I think both couples are so sweet, but the producers totally wrecked BOTH relationships by twisting Trent and Duncan's personalities ridiculously out of character. Trent's 9 obsession in s2 came completely out of nowhere, and Duncan using Gwen to grab Courtney's attention in s5 was also entirely random and ooc for Duncan. I love both couples, but I'd personally rather Gwen be alone unless Trent and/or Duncan revert to their original selves and STAY in character.

I don't like how Trent became an obsessed weirdo after season 1... But, I had NO idea Duncan didn't actually like Gwen and used her to make Courtney jealous.. I'm so done.

@ariesoffcial TM Trent became an obsessed weirdo because plot. That's why the nine obsession came out of nowhere. As for Duncan, I forgot he did that. If he really wanted Courtney's attention then why cheat on her in the first place?

Gwuncan is overrated, and I respect people's opinions but there was always something about Gwent that warmed my heart at such a young age, they truly loved each other despite being opposites. Sure Duncan and Gwen have similarities between them but true love isn't about similarities it's about what's on the inside and excepting each other's flaws and working together through hard times - It's the creators fault for screwing Trent's character over in season 2. tbh, Gwent and Gwuncan were both great in their own ways. Gwent was the story of 2 different people who ended up genuinely liking each other and having a great and cute connection (not to mention scenes)! That is until season 2 where they completely smashed Trent's character by making him a jealous, obsessive, weirdo- this was all explained poorly too, he never showed any of these signs in season 1- basically he became a different character which changed the relationship causing them to break up. Gwen's only flaw in season 2 is being spinless with Justin- with the whole telling Justin to go ahead and vote Trent off and all that- as that seemed rather out of character. In the Aftermath Gwen basically becomes everyone's punching bag just for breaking up with Trent. To me that solidified the end of genuine beauty that was Gwent. Gwuncan now was a slow build as they were shown to be friends and then close friends until their feelings came out for each other, more so due to their failed/failing relationships- while it was executed poorly in the begining and ended ubrutely and randomly in the end, everything else in the middle was cute and endearing as they too were shown to have a deep connection- having a lot on common but being 2 different people also. I liked both of them while they lasted despite their many and obvious flaws. Personally, I don't understand the hate but I do understand the dislike in one or the other when your not looking at the big picture- which is that the creators twisted the character's personalities to try and get the outcome they wanted, then it became about appeasing the fans, and lastly it was just bad writing (but that's another story). . . . While I enjoy both I do slightly prefer Gwuncan as season 2 jealous, clingy Trent was annoying- and in the Aftermath he didn't seem to care too much as time went on.

Just because Gwen and Duncan have similarities doesn’t automatically mean they should be together. Thats what friends are, relationships are definitely about chemistry. Trent and Gwen have chemistry they did automatically even if they’re different. Courtney and Duncan had the automatic chemistry too, even if they denied it at first. Its why Duncan was jealous of Scottney is the later season and still had feelings for her while she was trying to move on. Trent and Gween belong together and Courtney and Duncan belong together. Gwen and Duncan were those friends who tried to be together because of mixed feelings its why it never worked and at the end of the day it was just added for more drama.

I hate how they killed Gwent on S2, in TDI Trent was cool the entire season, even when he said Gwen rocked his world he was enthusiastic yet cool, but smh in S2 producers / writers decided to make him a jealous insecure guy! Sure they needed the drama but it wasn’t necessary to kill one of the favorites couples of this show! They throw their background story to the trash, why make us fall in love with such a beautiful couple (come on! there was a connection since Ep 1) to make it end so ridiculously?!! Gwen’s character is direct, but when it came to Trent she suddenly assumed the reason of his weird behavior and dumped him instead of talking and saving their relationship, after all they’ve been trough?? He really cared about her, he freakin carried a rock around the forest to prove she could trust him, he defended her on the aftermath, where she also said she still cares about Trent, which gave me hope they’ll get back together at some point! But heck they had to make Gwen and Duncan happen. I loved them but as friends, Duncan belongs with Courtney. Sure he cared about Gwen and protected her, and I loved that besides being a couple they successfully competed against each other, however, lowkey (then obviously) he was still obsessed with Courtney, and he didn’t even care that much when Gwen dumped him! Also, it kinda broke my heart when on the aftermath Gwen was invited and Trent said awkwardly “so... Duncan? Huh. Didn’t see that coming” I mean omg WHY Gwen and Trent had so many cute moments and I just can’t believe they had such a brutal and stupid ending! Same with Duncan and Courtney (they completed each other) And for the record it sucks everyone hated Gwen so much on S2, sure she was out of line when she asked that team to vote Trent off, and why would she even own them?? It wasn’t her fault Trent was letting her win when she didn’t ask for it, and she didn’t really took advantage of it. Anyways, after she and many other characters were friends they had to hate her?? Ugh, after the whole Gwent thing happened I stopped watching the show (I only saw short clips of my favorite characters) I know it’s just a show but still, it sucks because it demonstrates writers / producers didn’t really care about a really good background story they had, they could have developed in major depth the characters but nah, they twisted them out of nowhere with sucky endings. Pd: They freakin are in S1 and S2’s intro together!! (The bonfire and the limousine) But yet they don’t end up together?? COME ON

