Ok, have 12 months left on my warranty and since I want my bike to last I pulled the plug and rode 600 miles in May to Moonshine Harley-Davidson in Tennessee (watch them on utube). They installed a S&S 465G cam chest kit, fulsac 2-1-2 headers, Power Vision tuning.....bike runs Awsome!

Very good topic just picked up a 2020 / 114 Road glide S ran it 1000 miles for brake in and 1K service did a stage 2 torque kit. Also Ventilator elite intake, Vance & Hines power dual full exhaust, Screaming eagle pro tune WITH smart tune . I agree about the pushrods however The M8 works really well with this build. No increase in performance clatter...civilized with a real seat grab At 63 years old I prefer to get the weight rolling other builds were always aftermarket .How ever as of this posting this combo really rocks. For the price point I feel money well spent. Ride safe

Thank you, I really like that torque cam as it gains in the low and mid but doesn't really give up anything on top. Sounds like you have a really nice setup going on your bike, it should really good with that exhaust, air cleaner and tune with that cam.

My first experience with Stage 2 (SE torque cam) was on a 2017 Ultra Classic. It was an excellent performance upgrade and I found that first year M8 to be as reliable as an anvil. My new ride is a 2022 Road Glide Special. In stock trim it runs about as strong as the Stage 2 107. The 114 runs really strong with the SE stage 1 and sounds great with 4.5 Street Cannons. I have all the parts for the SE torque cam including high SE tappets and inner cam bearing just waiting for the appt to get it done at Harley. If I can maintain the warranty and reliability like on the 107 I'll be one happy camper. I use my bike for a commuter so it gets lots of miles and about 50% at high speeds on the Interstate (85-95mph cruising speeds). The torque cam didn't fall short on the ultra and I hope I made the right choice for the Glide. Time will tell. I like to live in 2500-3500 RPM range.

Went to Moonshine horsepower in Franklin Tennessee with my 2021 SGS had them do a 128 kit with bulletproof primary. Moonshine horsepower 1 7/8”pro stock header and exhaust. 64mm intake with the 492/30 cam. 6.24 GM/SEC injectors. Horsepower topped out at 138.7. Torque went to 151. The guys there were super cool. They had me in their shop for hours showing me different things and just talking. After the build was done, two days later we had a few drinks after the shop closed also talking about the build. I heard they were good. so I trailered from Wisconsin to Tennessee. They did not disappoint.

I know its subjective, but what are the 909s like? Did you have them on before the cam upgrade? Was there any torque drop? I really like the uppercut look. In Australia our choices of exhausts are pretty weak. Its pretty much rinehart, s&s, freedom and cobra. The cobras are pretty cheap and the style i like the look of so.... still dont want to spend the money twice though hahaha.

I chose the Torque cam for my 02 Fatboy back when I made that change. Got a Triglide with a Rekluse clutch and a Pingle shifter . I have a stage I on it and If I go stage II it will be the power cam. I also have a Freewheeler and if I go up with that I will do a phase II power kit. The Triglide is for touring and uphill down hill and it hauls pretty good as it is with just a phase I. The extra Torque will be great. The engine is a 107. The FLRT is a 114 C.I. and it is pretty perky. I would go with the power kit probably but might go with the torque kit since I don't ride the trike that fast.

@GixxerFoo 5 ай бұрын
With shop labor, buying the exhaust system and tuner plus the cam and associated parts that sounds pretty close especially if you're having it done at the dealer. In my opinion it's a little high since they are I am assuming going to cut your old pushrods out and not have to get into the top end and go back with adjustable pushrods. But if it's a Harley Dealer install I would say 4K is about right, if it was a Indy shop I would do more looking around.

I have a 2020 ultra limited with stage 1. I've been researching for 2 years now and am looking to upgrade to stage 2 SE power cam and feuling race oil pump/cam plate. Tab A slip on exhaust (SE Pro Tuner done with Stage 1). Dealer master tech said he's installed about 80 percent torque cams vs. power cams. Personally, am looking for power when getting ready to pass when my bike is loaded with passenger and luggage. What are your thoughts? Great content in your videos. TIA
@GixxerFoo
@GixxerFoo 5 ай бұрын
I would recommend an aftermarket cam like Wood, S&S or Feuling but if you want to stick with SE l would go the torque cam route. It exceeds or matches the power cam down low where you spend most of your time riding. You'll have the roll on passing power and honestly the torque cam doesn't give up much of anything on top to the power cam.

