That's EXACTLY what this monster was. Literally if you weren't in a underground shelter or a structure designed to handle 300+ mph winds, you basically signed your death warrent if you were in the path of this thing. My house was destroyed by this tornado, and the only thing that saved my family was a underground bunker my dad and I built specifically with something like this in mind. The house, our possessions, everything gone and our house was nothing but a foundation

Literally has been but they aren’t rating them EF5 anymore
@thewindowsexperience4896 күн бұрын
@@clutchthecinnamonsergal8493 The rating isn't retired. Both the F and EF systems are damage based, not wind based. A tornado has to create a certain amount and kind of damage to be rated an EF5 (the general rule is that it must be a well built house [they go into a lot of detail on the construction means of the house], must be completely destroyed and the foundation swept clean). Even if you go by wind speed, there haven't been many that reach the estimated windspeeds of an EF5, and even those that do didn't hit much other than maybe a few trees, so they're not rated EF5. If a mobile home is put on a foundation, it can be completely destroyed and swept clean off the foundation, but the tornado won't be rated an EF5 because the home wasn't well built. If I remember correctly, the indicators they use in defining a well built home includes anchors into the foundation that are bent inside the foundation or expand so that they can't be pulled out. I imagine that most homes built in the United States nowadays would be classified as well built by the National Weather Service. I'm not an expert, but this is my understanding on the situation, that being that it literally has been more than 10 years since a tornado actually caused EF5 damage (even if there have been a few that had the wind speeds of an EF5, like El Reno) TL;DR: Ratings are damage based, not windspeed based. If a tornado didn't cause EF5 damage, it won't be rated EF5.

I took in alot watching Reed. And I attended several storm chasing classes and have gotten several certifications. Storms like these are ones we don't ever want to see. That's also why I trained in first aid and became a certified EMT. So I can immediately switch from chaser to first responder search and rescue.

I went on a mission trip summer 13 and summer 14 to moore. we fixed up a different elementary school and fixed up a families house that wasn't exactly leveled down but still suffered damage. a year later and she still had shit in her backyard and could afford to fix anything so she has cheap ass coolers in the house instead of a fridge. we put money together and bought her a fridge and stocked it and and cleaned out the backyard.

The scariest part of debris is knowing there might be people, dead or alive, possibly disfigured or torn apart, flying through it. You might be seeing a person and mistaking it for building pieces. That's horrifying to think about. I can only imagine the tragic and graphic aftermath that people might come across. I'd be scarred for life.
