Our lifetime worth of TOOL RANKINGS are updated every week: torquetestchan...
DeWALT Atomic here: amzn.to/3sw0tkI
Today we test two secret little guys with FLEX written on the outside of them. Are they FLEX's new compact impact wrenches? Who knows for sure, but it's not our jobs to wear the suits and return emails to the big guys, so frankly not sure we care! They look like impacts os let's test 'em vs DeWALT DCF921 Atomic and Milwaukee Gen 3.

As always, the creator of this channel works in product development for Astro Tools, who also make impact wrenches (air), always consider multiple sources when looking at a tool!

Someday, in the distant future, there will be portable tools in the kilovolt class. The mind- (and arm-) bending torque may require entirely new metallurgy for fasteners, and three or more burly men to control. The TTC will by then have become the dominant force in all entertainment, and stadiums will have been converted to torque-dueling arenas, with graphs' y-axes now reaching into tens or even hundreds of kilofoot-pounds (pound-feet having been banned by popular vote). It will be glorious.

I know in an auto shop weight doesn't matter much. I spent my life working in the hvac trade, all my tools have to be carried to the chiller, boiler, cooling tower, etc that I am working on. Which is usually not very close to were I park. So power per pound would be of interest to me.
@jinxtacy
@jinxtacy 9 ай бұрын
I would disagree and say weight does matter in an automotive shop. I mostly concerned with operation though and the initial kick. I'm slightly curious as to what feels better because if you look at some of these tools they ramp so hard which is nice if it gets the fastener off, but I wonder about if it doesn't, how much force is transferred into the user? Maybe the ones with a slightly softer start but then ramps up feel better but I'm really not sure. As far as what you're looking for, all the data is there you just have to divide whichever metric interests you by the weight of that model. Unfortunately, you're not investing into a tool unless you have a consistent workload. They have a few videos on brands like DeWalt and Milwaukee and how much power you need to do certain jobs in their opinion. It seems these days you have to look at the EU for leadership and they seem to invest heavily into worker health and creating standards and determinations on damaging things to workers health in professional environments. It's never really bad to look out for yourself long term. I would say in automotive a lot of times. It's the toll that actually fits that gets used but if there was a choice to have a little bit more weight that lessens the strain on the user it could be worth it as long as the weight isn't what's causing damage either.

if only there was a kobalt 24v adapter to go use the batteries on flex tools. I want to try some out and use them. Not enthused about having to buy practically the same battery in a new molding while costing a fair bit more though lol. Great vid as always. Video idea for testing pressure washers would be awesome. so many claims of psi and other units of measure yet no validation, especially with the spree of cordless ones that have come out. Comparing against, corded, gas and cordless is something that I and hopefully others would be included to see.

I'm so glad you brought attention to the size of their batteries. A tool isn't really compact if there's a huge battery hanging off the end. There really isn't an excuse with the lithium pouch battery. They need at least one compact battery like Dewalt's small powerstack. If you ask me this should be a priority for them. I have their quick eject impact driver, it's still brand new, never used it. There's just way more lighter/smaller (battery) options out there.

Great video. I would not trade the DCF923B that I picked up last month for either of these even if I got a stack of free batteries and a charger to go with the flex. I love the hard hits of the DeWalt which let you control how tight you can get a fastener with the Precision Wrench setting if you do not want to wreck the piece you are repairing. The smaller impact drivers just does not have that kind of control like the DCF923B. It is a game changer for me.

How is the dewalt fastener mode though? On videos i have seen on milwaukee vs dewalt, the milwaukee fastener mode looked superior to me, on tightening mode, stopping at lower torque rating, and staying stopped with trigger held. Where the dewalt would initially stop at higher torque, but after a sec or 2 if you still had trigger pulled, it would start tightening more. I like dewalt price and power, but wish it had the milwaukee fastener mode.