Low end grunt that gets me aggressively ‘at’ the speed limit is way more important to me than meeting all the nice police officers. Young riders seem to talk a lot about the low end torque being for “‘old guys” while they tend to prefer the suggestion of WOT performance; while the “old guys” have had their share of meeting the police and are satisfied with teasing them by looking like we want their attention and just powering into the speed limit. It’s two different kinds of smart. One leaves your insurance rates and fines low while the other makes the insurance salespeople and police glow. Think or pay the system… …that’s a no-brainer for me.

Dyno tune will make a big difference, every engine is different even if they are identical. A map for identical bike setups will make them run decent and safely, a dyno tune will dial the map into to your specific motor. A good dyno tune even on a stock bike can be 10 horse and torque swing up, you'll feel a difference.

They've had some break but that was with some extreme cams, I've had some reservations about going with a set of them. The ease and convenience is really appealing though with not having to pull the valve covers and relieve spring pressure to swap out cams each time.

@bloodymarvelous4790
@bloodymarvelous4790 3 жыл бұрын
Those are great parts, but not for a Stage I, II, or III build. The M8 motor needs back pressure in the exhaust system. Removing the cat and having stepped exhaust pipes eliminates all back pressure. What you've done is brought down the performance in the range you ride in by about 25%, while increasing the top HP number by about 10%. If you were to put your bike on a dyno, you'd see a huge dip in torque in the low end, and when you ride you'll find the engine wakes up above 3500 or 4000 RPM, but just doesn't want to move the bike at lower RPM. V&H makes dB killers for the Hi-Output exhausts. Get those, it will recover most of the low end performance you've lost with this setup, and they're not that expensive, probably around 150 NZD. You'll find your bike will become a lot more responsive.

If you want to be loud or you're drag racing taking out the baffles in for open pipes is great. But it kills that bottom end like you said. For the street l like the standard baffles, it's a good compromise.

🙄Not only do you have to buy the kit and have it installed at Harley-Davidson You have to buy the Harley-Davidson screamin eagle tuner You have to buy Harley-Davidson screamin eagle exhaust system or they will void your warranty Even if you put aftermarket mufflers on it, it will avoid you warranty 😳 So just getting cams put in by Harley doesn't save you from #them voiding your warranty..😲😔
@GixxerFoo
@GixxerFoo 4 жыл бұрын
A lot of that depends on the dealership as well. You can put an aftermarket exhaust on, but you would have to tune it with the Screamin Eagle Street Tuner. If you flashed it with an aftermarket tuner and had an engine problem it's easier to say the tuner was the cause. It's really a tough call, but safe to either buy Harley parts or wait till the warranty is up.

Had a stage 2 torque cam installed in my 107 Heritage recently. I was told by Harley Corp after I made a phone call that my V&H slip-ons would NOT void my warranty. They said they were only really concerned with the tuner. My HD Dealership has already begun installing V&H Eliminator 300’s on all their new 2020 Heritage Softails. The "void your warranty" issue was debunked a while ago. 4. There is more than "where the power comes on" of a difference between torq. & pwr. cams. They sound different too. 5. I called HD to ask specific questions about dealer installation and the effect on the warranty. Based on what I have read and heard, I was surprised to be told that having the dealer install a SE Stage 2 kit would not ensure warranty coverage on a later failure, if HD deemed the cause of the failure was the Stage 2 upgrade. According to the service person I spoke with at HD, the only way to ensure warranty coverage on any SE stage upgrade is to have it done within 60 days of purchasing the bike. I followed up and asked "To be clear, whether or not I install the SE Stage 2 kit, or an HD dealer installs it, there is no difference as to whether or not a future warranty claim might be denied due to the installation of a Stage upgrade.....Is that correct?" And there answer was "Yes, that is correct." At that point I asked....."Then why should an owner be concerned about only using HD parts versus after-market parts, or be concerned about having a dealer perform the work?". The service person responded that there is no 100% certainty to HD warranty claims beyond the 60 day window, on motorcycles that have been modified. HD will review every warranty claim, collect all of the facts, and make a determination. If they come to a conclusion that whatever was done to the bike outside of that 60 day window had an impact on the failure that prompted the warranty claim, they very possibly and likely will deny the warranty claim.......... There is a LOT of misunderstanding and misinformation on warranty provisions and claims. I would suggest all owners make themselves very familiar with the Magnuson-Moss Act. A good understanding of your rights will certainly help. However, if a warranty claim is denied, ultimately it could come down to whether or not the owner is willing to take legal action against a manufacturer, and thereby spend a LOT of time and money with the hopes of collecting on a warranty claim. Hope this is helpful.
@GixxerFoo

