I literally just did this today based on your video. Worked like a charm, and didn't even have to buy a tool. THANK YOU!!😃

Definitely a lot better than the old design Clutch Fan hold tool 👍🏼👍🏼

Agree, Raul. The fan clutch holding tool we used has multiple applications. Very useful.

Great video! I’m trying to torque one on a 2014 Hyundai Accent. Do you have a source for that tool you used or know what it’s called to purchase something similar. Also is there supposed to be a washer for the main bolt for the crank pulley to keep it locked in place so it does come undone.
@frugaldiy12 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Kevin. Borrow the holding tool from a local auto parts store or purchase a tool off Amazon. It's called either Universal Camshaft and Camshaft Pulley Holding Tool: amzn.to/3Demzb3 or Universal Pulley Holder Wrench WITH Interchangeable Pins: amzn.to/3o1d3Uf I'd buy the pulley holder that comes with the interchangeable pins so you don't have to try to find bolts that fit. No, mine did not have a washer.

Doesn't adding an adapter mess up the torque spec?
@ratpatootie86239 ай бұрын
The bolts that were bent in the process like that also tells me it’s not torqued to “spec”.

What car is this on. I need to torque my crankshaft pulley on my 2015 buick verano but can't find shit on it
@jacobbutler98752 жыл бұрын
Will it work for 220 ft lbs for my crankshaft? I also have threads into my pulley for my bolts so I’m concerned if my threads can withstand the pressure from the crankshaft bolt. I do not have an impact gun but I’m looking for alternatives. Thanks.
@frugaldiy12 жыл бұрын
Jacob, I can't answer that with any certainty. The bolt on my car was suppose to be torqued at 80 pounds, but some lunatic waaaaay over-torqued it so we couldn't get it off even with electric and pneumatic impacts. AutoZone rents out all sorts of tools. Ask them if they rent out an impact.
@maxb23382 жыл бұрын
Can you use the tool to remove the crankshaft bolt?
@frugaldiy12 жыл бұрын
You can try it, Max, but I don't know if it will work. Depends on how tight the bolt is torqued. We tried to, but someone had way over torqued the crankshaft bolt on my car, and we couldn't budge it. Not even with impact wrenches--electric and pneumatic. Be careful with impact wrenches. If you go at it too much, you can round off the shoulders of the bolt and then you're in a bit of trouble you don't want. We had to bump start the engine to loosen the bolt. Worked like a charm! I have a video on how we did it, if you'd like to watch it. Here's the title of the video, "Loosen Crankshaft Pulley Bolt by Bump Starting the Engine | Loosen Harmonic Balancer Bolt." Search in my videos, and you'll find it. Let me know if you need anything else.

This tool should work to remove but you will need a long breaker bar probably. Or use the starter method seems to be popular as was said above.

Did you buy the tool or rent it from a auto part store? That would help as you showed us how to set it up.
@frugaldiy12 жыл бұрын
I rented it from AutoZone. But, you have to supply your own screws/pins I put a link in the description area of the video to a similar tool on Amazon that AutoZone used to rent out but no longer does. That tool includes the several pins for different applications. That is the tool I would use.

@@frugaldiy1 I been looking around here on KZbin and people have done all sorts of things. From going to a machine shop and having them make something out of flat stock with of course them drilling a hole for access to the bolt itself then having also access to the holes that are used for the puller tool. I watch your video I am just scared of shearing off one of those screws inside the small holes as your bent.
@frugaldiy12 жыл бұрын
Saleen, I understand your concern regrading the bolts shearing off. But, it was only 80 ft. lbs torque so we concerned. Yes, you can make a tool out of flat stock or angle iron or a 2x4 or any number of materials.
@saleenmustang97932 жыл бұрын
@@frugaldiy1 I have a 96 Ford f150 my Chilton manual said about 150ft lbs. I was going to try the 2x6 method bc I could have more length to prop it against my chassis frame that my bumper attaches to. I wasn't ruling your idea out though, only problem I would have is the tool not being long enough to put against something. I have a little bit bigger diameter holes on my balancer 3 to be exact that I used to pull it off to install my new harmonic balancer.
@frugaldiy12 жыл бұрын
Saleen, my car is a 1995 Camry and the torque spec is 80 ft. lbs. I'd recommend yuo torque it to the manufacture's spec. Re length of tool, maybe you can add some EMT metal pipe to it to lengthen it.
