nothing more frustrating then finding out the occupants were standing outside all along....great job boys....nice video showing VES technique and a properly done emergency egress and all three made it out with no injuries.......don't panic and use your trainning

Art Mccomeskey Don't get yourself into a no win situation in the first place. Where were the officers and any fire fighters who were standing around when a Pole of the fire watchers Should have been going on. The First thing you do is ask everyone around, "Who owns this house and where are they?"

+JB91710 It's not always the firefighter's fault. I've been on scene a couple times now when after asking that very question, they were misinformed and state the occupants were still inside. The problem is often with the occupants failing to report their escape to the authorities on scene, and not with the firefighters
@wilsjane
@wilsjane 6 жыл бұрын
As soon as it is known that their is no one inside, a specific air horn signal should be agreed to stop the search and get firefighters to safety. The crew hanging around outside should have made a priority of finding out the true situation, along with the most likely location if anyone was still inside. Firefighters do a great job, but often seem to be let down by poor organisation and communication putting them at risk.

Frustrating, however, also a relief, ESPECIALLY when you didn't find any inside.

This is why you have to take out the whole window when you vent. Not just the glass. That took way too long to "bail out"
@jtcool8162
@jtcool8162 3 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Slow bail outs. I have seen a guy dive out the second story window on to the ladder head first engulfed in flame cause he got flashed over on. Lucky his turnout gear did it's thing. he walked away with some minor second degree burns. All that to Say if he bailed that slow he would certainly be dead. Granted he had some incentive to move quickly. Lol

NJP Vlogs -N- Stuff I'm a firefighter in Winnipeg and this happened to me but it was a six alarm fire my crew fell through the floor and I was the last one in line so I didn't go through the floor but when I saw them fall I immediately grabbed the door frame and went down the hole letting my guys use me as a human ladder. And at this point I was a Captain. Greetings from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Used to live across the road from Ed, a Scarborough fireman. Captain, Chief? It was the '60s and '70s. Such good friends with my dad. When we replaced some windows, they had to be big enough to fit through with an SCBA on. Even the typical tiny basement windows. Rented or borrowed a big to me gas powered saw to cut cinder blocks. To control dust and heat, a little water should be sprayed on the blade and cut. Ed came over to help. He sprayed a little water. My dad and I had a running joke after that, about what "put a little water on it" means to a fireman. The basement wasn't finished yet, windows were the first step, so it was easy to push all the water into the floor drain. It was a lot of water. Personally, by the time I was 8 or so, I really appreciated the large basement windows for sneaking in and out of. Don't tell my parents.

We had a fire at an apt years back. 8 units, one got struck by lightning (the only non occupied unit). When I got out (there was not any fire in my unit), I left the door open to my cats an escape (I couldn't get to them, they were all fine). As soon as I saw a firefighter starting to search the building, I made sure they knew everyone was out of that unit. This is why. While that day there was no loss of life of any kind, it easily could have been a different story.

There was a rollover which would make it very hot, but I wonder if it was also a hot fire because they were in the exhaust flow path, since they entered through the top window which would be the same window most heat would try to escape from (heat rises). I've read exhaust flow path temperatures can go up to 260C which is close to the upper limit of what SCBA masks are rated for.

Glad these guys made it out. Also the tip of that ladder is in the wrong place. at a window, the tip of the ladder should be placed right underneath the window sill, so the tip of the ladder won't create a very dangerous tripping hazard when exiting the window. as seen at 1:10

When house is burning and a window is open upper floor it is situation like a fireplace. All smoke and heat goes to open window in upper floor. Aisles and stairways acts like a chimney. Is it better attack both teams from first floor? One team takes basement and another team goes up. Fire can´t so easily surprise firefighters.

Had they cleared the entire window and window frame they could have walked out. They got stuck because they didn't think before going in. I am glad that they were able to get out safely. As for they primary search being negative, a 360 of the first arriving officer may have had found the home owners quickly.

The water in the hose not only extinguishes burning material it will also COOL the hot gasses. Open the nozzle to a 50% cone and spray the ceiling long enough to cool the space down. K.I.S.S. A burning material can't burn if you soak it with water. If the air is hot, cool it with water. Keep to the basics! Find what's burning and Soak it.

@micha1195

I'm just curious. Aren't they to old for working in such a hard conditions? Secondly... Why they had not broken all the windows to do a proper ventilation and then searched the hsuse if they knew that the hight temperature is coming? Thanks to this, they could get rid of smoke and quickly find a fire so they could solve the problem quite quickly. PS: I'm from Europe and we have here another tactics to make this things done that's why iam asking
@fredericbouffard7619
@fredericbouffard7619 4 жыл бұрын
As long as you're in shape age doesn't matter so I cannot speak on behalf of them... But for the part about ventilation it's a good thing that they didn't broke every window. To do so would have only feed the fire more oxygen which would have resulted in the augmentation of the fire growth and the rapid deterioration of the environment. The more you contain a fire from getting oxygen the slower it will increase since it's one of the three elements needed for a fire to evolve. They did what they thought was right and it didn't work. A fire can get out of hand and thankfully no one got hurt!