Harley give you 1 year warranty all parts installed after 60 days of delivering. Getting all you upgrades done within 60 days is the only way to guarantee you warranty on the bike all the parts for 2 years or the extended warranty. Sadly a lot of times the dealer eats the cost to make it right with the customer if something happens. A dealer will make the repairs and send it to Harley, it may get denied and the customer never knows about it. That's what a good dealer does in a lot of cases.

@@kellyhalteman4439 To be clear. I don't have a warranty claim, or a problem with my dealer. In reading through the HD warranty it was unclear as to whether or not having a dealer install the Stage 2 kit would absolutely be covered under the HD warranty. The answer is "No"......Unless you have the dealer install the kit within 60 days of purchasing the motorcycle, any upgrades are not absolutely covered under the HD warranty. Example......If the dealer installed the Stage 2 kit and later an engine problem developed, if HD determines the cause of the failure was attributed to the installation of the Stage 2 kit, outside of the 60 day window, then HD could, potentially deny the warranty claim to repair the engine........That is straight from a HD customer service rep at HD's corporate office in Milwaukee.

@@paulg5835 I think If you ride enough before the cam change, you'll notice it more. I had less than 700 miles on but yes, I did notice the difference. I rarely downshift to pass someone unless I'm under probably 1600 rpm in any gear. My gas mileage was only affected for a few rides..I liked snapping throttle and feeling the extra torque. I still like the feel, I just don't play with it as much. Gas mileage hasn't really changed much for me. Love the loping sound better than before the cam change. There's a difference and I love it! Cost was around $1100 @ HD. Peace of mind all under warranty. That all helped me make my decision a bit easier. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I have the extended warrantee on my M8 107 FXLR. I went with the dealer installed SE Torque cam, the hiflow metal intake manifold and auto tuner with the large oxygen sensors after I did the Stage 1 with the hiflow intake filter and SE Street Cannons. Ended up with 97.16 HP and 104.98 Torque. That was a bit disappointing but what surprised me was the Torque graph. It was about 95 at the bottom end and 85 at the top end with peak (104.98) at about 3400 rpm. That was pretty flat across the dyno graph!

Have a 2018 FLTRU which I bought new. Put in a stage 2 with "power cam" at 12,000 kilometers (7,500 miles) also have SE slip-ons and tuned with SE pro street tuner. I ride around 2800 to 3200rpm 90% of the time, It's seen 6200 rpm numerous times and from 4000 rpm on up you know where "Screaming Eagle" came from, unbelievable. I can go 260 miles to a tank, looking for gas at 250, lol. so about 43-45 mpg. (I have got 50 mpg when steady interstate driving all day) I ride 95% highway miles so didn't need the torque cam for block to block dashes. Haven't had any issues with the bike mechanically wise, did have the oil pump kit put in with the cam upgrade, no sumping issues, very little blow by (you could hardly see the misty substance in the breather) but I put a Trask M8 transmission cover this spring so we'll see if that makes any difference. Bike has 87,000kms/54,000 miles on it. Love it forgot to say I had the cat taken out also.

I have. ‘19 rgs 114. I went with the power cam. It has a shit ton of power and tq from idle to redline. It’s pretty fast for a Harley. I ride mostly two up. I debated heavily with the tq cam. Why I choose the power cam over the tq cam is the M8 seemed to fall flat around 3500 rpm. So the goal was to even out the power band without sacrificing too much low end. Seat of the pants, I didn’t lose anything on the low end. In fact I gained low end as well as it pulls hard to redline.

I may just do the power cam since for my new experience the Ultra has a bit too much torque as it is, and scary if you make a throttle mistake at low speeds! Well the only graph out there in all cams I've seen start higher torque than stock, except the SE which , at least on the graph is lower tan stock. Since my main reason (well sound too) is passing power and I don';t mind downshifting at all it seems the Power Cam is what is at! Saw the cam video GixxerFoo has and did contact Customer cycle Rama, their 470 they have it as "coming in" at 2800 rpm, but I can't see any graph what is the starting torque right after idle which is my concern!

