"Morphic" actually refers to the SHAPE of the QRS interval. "Poly" refers to the fact that there are DIFFERENCES in these shapes. In a healthy patient the QRS intervals are the same shape and size and are consistent throughout the EKG. In a patient with Torsades de Pointes, the QRS intervals are "polymorphic," meaning they vary in shape and size throughout the EKG, growing larger and smaller with no consistency.

I went through a terrifying ordeal, spent a good long while in the cardiac unit attached to an external pace-maker after developing this from medication. I’ve been put back on this medication, years later... and have had this on my mind more than usual, so I can’t tell you how helpful it is to find this simple explanation of what exactly Toursades de Pointes is! I’m not exactly worried for myself, as I think the proper measures are being taken this time around (very frequent testing, namely) but it can still weigh heavy on a person’s mind after going through what I did back when I was suffering from this. (I was defibrillated more times than I was able to keep count of - and each time was TERRIFYING - coming back around you have no idea what’s happening, while the room is filled with doctors, all over you with your gown ripped open, all in chaos. *shudder*

My daughter was born on October 25th 2019..3 days after she was born we found out she had torsades de pointes. With no family history, or anything structurally wrong with her heart. They placed a pacemaker to regulate her heart rate because when it fell to low it would cause her to go into torsades de pointes. Now at 8 months old. She takes 2.8 ml of Erythromycin.. since then there have been no reaccurance of torsades de pointes. 🤞🙌🙏

you're lucky... most people dont know they have LQTS... until they die suddenly; once its caught; its highly treatable... whenever i hear someone under the age of 60 dying in their sleep this is my 1st suspicion.. That ICD is your best friend If your DR didn't explain a long QT puts you at a very high risk for R on T, which tells the heart to fire when its depolarizing... and it can lead into a potentially deadly arrhythmia called Torsades

In the beginning it is told that in tachycardia (fast heart rate) QT is short, and in slow heart rate QT is long. But in ventricular tachycardia QT is prolonged! How is this to be explained? I have been looking for the answer, but couldn't find.
@Ammar11Feb
@Ammar11Feb 6 жыл бұрын
it's not prolonged in v. tach, she said that you first have long qt then that leads to v. tach, u cant see qt interval in v. tach ecg

I'm telling you: the place where I work is expecting me to be a doctor without the increase of pay. Paramedics make pennies for their pay. People wanted minimum wage to increase to $15/hour. That's $1 more than you make starting out as a Paramedic. You can increase all the way to $18 an hour. After that you have to become a nurse, which I refuse to do.
