Torre dei Segnali, Lighthouse of Calamosca and Fort of Capo Sant'Elia ~ 5 September 2019 | Sardinia

We explore the promontory of Capo Sant'Elia in Cagliari where we can observe the tower of Calamosca or dei Segnali, the lighthouse of Sant'Elia and the lookout tower dating back to the Second World War.
Torre di Calamosca or dei Segnali
The tower of Calamosca is a historic building in Cagliari, located on the Sant'Elia hill, in the San Bartolomeo area.
The bulk of the tower, with the adjacent lighthouse, dominates the small beach of Calamosca, from which it takes its name. Currently the complex is owned by the Navy.
The original plan of the tower, cylindrical in shape, dates back to 1638, as reported in the tombstone walled outside and bearing the coat of arms of the King of Spain.
Its construction was part of the defensive project of the Spaniards in Sardinia, following which the island had the construction of several coastal towers.
The tower of Calamosca was called torre de armas, due to the powerful cannons that it housed, or even the signal tower, due to the reports sent from it in order to communicate to the Castle of Cagliari possible passage of ships. He played an important role in rejecting the attack of the French fleet in 1793.
In the mid-nineteenth century the original tower was built with the addition of the upper cylindrical body and the nearby lighthouse was erected.
Lighthouse of Sant'Elia
The Sant'Elia lighthouse is located near the Calamosca bay, next to the Torre dei Segnali.
Built in 1850, it was activated in 1860 by the Royal Office of the Civil Engineers and consists of a two-story building surmounted by a cylindrical tower with black and white stripes.
Its optic is of a rotary type and was electrified in 1937 to facilitate the work of the faristi. It has a luminous range of 21 miles.