@dancearoundtheworld5360 a long neck ratchet would be nice for sure. I find the ratchet they have to be unusable for a lot of jobs due to the size of the body with the short neck. I did find the Skil 12v ratchet to be a good size to fit in more places. I picked it up a couple years ago for ~$100 for the kit. It's actually my go to. I pick it over the kobalt or milwaukee most of the time. The milwaukee isn't a bad tool so don't flame me,I just like the extra hand space of the skil, I don't have to grip the battery on it like I do the milwaukee. I did buy 4 Flex power tools, and so far, every tool and battery has performed perfectly. One thing about Milwaukee; I've had 4 Milwaukee tools fail, electronically. The Milwaukee M18 tools cannot be considered as a highly reliable tool. I own 10 or so different M18 tools, and 2 of the models have died on a consistent basis, and I'm a very careful user. That's a 20% failure rate. Both of my M18 impacts died after only 1 year of normal use, indoors only, and never left in the rain ever--due to electronic speed control failure. Both of my M18 round canister vacuums failed electronically, after ONLY using them to pickup cat hair indoors (I had to remove the digital speed controller and voltage regulator and shunt the motor directly to the battery to make them work again). In both cases, I went and bought a new model, only to have the new model fail exactly the same way. I've not heard of Flex (or Hercules) having the same reliability issues. Overheating and stopping momentarily is totally fine. Failing permanently from normal humidity and moisture is not ok. The Milwaukee tools don't overheat, but they certainly fail routinely, which appears to be a problem with their electronics being more fragile than some of the other brands. M18 tools are a good value, for their performance, but they are not as reliable as the old brushed power tools.

Not in any mobile application so it's pointless compared to pneumatic tools which are self-cooling in operation. A pump, pack and radiator are too bulky and a finned Peltier cooler would be bulky and devour amps. Not everything needs to be electric and people needing what air does buy pneumatics, I use epicyclic manual torque multipliers, corded, cordless and pneumatic tools as suits the job. (BTW driving pneumatics for short periods off CO2 cylinders works nicely and you can use the same vapor withdrawal CO2 cylinders for wire welding and rapid tire inflation in the field like many off-roaders do.) The solultion is not just more beans but variety of beans.

Another great video. I have a Skill 1/2 inch and 3/8 inch. I like them very much. Removes everything I've asked them to do. I do like the halo lights much better than the light on my DeWalt .

nice looking impact wrench, but getting hot isn't good. me and my son use the dewalt atomic a lot this past year, no issues at all. just the power stack 1.7 not great on run time, need a 3 amp range powerstack. thanks for the video

1.) Flex has the best circular saws on the market (in the category of cordless saws, under $400). Makita, and Festool are good, but too expensive. 2.) The Flex circular saws have better quality control, are aligned perfectly, have a bolted foot plate (not permanently riveted) and a smoother sounding motor than the M18 saws, and have a heavy cast (not thin stamped aluminum like the Dewalt) foot plate. Overall the Flex circular saws are as good as the Makita flagship 40V model which costs $250 more. 3.) Flex drills, impacts, and saws, are all quieter than M18 Milwaukee tools. For some reason M18 tools have a loud "scream" to the motor which is actually very fatiguing. 4.) Flex ergonomics are excellent (like Dewalt and Milwaukee M18 tools). M12 Milwaukee tools have a very poor form factor, unless you're directly descended from Vikings. 5.) I've had 2 Milwaukee M18 impact drivers, and two M18 vacuums fail electronically, while only being used and stored indoors, and never exposed to rain. 6.) I purchased two M18 flagship circular saws (model 2732) and both saws were misaligned by 0.030" out of the box, due to a stamping error and were permanently riveted together, preventing modification or adjustment. 7.) I purchased two different Flex circular saws, and both were .000" perfectly aligned out of the box, with bolted on foot plates (not permanently riveted). 8.) Flex customer service is apparently really good, with people having warranty claims honored immediately without questions. 9.) A manager of a Lowes store (they sell the Flex brand) told me that Lowes is actively trying to improve their customer service and tool warranty experience, and they are now offering free replacement tools on all their hand tools that fail, and will be offering substantially improved customer service for returns and product support.

Considering how often they overheat and how hard they're pushed, I wondering if those Flex tools really last. At least I can count on my DeWalt and Milwaukee tools being reliable. Usually. This and that fuse inside is why I stay away from Flex.
