I think it would feel unnatural to them both if they sat far apart. Consider how many hours they spend on the practice ice, much more than we see in performance. All of that is in direct physical contact. It is second nature to them now to remain constantly aware of one another's every movement. It was always Chris's responsibility to do the heavy lifting (no offense to Jayne). He knew it was on him to keep her safe. I would be afraid to see the agony on his face if he ever dropped her or cut her with a blade. She did fall once. They were testing out a new maneuver and their calculations were off. She was in the air and his body had moved past hers. She landed hard, happily without damage. Also, an interview on camera is just another performance for them. That is part of their work and they remain glued together on the job. Torvill and Dean is not just two separate people it is a distinct entity on its own.
