At about the 43:55 mark when he's describing the lydian sound you get by playing a half step down A# minor pentatonic scale..I;m a little confused. You are not playing the B note or the F# note then in that scale and isn't that what would really make it lydian???

Can somebody explain at 43:00 when he speaks of relative majors? He says that if you're in B Dorian, then you can play D major. I don't understand the relative major concept of modes (besides Ionian).

Dystopiajin I guess he wanted to say B Eolian, because it would be more didactic, then it would easily fit in your (and mine) conception of relative major/minor. But it still works when he says B Dorian because we will still have a D major chord, in this case it will be the D on Lydian mode. In conclusion, B Dorian and D Lydian is still a minor third away, just like a B Eolian and D Ionian, the common relative major/minor that we all know. Hope I could help.
