This was by far the best explanation and demonstration needed in regards to changing lanes. I finally found the right info!! I struggle with how much to turn the steering wheel at a fast speed when changing lanes, how to gauge the distance of the car behind me and the time it takes to check the mirrors and my blind spot ! You hit it on the nail! Thank you!!

@mostinho73 жыл бұрын
Done thanks Signal first before checking mirrors (because if you check mirror first you have to check again after) Must check 1. Rear view mirror (if car behind you wants to also switch lanes, let them switch first) 2. Side video mirror (if you see full car in side view mirror then you have enough room, also make sure car isn’t speeding up, if it is then let it pass you before you switch lanes) 3. Blind spot check Steer slightly when switching not suddenly Don’t steer the wheel while checking blind spot Give your self a distance of two car lengths before switching behind a car, the car you switch behind might stop you need enough distance to stop too

6:27 Really, I thought I was the only one. I guess it's a natural tendency to turn your head and wheel at the same time until you learn the coordination. I will never forget when I was taking driver's ed and the instructor would get so mad when I would do this. He got so mad one day, he said, if you do that again, I'm going to cuff you one. This is what I remember more than anything from driver's ed. I'm watching this video because 40 years later, I'm still not as confident as I need to be in changing lanes.

1.Could you please instruct how to do acceleration at merging points on freeway? 2.Is it okie to press the gas pedal all of a sudden to reach the poster speed? 3. What are the lines which we should note while changing lanes such as solid line with normal line and solid line 4. Should be wait all the way to the very end of the merging lane to finish to merge the freeway.
@nicolassarazin23114 жыл бұрын
1) accelerate into your spot and don't brake, because if you do, everyone else brakes behind you, and that could cause a crash. 2) don't do that, it will cause wheel spin, wheel spin gives you no grip, if you ever have to steer, you'll see the car not going in the direction you wanna go and you'll either steer too much and brake and then you'll see you are moving too fast in the direction you wanna go, that's called understeer. Sudden braking and acceleration is hardly ever good. 3) don't change lanes on solid lines, you'd fail the road test and police would fine you. 4)if you have to not be late, don't do that.

I have been driving for two years and I have never been in an accident, I’m just trying to improve my skills because I suck at changing lanes
@SprZrk7 ай бұрын
The situation that I came across this morning was the following: I entered the highway from the acceleration lane/ramp ( actually it's is the first lane from the right that stretches all the way till the exit,it doesn't end ) .After that, I found myself in the middle lane , having 2-3 cars in front of me (moving with 110 -115km/h) and one car following from behind. The left lane was almost empty so it wouldn't have been an issue to change lanes to the left.However, returning back to the middle lane didn't seem easy and safe. Changing lanes to the left and then and slowing down to return to the middle lane doesn't seem safe and the right thing to do. On the other hand, should I want to speed up , I would have to go over 120km/h, get ahead of these cars ... and that doesn't even guarantee me that I won't miss the exit ( doesn't seem very safe either). What would be the ideal thing to do in that scenario? Honestly it's the only thing that is bugging me about the test and I get mixed responses .

Thank you so much I failed my drivers test because he said I cut the driver behind me and I was merging into a left lane from the right to left and I’m not sure if I cut him because he was drivin fast but I still merged and he got mad! So no idea if he was trying to fail me because we were near the intersection 🙃it was a sudden left lane
@TorontoDrivers3 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that! He might have failed you for impeding him. When changing lanes, this is what we need to be mindful of (not to impede the car behind us). All the best for the next test!

Some situation when I try to change lane because my exit from highway is coming soon and cars are moving fast and for short time so in this situation I keep driving even my exit is very near because it's not safe to change lane, I could miss my exit but it is safer for me, for example if your exit is coming soon don't stay in fast lane move to slow lane few minutes before your exit arrive etc.
