My 30 year old Craftsman Heater has been fussy for years. I think one of my buddies must have turned it up because it's fussy about starting. I figured out that if I have the cover loose (screws removes down one side) so I can lift it when starting it will allow it to fire off because it's not over oressurized with air through the burners. Going to go out and try and back off the pressure and see if that makes it fire off without having to raise the lid to reduce the amount of air being forced through the burner. Once it lights, it goes like gangbusters. Which is good because the shop is 3000 sqft and 18 ft tall. But boy does it go through the diesel! Thanks for posting this. My manual for the thing has been AOL for decades. (too many moves)

It would only work with the cover off, the error always said e1 and the pump was 4.5+ psi out of 5.5 I was undr the impression I had to little pressure from the pump and may need a new one. I just restored an older reddy 165,000 btu same issue but "apparently" it's designed for kerosene only. I'm using diesel & no matter the pump pressure it still fills the shop with smoke & see flames shoot beyond cone too.Could it be nozzle fatigue ? It is clean & seems to be in good condition ! Luckily my protemp 125,000 btu runs great on diesel
@SteveRobReviews5 жыл бұрын
Im thinking the air pump pressure is wrong . Look at the specs and try resetting the pressure again or as you suspect the nozzle is worn.

I would think the tank is not venting correctly and as you use fuel it's causing a vacuum in the tank. Check your cap .

Hi Steve, I have a 90,000 btu reddy heater that starts up fine and shoots some flames at first then evens out. The problem is after about 30 minutes of run time the center cone slowly goes from orange glowing , to cold and heat reduces eventually shutting down. Any help would be appreciated ! Thx! Brent
@SteveRobReviews4 жыл бұрын
Doesn't sound like its shutting off from the thermostat more like its running out of fuel. Your air pump pressure needs to have a gauge on it so you can see if the pump is not working right. They sell pump kits as they do wear out over time. Id start with looking at the pump pressure on startup and when it starts to shut down , is it dropping pressure .
@bongomakers6 жыл бұрын
Steve, why will my heater run fine with the hood off but shuts down when the hood is on?
@SteveRobReviews6 жыл бұрын
Without knowing your unit exactly I would think your getting enough air with it off compared to on so look at your air pump pressure specs and make sure your inlet filter is clean . Great starting points . Cheers
@frankholbert17386 жыл бұрын

@SteveRobReviews5 жыл бұрын
I would definitely check the air pump pressure. Does it show flames coming out the front. Wow 5 gallons in 25 minutes is definitely not right.

Tyler the air valve is like any valve that restricts supply so a clockwise turn on the valve should reduce the air pressure.

@@SteveRobReviews I did, i found a leak I think and got the air pressure around 5psi, but now I can't get it to fire, and it did before.
@SteveRobReviews Жыл бұрын
Tyler the accuracy of a gauge should not be trusted 100% . I usually fine tune it a bit without the gauge . Not enough pressure it won't fire and too much has flames shooting out the front so open it up a but at a time till it starts if it's a low pressure fault and not something else.
