This is a great set up But I remember reading something by David Hoy, who used a one way forcing deck, and had only 3 spectators peek at a card, and named 3 different cards one of course the forced card, and would say if I named your card please sit down. Of course they all sat down.

I totally disagree, the 5 cards or red/black, hi/low, picture card or number card works wonderfully.

I think you DO NOT ask them to sit down the minute they heard their card. you ask everyone to sit down TOGETHER if they heard their card. That way they may all have had the same card and if they heard theirs they can sit down. You never actually ask someone to name their card, just to sit down.

Agree with Sammi. I perform this effect with only four participants. At the reveal, all participants are standing, facing me as I read their thoughts. I ask them not to react or change their expressions if I name their card so as not to give me any extra information. With "great effort" I only name 4 of the 5 cards in the deck. "If I named your card, will you please sit down?". If everyone sits down, fine, take your applause. If one person remains standing, you can milk a little extra any way you see fit, knowing their card is the fifth-un-named card. If two people remain standing, explain that it got confusing since they had both chosen the same card... then reveal it as you see fit. But I would never pull a prediction card from a wallet. This is a mentalism routine, not a "I knew you'd pick my card" routine. Once I had a participant remain standing all the way to the end. When I asked what their card was, it was a card not in the deck. Smile, admit defeat, "that was a tough one, you got me!" and go on to the next effect.

Agree also with Sammi, I use this normally in a seated show and have all 3 or 4, depending on how many cards you use etc, people peeking at the deck, sometimes I have the deck shuffled prior then switch mainly dont have to do this,they remain standing then the reveal to name the cards is pretty fast and they all sit down at the same time, its a great opener for a company event etc and the effect always plays so strong.

Works better with 3 cards. They are supposed to lift a corner and peek at the card cut to, not riffle thru the deck.
