It is what is it. I was thinking to buy used VW Jetta and avoid going to Dealership. It's little expensive than Toyota/Honda. So I'm like,I will never go to VW Dealership to pay expensive stuff. I will look for other mechanic garage and ask how much is cost to repay. There are two different things. My experience was when I had to ask guy how much is cost to replace front my brake pads and rotors and he told me 220 when I was waiting to let them change my motor oil and filter( Camry LE 2005 ) but when I look at them like they are mopping up the floor/clean up the mess in garage(trying waste my time). I'm like they taking too long to change the oil. So I let em do the job and said to myself the next time I wanted to go to mechanical garage,I will never come here. When I drove somewhere and see other mechanic,I go there and asked how much is cost for brake pads and rotors,165 dollars. Damn! And they replaced it without waste my time.

Oil change cost seems high...at my dealer, I'm usually able to have it done for $69.95 plus tax.

Mary Beth it probably is a bit higher at my dealer compared to other location. At the time it was the most convenient and worth the premium over other locations.

After 3 years and 53 000 km on my 2018 Golf TSI, I've had no maintenance costs other than tire and oil change, like you. I don't go to the dealership for oil changes, as they are pretty expensive (about the equivalent in Canadian $ to what you are paying). My oil changes cost me something like 75 USD. Overall, a very solid car!

@@MikeVT my daughter has a 2015 jetta and no problems at all and I have a 2020 Tiguan SE and absolutely love it and 30 mpg is easy to take too.

Tom Gerencir that’s awesome! We were deciding between the 2019 Tiguan and 2019 RAV4 and ultimately went with the RAV4 due to the deal at the time. The new Tiguans look and drive great.

What about your cracked (defective) tail light? Mine did the exact same thing....

I considered that my own stupidity, but perhaps it's a very fragile part? Odd that it happened to you as well!

So basically, most of your costs were simple DIYs - changing between summer and winter tires, and oil changes? Thats both easier and simler than any ugly Toyota

I didn’t drive it many miles, but yes, I only did the recommended maintenance.
