night. I didn’t know it was a tornado until the power went out and one of my coworkers told me about it.

An average of 2 per year in NJ -- I'm always surprised when we see tornadoes down here in NM, and we get around 10 a year.

@@ClawBoss just do a quick google search, they track all the tornadoes that occur. The highest year was back in ‘89. On average New Jersey sees 3 tornadoes per year and it’s been like that since the 1950s.
