Tornado Warning, Siren Activation - Yorkville, IL

Kendall County was placed under a Tornado Warning this afternoon after NWS Doppler radar showed a storm capable of producing a tornado. The sirens were activated, and fire departments sent out their spotters. No tornadic activity was reported and the Warning expired at 14:15 hrs.
Sirens are ASC T-128s.

In Cedar Rapids Iowa the sirens went off before the bad Derecho 8 10 2020 and it was eerily calm before that storm too then about 2 to 4 minutes after the sirens shut down the shelf cloud and Derecho came in and did alot of damage. Did these sirens in Yorkville go off before that Derecho when it came into Illinois from Iowa on 8 10?

@@Cantu2001 my cellphone has severe weather warnings through accuweather and the sound I selected on my phone for the alert was a 2t22 Federal signal siren in steady alert. It went off one time for a tornado watch not a warning when I was at work startled me especially when I saw it was a tornado watch for our area. This was in March 2019 and not in a tornado prone area, especially in March

It differs due to siren type and the preference of the city/county. Usually, they are not placed next to somebody's house, rather at the nearest park, school, fire department, etc. Sirens are typically placed between 1 and 2 miles apart.

Once I was listening to the radio and it says a tornado watch was issued and later it said a tornado warning was issued. I saw a funnel cloud, but no tornados in my town. But there was an EF-3, F-1 and F-0 about 40 miles from my house.

A little bit scary. That's because they only go on for storms. If you live in an area where volunteer fire departments still use air raid sirens(which is what these are)for ambulance rescue and fire calls then you hear them go off more frequently usually a short steady tone(shorter than a tornado)for ambulance rescue calls or rise fall for a fire. When I was at the University of Alabama in the mid to late 1970s they had two tornado sirens that I heard in Tuscaloosa . One was on campus very high pitched, the same pitch as a Sterling M10 high single tone, but with a much slower wind up and spin down. It was not as loud as a Sterling M10 even standing near the building it was on. I don't know what it was I never saw it. It was on top of Graves hall. It has since been replaced with an ACA P15 on Gorgas library which is very close to an octave below it in pitch and much much louder(sounds like a rotating Sentry 10V but with a faster wind down). Unless you were close to Graves hall you could barely hear the old siren even on campus. If you were in Tuscaloosa proper not near campus you had to strain to even hear it. And back then I don't remember Tuscaloosa having any other sirens for tornadoes other than a lower pitched one at Bryce Hospital , which was the second siren I was talking about. Bryce hospital was next to the campus and that siren was much louder. I never saw that one either. I never heard any other sirens other than those two during tornado warnings. I wish I knew what kind of siren the one on Graves hall was. I don't think it was a Sterling.

They sorta look the same. If you search on google the ASC T-128 & the ASC T-135 you'll notice that the T-135 has a better design in the central area and the T-128 looks different between that

The t135s used to be the ACA P50s that ASC renumbered when ACA became ASC. Then they stopped making the P50s and made the t135s similar to the t128s if I recall correctly
