In 1984, there was no KZbin. I saw this Paso Doble and the Bolero once or twice on TV in Australia. But both ice dances stayed with me though I "forgot" about them - if you know what I mean. But several years ago, I remembered to search for both of these ice skates on youtube and on my! They were and still are magnificent skates - to a non skater. I can see when people scoff at the technical difficulty when compared with what Virtue and Moir or Davis and White are required to do. But there is something pure, something genius about what Torvill and Dean did in these ice dances. Genius doesn't mean that it cannot be improved on. We learn Newtonian laws in high school now. But we can still appreciate the genius of Newton. so if you watch what the other ice skaters were doing in the same year, Torvill and Dean were head and shoulders above the others. Genius.

They were working within a totally different framework of rules to current ice-dancers, so impossible to compare their generation with the current one. But I am 100% certain that, had Jayne and Chris been required to do twizzles, rotational lifts etc (rather than avoiding those elements, as was the requirement back in the 1980's), they would have adapted superbly and worked those rules to their advantage. Cream will always rise to the top. To them see released from the shackles of competition and in full, creative flight you have to look at their professional routines, eg Encounter, Missing and the incomparable Shepherd's Song.

What a wonderful performance. More than 30 years have passed by and I still remember when I saw this amazing couple of ice skaters for the first Time. Great memories of those competitions.

These two ice dancers did their homework on the very basics of ice dancing, with long lines and strong edges, and this is what made them exceptional; they returned every year with New music, New costumes and a New routine while other competitors merely rehashed past performances... hoping to score big... Torvill & Dean will be remembered not only for their perfect scores but that they pushed the sports into new areas which had never ever been tried before, and they made a success of it.... They were the truly all time greats of the sport. Spader Holic you may want to upload their Summertime routine in Copenhagen, which was brilliant... to say the least! Thank you for this - much appreciated!

It's a shame that Christopher Dean's protégés were not treated with the same respect. The Dushenays were brilliant and gave dance performances at the '88 Calgary games that were breathtaking, yet the corrupt judges never gave them their due respect. But history remembers.

Не в первом танце замечаю у них, что партнёр небрежно с партнершей обращается, то впереди неё едет, то бросает, а где-то опирался на неё в прыжке. Нифига не галантно, блин, джентльмен...
