Hi Paul, you certainly earned your money with this repair, if a customer complained about the cost, just show them the video. Very best regards from Ray. North Wales (UK)

Paul yes you are right on that, i have done some of those to and customer didn't want to spend the money to replace the top so time wasted but learned first time to let them know a head of time on the cost. keep the up the good work

Hey that's great of you to contribute like that! I can't even remember doing this video but I suppose it's a good thing I did. Hope you get a finishing win with your repair. Interestingly I've started swinging back in to PC laptop repairs, though more the logic boards than the rest of the machine.

Hi Paul, those integrated keyboards look to be a real pain. Nice job on the repair. Regards, Dave

Please, where can i find the litium battery on this motherboard?
@elmehdisanad73716 жыл бұрын
Wow, that's a very delicate replacement procedure. In fact, I was wondering is it necessary to replace the whole palmrest? Because my keyboard isn't working anymore and I was wondering if I should keep looking for just a keyboard. I'd appreciate your help !

If the keyboards is bonded to the top deck then you’re best buying a whole new top deck from AliExpress rather than trying to replace the old keyboard key assembly. I’ve tried a couple of times and it’s such a big time waste and there’s almost always an imperfection that the owner noticed.

Paul Daniels I haven' t actually openened the laptop, but it's the same model as the one in the video. The problem is, it's too expensive to replace the whole top deck, so I'm seeking the best and less expensive solution. From your experience with this Toshiba, is it possible to replace just the keyboard by dismantling the metallic board underneath it (where the rivets are glued) ?
@xeroeffect57456 жыл бұрын
Holy moly. The amount of work you had to put in for a simple keyboard is astounding. Terrible horrible no good very bad design. Thanks jack. What's the bird in the background Paul? Something exotic?
@pldaniels6 жыл бұрын
What time point do you hear it? Yes, a lot of work, big difference in pricing on these deck replacements compared to the modular keyboard replacements.
@PeptideScienceInstitute6 жыл бұрын
its a result of the devices getting thinner...but rivets...uhhh no fun. at least with the razers its replaceable, no rivets, just about 80 or so screws.
@pldaniels6 жыл бұрын
Definitely a PITA. Last one I tried to do was an ASUS X550, gave up after a couple of days and ate the loss to get a complete replacement topdeck.

Was this a one hour labour charge with this swap out? I assume they were aware of the colour of the new top deck that the replacement was before you ordered it or is the teal colour the protective film over the top deck?
@pldaniels6 жыл бұрын
Yes, about an hour of labour (there were some Windows 10 issues I had to sort out later too). The teal/blue is just a protective layer, but the replacement topdeck is a silver one and the original was a gold-silver, already had checked before I ordered it with the client to ensure they would be content with that.

Anyone else notice the bug around 9:40 ?
@pldaniels6 жыл бұрын
Ants... never ending ants. At least they're better than roaches. I had a laptop come in that was an Ark for them, and they unloaded like Troy invaders overnight. Took me too long to get those under control.
@patrickrodrigue98526 жыл бұрын
Damn, yeah I know what you mean though. Ants can be a real pain in the ass to get rid of. And yes, I also like ants much better than roaches!

I forcedly open one and it was annoying. I found out that I couldn't replace just the keyboard. I bought the keyboard only, but it's no use, because I managed to break every plastic rivets on it. Is there anyone who can tell me, where to buy the whole top deck with the keyboard, please?
@pldaniels6 жыл бұрын
eBay or AliExpress.

this was like a nice fix, do all the work and not have to worry the keyboard every again.good job Sir. also i like the Pi camera idea, from what i hear the Raspberry Pi Zero with a good camera should be perfect.

PZ might do the trick, I've got a couple of Pi2 units that are just rotting now after I moved to the Pi3B (sadly buying it just the other week and not realising P3B+ was about to arrive)

Thanks for the video, I had to replace the keyboard on this model and it's a pain - but doable. You need to cut off all those little white plastic moulds holding down that metal plate , then cut off the ones for the keyboard - though I kept the top row - that gave it something to slot back in to and then I glued (yup!) where to moulds were - I tried my glue gun but it was broken ... Not sure I'd recommend that method but I'm happy with it. Anyway PITA laptop :)
@pldaniels6 жыл бұрын
I've tried a few times with a few different models, including the ASUS X550 series... in the end, it's always my sanity that wins when I buy the complete deck instead.
@zx8401ztv6 жыл бұрын
I suppose it's ok to have it with a keyboard+case like that, it makes it look new again. But otherwise it's just nasty junk and not fun to fix, don't i turn nasty fast lol :-D. I've had some old lappys donated to me, the toshiba satalite L350 one from 2008 is a good old beast.
@pldaniels6 жыл бұрын
Probably simpler/cheaper for them in the end. There's some innovative/cheap options I've seen for keyboards to still give a fairly seamless integration. Oh well, at least it's not out of my pocket, but it definitely is a bit longer than the typical 10 minute end-to-end fix :(
