I still have this laptop from 2015 or so. Great product.

I am using a Toshiba laptop now. Might not be the best model but It's a 2009 model and over time it's been great until last year and this year. It's been very slow and nonresponsive to my daily tasks. from document making to multiple browser tabs. It has a bezel crack now but considering it survived 6years of closing and opening the lid, I'd still say Toshiba has great quality. Now I'm in search for new laptops with those mid to high end specs. Currently looking at the Dell Inspiron 14" 7447 Pandora with an i7-4710HQ and GTX 850M (cheapest one with high specs but I doubt the brand so I searched for more.) Comparing it with the same specs of the Asus N551JK And I also found a premium Acer V 15 Nitro Black Edition sporting a higher GTX 860M taking me up the price ladder. I'm asking the community of laptop users if you have your personal experiences with these brands (Asus, Dell, Acer) whether they served you good or their materials were absolutely cheap and broke down within 2 years or so.. because I am planning to keep this laptop for around 4years for college. I was interested in this Toshiba model but I'd say I'd get a 15" model or lower like others. I hope you can share your experiences so I may have a headstart to know the manufacturer's background on customers. Thanks!

Hi Damir Thanks for the common sense review. I have an older Toshiba Satellite P870/027 with Blu-ray burner with an older CPU and a 2GB Nvidia GT 630m Graphics card, however I swear by this product for stability and Toshiba's fantastic extended warranty (3years). Toshiba seem to be getting the idea that many people want a laptop with virtually a computer desktop standard. I play a lot of high end games like COH 2, Starpoint Gemini 2 and Galactic Civilizations 3 etc and plugged in through HDMI to a 50' Sony screen. These games really put the heat on the CPU. I had to buy a laptop cooler high end pad from coolmaster to keep the Laptop cool, at least something with a huge fan. I am assuming Toshiba haven't foreseen the problem with airing at the bottom of the laptop, so there is just a small rounded breather for the main board and a scope type setup for the graphics card on the side. I live in a tropical area in Australia so the cooler was an essential. LOL, also I bought a few small plastic ice packs that I sit to the right of the mouse pad to keep the CPU and graphics cool. NO TV TUNER in the P70-B097????? NO BLU-RAY Burner?????? First thing I did when I bought the laptop was remove the 2 HDD's, (Yes great part about this model 17.3" is that it has 2 HDD slots). I spoke to Toshiba staff about this and they agreed it doesn't void warranty by changing out the mechanical drives for SSD's. I put in a 256GB and 512 GB OCZ Vertex 4 SSD's which BTW the company is owned by Toshiba. Swapping out the mechanical HDD's was the best thing anyone can do to make a laptop a brilliant machine to use. I have to say I am a bit disappointed with Toshiba as all they have done is refined the hardware and not the actual way the system should be ventilated for cooling purposes. For the price of $1700 in Australia and the lack of a Blu-ray burner and TV Tuner ( which BTW I paid the same price for the P870-027 in 2012). My conclusion is that Toshiba are selling the consumer short on this product.

I have the same laptop, the problem started a few months ago. Recently i had to erase everything in the hardisk, including the Toshiba Recovery partition (it wasn't working anyway) and installed Windows 10 Pro. Now the laptop only uses the Intel HD 4600 graphics card. The device manager shows randomly the AMD gpu ("show hidden devices" enabled) and, when it does, it is disabled by Windows because, according to the OS, it is "causing problems". The weirdest thing is, also recently, when i start Windows, sometimes the network adapter gets disabled (obviously loosing my internet connection) and when this happens the AMD gpu gets enabled It's as if there is some kind of a conflict between these two components... I already tried clean installations of the most recent graphics card drivers for the Intel and the AMD, also the original manufacturer ones after a clean Windows 10 installation. Also tried 7 and 8 Windows. Also i've tried to update bios but it has the latest version. The bios is the UEFI version, so don't have switchable graphics option... Am i missing something? I've seen hundreds of people with similar problem reporting and none of them gave a final solution for this. The technicians says that may the graphic card fried or malfunction and need to be replaced...i won't fall for that because i've seen people having the same problem and the laptop was recently new. So i believe it's something else. When i choose "show hidden devices" it's there but in ''ghost'' mode... I've tried booting linux through usb also in the terminal doesn't show the gpu... Thank you in advance for any help. I'm starting to have a headache trying to figure this out a long time and no success...

I have P70-B-10U and the only disappointment is Windows 8.1. This is my second Toshiba laptop, my first was L-300, I had it for 7 years. I`m staying with Toshiba.

[later edit] Issue solved! It looks like there was a setting inside windows, and now the startup time got to about 20 seconds (from 2 mins!) Control Panel -> System ->Advanced System Settings -> Startup and Recovery: Settings -> Time to display list of operating systems: set to 5 sec (instead of 30) ........... Can you please say something about the startup time? I mean the time from pressing the power button until the windows loads. I just got this laptop with licensed windows for about 3 days now, and the startup time is almost 2 mins! I noticed you didn't filmed that and i was wondering how long it takes for you or other people. Nice and useful revision by the way :) Thanks!

Still a pity that Toshiba didn't go for a stronger built of the lid. I mean, the P-series is not a budget model. Also, especially for a 17" notebook, TN is a simple no-go for me. Even though it's properly calibrated, you'll notice the difference in viewing angle when you change your sitting position. The Asus N761JK-T-series has an IPS-panel and falls in the same price range... Just no D-Sub (most people who use that, probably use a smaller notebook) and less HDD space, but still a decent 1 TB plus a 256GB SSD which I would prefer anyway, and a little stronger GPU with a GTX850M as well (even though the video-output is supposed to be of worse quality). Btw, I really like 17" notebooks. I allows you to have a decently sized screen with still a moderately sized form factor. Ideal for somewhere in the living room. For me anyway.

Hi, great in depth review. Just wondering what are your thoughts on the P70-B097 model and the P50-C002 model, im trying to make my mind up on either. Just on the Toshiba Australia webpage. Both around the $1700 Australian. Both i7, both 16GB RAM, good enough storage for my liking, good graphics for me but P70 is a 17" FHD WS 300nit and the P50 is a 15" FHD IPS 300nit.

Bought one. Two weeks later started freezing completely and the only way to solve the problem was to hold the power button which lead to startup and HDD problems. I found out it was a GPU problem because when I deactivated it the pc ran just fine but of course nowhere near it's full capacity because the main graphics card was not being used. Still with the GPU deactivated it ran at super high temps, like I just turned it on and did nothing and it was already running at 60-70 degrees celsius and the fans were so loud it was actually embarassing in public places. It's now been taken back to warranty and my guess is the GPU is fried because the AMD drivers won't even install properly, like the GPU is not even there. I hope they fix it for good. Never buying Toshiba again in my life. This has a shitty chassis that doesn't allow it to breathe properly and Toshiba uses little to no thermal paste on the components to save money. Should have gone with MSI as I was going to before buying this POS.