Just picked up my brand new 23’ heritage 114 with the stage 2 power cam and 2-1 rinehart. I wasn’t worried about the numbers or needing to shift on the highway to pass, I was more concerned about how badly I needed to dog it by staying close to the mid range for break-in. I am absolute FLOORED by how much get up and go this bike has compared to the stock one I test rode. Perhaps for lots of 2up, get the TQ cam. But considering I’ve maybe broke 3k rpm’s after the short first 35 miles I rode today, I can’t even imagine what this thing is gonna feel like and how it’s going to sound when I can start opening it up

I personally prefer the torque cam for the fact that the top end it really doesn't give up much to the power cam at all. But it absolutely stomps the power cam in the low and mid range where you're typically going to spend most of your time riding on the street.

The stage 3 is a great setup to with, it's a lot cheaper than the stage 4 and the 4 valve heads of teh M8 perform really well. The Stage 3 adds quite a bit to the bike in the RPM range you ride in, stage 4 adds more in that rpm range but cost a lot more. They do have a fix now for the sumping issue you mentioned, if you have it done at the dealer they should fix that for you while they are in the motor.

According to Dyno records, the best cam from HD is the Torque cam. The power cam drops too much low end, but doesnt trade enough high end. IT only works for stage 4 builds. SE447 comes on early, and carries almost the whole way through, with a smart tune pro SE tuner setup. If im going for a cam upgrade though, I wouldnt go with the HD cam, simply because there's more power per dollar in aftermarket cams, and aftermarket tuners. Also if you're going to do a Cam upgrade, you need a high capasity cam Bearing, and new Lifters(Tappets). ALWAYS use brand new tappets when you put in a new cam. The tappets and Cam need to break in together.

Oh yeah no doubt aftermarket is the way to go unless your concerned about keeping your warranty. I agree with on the tappets, I've heard both ways on just swapping cam or swapping tappets and cam. Personally I would change the tappets with the cam.

I have a well trusted service writer who was part of my other builds with a 2 into 1 exhaust he said 101 hp 120 tq with the SE torque cam with the Roadglide S I now have the stretched bags with a single pipe looks bad on a standard it’s fine I ran a pro pipe on my last build LOUD so I did a vance & Hines power dual knowing I was leaving some tennies on the table but it’s a good looking system sounds like a vtwin and runs really nice I think the whole thing was just under 4000. For 20 hp ok in today’s world the pro street tuner with smart tune was 500. But no DYNO needed I might after the warranty but at 63 really nice runner instant power, smooth quiet

@@GixxerFoo I nixed the H-D Stage II and the V&H exhaust. Decided to go for a Fuel Moto Stage III with a Wood 22X-E cam and Jackpot pipes. Since it will void the warranty I had to upgrade a whole bunch of stuff on the motor, which inflated the price. Many parts may be overkill, but I wouldn't want to risk an engine rebuild on my own dollar, so pretty much the whole top end of the engine, and the primary are getting replaced. I'm only leaving the heads, valves, crank, and gearbox stock. Everything else gets an upgrade. Lots of Feuling & S&S parts with a Dark Horse comp, Barnett clutch, and Dynojet tuning. Expected numbers are between 140-150 ft lb and 130-140 hp.

Okay so my bike did have a sumping problem and the motor basically grenaded before and after they put a new motor in I ran/ run a torque cam to keep the warranty kosher I have slim line duals pipes and SE air breather se tuner and hd smart tuner, I had it dynoed at Sturgis last year and came up with 85 horsepower 110 foot pounds of torque. Now my warranty is over I'm going to go with the redshift and hopefully get my hundred horsepower that I've wanted. I'm not sure how much difference there will be but I've already bought the redshift cam next purchase will be the S&S cam plate and pump. I do really like the torque cam but it sounds like the 468 is going to be much better and I'm doing that oil pump and cam plate just knowing that it's a better setup for peace of mind because I can't afford to replace a motor.

