When you press the on/off button, it brings the ground to the 3.3volt line. The resistor you shorted out was there to limit current (pull up). So while it sort of fixed the issue. I think it makes more sense to replace that resistor. It's probably like 2.20K or so. Just me I guess. But I do so enjoy your videos as they are more down to earth of what the real repair world looks like! Thank you!

I am grateful for your honesty. It should be a good lesson for anyone. ANYTHING stored on a laptop or pc directly will just be the BIOS on the CMOS chip in any sense of software. This means there can be several reasons to destroy something like that, pure malice, scam etc. The fact that you are honest is something we are seeing less of today, we can see this lack of honesty being reflected in the news. Mistakes are mistakes and are forgiveable. I am sure there are many watching this to the end who will agree when I say, mistakes are mistakes and there is nothing wrong with that. It also is down to your morals and ethicsa as you were paid to do that job, no questions asked and it is NOT obligatory for the owner to disclose why. You were NOT paid to ask why, just to do it if you could. It would be however for anyone to explain to a customer or anyone that NOTHING is stored on a laptop in that way and can be removed, i.e. the SSD or HDD etc. and so is a waste of time, and if asking, it raises suspicions of some form of criminal activity. This then negates not needing to know as you can discern what the intention is. A lesson learned is a lesson shared, as they say. What to discern and that honesty goes a long way. Do not be disheartened by it but rather use it as a lesson that can identify potential malice or dishonesty on the part of the owner. Even the best can make mistakes. So remember, there is some good in that video also.

Hey Sorin. The solder does not bridge because there is probably too much flux (colophan). When I use a soldering iron on SMD without flux, I guarantee a bridge .... ;-)
@fluffyblue4006
@fluffyblue4006 4 жыл бұрын
Instead of trying to build a bridge from solder, it would have been much easier to just use that deleted resistor as your bridge. But yea, when your boss gives you bad solder, then it's good to use it up as fast as possible. Maybe he'll realize that quality solder will enable you to work faster while using less.
@PaulHigginbothamSr
@PaulHigginbothamSr 3 жыл бұрын
Can tell you Sorin why the solder ran away from your tip. Twas not because of your tip but because of the power being on. You thought the power was off, but because the solder moved away from itself I was pretty certain that the miniscus of the surface tension was removed in the solder blob once it was melted so it moved apart. LOUIS Rossman in New Yawk would have had 3 wires attached in the length of time you puttered mit dat vun. You see I did not understand your hesitancy to use a tiny wire. I could not grok that.

I think the same about the stupidity of car breaker industry. Many times, some cars are in impeccable state, its only done for political and greedy reasons. They waste energy to destroy something that took a lot of energy and resources to build, and that could be used much longer and prevent new ones from being built. And now with electrics it will be even worse. We could have a much cleaner and honest society if goods were well maintained as long as possible and not comply to stupid politics and planned obsolescence. Thanks for the vids, Sorin.

I have a Toshiba Tecra Z50 A among others. When I plug it in or try to start if off the battery, I get a blinking power light and that's all. It blinks 5 shorts-one long and then two shorts. Nothing happens when I push the power button. It's been doing this for 3 months and it took me til yesterday to figure out how to by-pass it. If I hold the power button down till the light stops blinking, wait one minute then push power it will boot up. Sometimes I have to do it a couple or three times to get it to boot. Once booted up it works perfect. I have tested both the main battery and the RTC battery. Both are fine. I had tried similar tactics before by disconnecting the RTC battery and holding the power button down for one minute. That never worked after numerous attempts. Any idea what may be going bad?

@@lets_just_say_im_innocent Yes, I did.As before it will work fine for a few days or weeks then suddenly won't start and get the blinking light. I has never shut down randomly. As long as it is on it's fine. It has no apps on it, only a clean install of Windows Pro. It originally had Win 8.1 Pro. I did the upgrade when it was free. Later, I erased the SSD and installed a clean Windoes 10. Every time it won't boot, it gets the same flashing light as before.

When one is carefully trying to NOT make a bridge, one inevitably appears. When you WANT to make a bridge...ROHS compliant solder? Lead is still the best.
@johnbos4637
@johnbos4637 3 жыл бұрын
Actually lead-free (i.e. rohs-compliant) will make a bridge easier because it needs more heat to melt it so it will solidify faster so easier to make a bridge. But that was silly, he should have just added a wire, 5 second job took 6 minutes 30 seconds LOL
