Yo, we were at this show and it sounded nothing like this! Something was up with the mixer, it sounds like it was taken directly from the board! Notice in all of the other PFork SXSW videos everyone saying "What is going on with the mix?!?!"

Saw McKensie play this in LA at the Echo last month and she nailed it. The whole show was awesome. Also, this song sounds great on the CD. That said, she and the band do sound a bit off in this take, so I'm just saying give her a chance because this was probably just a one off fuck-up. Or, it could have just been the recording as Hooke Audio mentioned below. I think she's got incredible heart, talent and song writing ability for such a young performer.

Sure, she doesn't have the most "polished" voice ever, but I love how unapologetically raw and emotive her singing style is. The first time that I heard her sing on the recording of "Honey" (a little more than two years ago), it sent shivers up and down my spine. Mackenzie Scott is such a refreshing alternative to so many female artists who feel the need to sound obnoxiously "cute" or "girly."

The mix isn't doing them any favors. Usually, pitchfork's live videos' audio is mixed really really well. This mix is bad though. The music is too quiet and her voice is too loud.

These guys need to work on their sound calibration. I just saw them opening for Garbage at the South Side Ballroom in Dallas and I could barely understand what she was signing just 'cause the sound wasn't properly calibrated. Or at least that's what I thought. Their instruments and melody didn't sound too bad though and their style it's catchy. Like the others in here said, you still need to do some homework.

You guys don't know anything, it's so easy to bash this performance when your ears are actually too spoiled to realize that the band is not responsible for this crappy unbalanced sound (blame the engineer instead). If you're going to criticize, at least know what you're talking about.

Her voice is really flat and unappealing. The rest of the band is hardly doing anything to help. They need to figure out how to get a passable live sound before they play a gig like SXSW. It's a shame because their other stuff isn't bad at all. This show though. This song too. "I'm a sad white girl and christians r the worst"

TapOnWood This is clearly an issue with the mix. And probably her monitor mix as well and she seems to be over singing because of it. Also, listen to the kick drum, its by far the loudest thing in this video. Its a hack mixing job and really takes away from the energy of the song that was likely sounding great in person.

This is what girls sound like when we do,"guy voices"...super flat and harsh and monotone. Trying too hard to seem like they don't care and are original. Just bad.
