Yeah, I like Owen, but I think seeing a lot of him can be a bit much. His whole schtick of eating and farting has been done to death. I personally wasn’t too upset that he wasn’t included in S5 because he’s already had his time. I also think Duncan returning was something that didn’t need to materialize in S3. It stands to reason that one of the ongoing problems with the TD writers is that they tend to spread their favorite characters (like Owen, Duncan, etc.) too thin. Instead of focusing on developing characters like Noah and Tyler, they made the decision to have Duncan make it to the final five, yet again.

One of my issues with Courtney this season is that her character was brought in way too late - if the writers wanted Courtney to be in this season, then she should have started from the very beginning like everyone else. This was also the first that Courtney clearly demonstrated that she would be a horrible girlfriend. And if Courtney wants to be with a submissive guy, then why doesn’t she just go steady with someone like Brick? But, apparently, the writers have a fixation of putting a Courtney with people who are her exact opposites.

Respectfully disagree. I don't mind that Courtney was brought in later in this season. She didn't need to in the season from the very beginning like everyone else. The way she returned was more unique and not "like everyone else" which I think, is what the writers were going for. They wanted her to return for another season, but they didn't want her to do so like everyone else. They wanted to put a spin on how Courtney was brought in this season. I don't think the writers are fixated with putting Courtney with people who are opposite to her. And Courtney is so high maintenance, that even if she did end up with Brick, I feel like she would have still been demanding, listing out all of his faults, trying to make him perfect and what not. And sure Brick is submissive, but she probably would have complained about that too.

@@someoneelseishere5964 Well, to each his (or her) own, but I for one didn’t like how she was brought in nearly halfway through the competition. And the fact that she couldn’t be voted off right away, because of questionable reasons, is clear and unmistakable cheating - it’s also criminally unfair to the players that worked hard to survive that deep into the game. Sure, she got the shaft in TDI, but she still doesn’t score any sympathy points with me. If the writers wanted Courtney to be in the season so bad, she should have started from square one like the others - in fact, they should have brought back all 22 contestants from the previous season; 14 characters is WAY too low for a (standard) 26-episode TD season. Honestly, I always thought it would be kind of droll if Courtney and Trent started taking an interest in each other, but I think we can firmly say the writers have tossed Trent aside, and closed off his story arc, on account of mediocre writing. (I mean remember when Trent was a character that you could genuinely relate to in the first season? He wasn’t the best character around, but I don’t know what they were thinking with him in Action.). Anyhoo, I’ve never been heavily hooked into the shipping aspect of the show, but I do think season one handled romance / relationships the best - even Duncney had some adorable moments until their relationship went to the dogs in later seasons. Was never an immense fan of Gwuncan. To me, those two just don’t have a very strong connection - it’s like that relationship where you enjoy the prospect of being with someone more than you actually enjoy being around them. And Scottney felt like a downgrade version of Duncney. One of the reasons that I find Scottney odd is that Scott’s whole schtick in S4 was getting ahead by virtue of sabotaging his own team. And that just seems like the antithesis of Courtney’s competitive nature and drive to win - you would think Courtney would be utterly repulsed by someone like Scott than attracted to him. So, yeah, in my eyes, that relationship grew stale rather quick. All in all, I think one of the reasons Courtney can’t sustain a relationship is that she’s not generally good at making friends - She is unbelievably competitive just like Heather, but Heather won TDWT (at least in the version that I watched) by dint of learning from her past mistakes and growing as a character. Courtney just can’t help but prioritize her own self, and that always leads to her undoing. If she would make a legitimate effort to actually be considerate of others she would have a serious shot at winning a TD season, but she has yet to prove she can evolve into that person.

They wanted to put an interesting spin on how Courtney was brought in this season. Plus, sure it's unfair, but this is Total Drama we're talking about. In season 1, there was literally an episode where Chris counted in a freaking parrot's votes just because the bird said LeShawna's name. That bird wasn't even a contestant. And an episode in season 6 with a chicken lie detector where he specifically said if the chicken says the contestant told the truth they wouldn't get shocked, but went against that when it came to Ella just because Sugar got mad at what she said. What's the point of having the chicken there if you're just gonna assume that what Ella said was a lie anyway????? Even though the chicken who's a literal living lie detector, said Ella was telling the truth?????

@@someoneelseishere5964 The reason why I repeated my original sentiment was that I wanted to highlight that having her come back, and be immunized from any vote casted against her, is clearly cheating and tampering - whether it’s an unexpected twist or not. And what really bugged me to no end was that she was allowed to cast a vote despite anyone not being allowed to vote for her. How does that make an ounce of sense? And, yes, I’m inclined to agree that their have been plenty of unfair eliminations. That episode where LeShawna got voted out by parrot had no business even being an elimination episode to begin with - and I’m someone that deeply detests non-elimination episodes. But TD has, and likely will always be, a downright sadist show. I must admit, however, that it is actually rather funny to see Chris occasionally take a moral stance - I mean you know you’re days are numbered in the competition when Chris calls you to the carpet for your actions. Chris maybe a compelling character, but I do think there were countless instances where he was excessively over-the-top - like laughing at his interns getting devoured alive by beetles. There’s no denying that his behavior went completely off the rails starting in S3. And one year in jail, on aggregate, for all the things that he’s done throughout the years seems like a slap on the wrist consequence to me - he’s done some things that would get The Punisher to hunt him down.