Oh, you'll notice a difference. That RS468 is a beast of a torque cam. Sure, your HP will break the 100 barrier, but your torque will break the 120. You can't really go wrong either way; both are a substantial upgrade from stock and it would honestly probably be pretty hard to tell them apart by the seat of your pants. If I were riding back up in Portland where traffic moves at 55-60MPH, then it'd be torque cam all day every day. Down here in Phoenix, however, I feel like I'd actually lean toward the power cam. Traffic moves around 80 on city highways and 90+ on interstates. At those speeds on a 107, the torque cam will be starting to fall asleep and the power cam will just be waking up. Since I don't have any problems with how even a stock M8 makes power down low, I feel like having some extra breath while cruising so I can get around the knuckleheads down here would be more beneficial. Just depends on where you need power, I guess!

It's a lot cheaper and quicker than disassembly of the rocker box, which require removing the tank. That's a lot of labor that adds up pretty quick, but just cutting the solid push rods and going back with adjustable push rods gets you back on the road very quickly and efficiently.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the OEM and the screamin eagle mufflers are not "catalized", but the cat is at the head pipe. And bad idea to only change the cam..that POS hd cam bearing should always be replaced with a quality bearing...i did and was my first major mod on a bike, also added the Se-447 torque cam, and also added the S&S cam plate & oil pump, cnc lifter cuffs, wood's lifters, and quickie push rods with a Power Vision tuner and custom tune..my first ride felt as I gained at least 12- 15hp, and 15lbs of torque..and was better behaved than stock at take off..only very slightly more noticeable valve train noise in my 2020 Road King..tomorrow I'll be able to check fuel mileage differences and high rpm and high speed mannors..but it seems totally happy with my existing catless head pipes and Vance & Hines 4.5 Titans and HD Breakout air box up to 75+ thus far. Exhaust with baffles installed is not annoying loud either. I also have a Wood's 22XE cam here to use, but I'm glad I choose to install the Se-447 instead..seems easy to tune, lots of predictable power off idle, feeling just as the published torque curve shape show's. Couldn't be happier thus far. I'll save the Wood's 22XE for my Street Glide stage 2 project coming up. From what I seen, the 22XE is great for both Torque and power gains too..also running on up about an extra 500-1k rpms over the Se-447 but might be more radical, and less mild on the valve springs (than the SE-447)..my remmendation is if you ride under 100mph, go the Wood's 22x or Se-447 with Power Vision, if you plan to take it past 100mph, go Wood's 22EX or comparable
@GixxerFoo

Only the touring bikes have the cat in the head pipe, everything else is in the mufflers. Now SE slip ons for touring bikes don't have cats, you get a full SE system and those mufflers do have the cats in them. The full SE system does eliminate the cat from the head pipe.

Just out of curiosity, how much do these changes cost per Ft-Lb and HP? Also what's the effect on mileage? Does it run hotter so as to require added cooling?
@GixxerFoo
@GixxerFoo 4 жыл бұрын
Cost really depends on the dealer and their labor rate, if you do it at a dealer. From comments and my local dealer, cost average is $1200 and that is very high. Mileage should improve, but that's all dependenat on riding habits. If you're easy on the throttle it will take less throttle to produce the same amount of power you get with a stock cam. Now of you're wide open, no mileage just fun. With the M8 and it's stock oil cooler, a proper tune which adds more fuel, it would cool the bike down.

I believe it would depend on intake, exhaust, cam, ect. Also, was the engine broke in properly or did they do burnouts in dealer parking lot? Once they figure out the rings didn't seal in , blow-by, sumping issues, you get the picture. Then sell it at a premium as "low miles". Buyer beware!!

You'll really appreciate that torque cam, especially where you're riding! I think you made a great choice, that torque cam gives up nothing to the power cam especially down low. @GixxerFoo I noticed that on the Harley cams they do not include an inner camshaft bearing like every other camshaft manufacturer. Is it because the Harley cams are not as radical as the aftermarket or is it because Harley Parts match up with Harley parts and the aftermarket cams want to make sure their cams are matched up with their bearings? I also noticed that I cant find an upgraded Screaming Eagle bearing for the M8 like you used to for the Twin Cam. Anyways I bought the Torque Cam kit for my 2017 Limited and am waiting for the time to install it and find out if a new inner cam bearing is required ?

Good question, it looks like the bearings don't come with the Stage 2 Kits on the M8. It shows it on the break down with the installation instructions and lists it as a service to part to be replaced if needed. I wouldn't chance it putting in a new cam with a used and go ahead and put some fresh bearing in.