Gwen said they were just friends but she ends up dating Duncan after and it doesn't help that this relationship came to be after Duncan cheated on Courtney and Gwen went from acting sorry to being more worried about Duncan being voted off next. How good can a relationship be if it's born out of infidelity. And obviously Duncan ain't right in the head either. Ahh geez I can't really decide... Gwent was a good pairing in S1, it seemed realistic and healthy. In TDA though, he got reaaallly obsessive. Obviously Duncan was kind of the reason Trent got paranoid, but he was creepy before that. Their relationship become very one-sided and unhealthy. I really liked the Gwuncan pairing, they had a lot in common and really enjoyed eachothers company. But I think Gwuncan was better as a friendship. Duncan kind of lead Gwen on in WorldTour and All-Stars, it was obvious he only got with Gwen to make Courtney jealous. And Duncney was the best TDI relationship ever! I hope they bring it back because those 2 are gonna come back for the new season. I will always prefer Gwent, because it seemed to have better development. Though it was ruined in TDA, I don't like how Gwuncan got together it was messy and very out of character. Worse they contradict themselves. In TDWT, Gwen after kissing Duncan is anxious because in her words she'd just got cool with Courtney then she kisses her boyfriend. Then acts like She and Duncan did nothing wrong. The second time they kissed yes Duncney was over, the first time no. It ruined a good friendship between Gwen and Courtney. I might have liked Gwuncan if it didn't get together the way it did. But also it didn't last because he was still all concerned about Courtney. Neither Courtney or Gwen deserve to be a second choice. 22skytiger I know the purpose of the storyline was the Network and Tom preferring Duncney and Gwent. And it was extremely messy and I feel bad Gwen was dragged into it. Because she was manipulated and being used, and the whole storyline had people believing that they were in the right, and Courtney deserved it. Honestly the part that bothersome the most is the denying it was cheating, Gwen did feel bad then just acted as if she was never wrong. I was happy when it ended but it was so unnecessary the storyline came out of nowhere. To ppl can just be friends, and that's why I prefer them as. The chemistry was simply better.

I like both ships a lot, but I’m more inclined towards Gwent because that was the starting ship and I go crazy over opposites attract. I also HATE how the second season treated Trent - he was such a good character and they just ran him into the ground and made him completely different. That was such a cop out for the story line for me. Trent as a character deserved better, and so did Gwen. Even if they wanted to end it, they could have just went with Trent gets voted off and things didn’t work out after that. I dunno, just seemed like cheap bad writing to me.

I always preferred Gwen x Trent the way it was done in Total Drama Island. I LOVED that they contrasted so well; like, Trent doesn't look like someone that Gwen would be interested in, and yet she had a total crush on him. On the other hand, Duncan looks like someone that would be paired up with Gwen based on looks alone, making them LOOK like a less unique pairing. I did not like how Trent became obsessed, to the point where he was throwing him and his team under the bus just so Gwen could win. I understand being worried about someone possibly taking your girl from you, and I will admit that I had become a bit obsessive when a similar thought was placed into my head about my own S.O., but in a show where all the characters are strongly represented by personality-based stereotypes, it just doesn't feel IN CHARACTER. I feel the same way about Duncan and Courtney- they don't LOOK like they'd get together, but they did. and they had a longer run than Gwen and Trent but ultimately died out because Duncan became into Gwen. I didn't give TDAS the light of day, but I heard that Courtny and Scott got together for a short amount of time, and I've seen some images about it. I think that they would have been an alright couple too, because both DxC and SxC seem unique; two guys I can't imagine someone like Courtney dating. Gwen just doesn't have it that way, so there's just one person I like Gwen with.

Duncan is a straight up douchebag who clearly didn't deserve being with Gwen OR Courtney. Nuff said. *UPDATED OPINION* Let me clarify how the writers destroyed Gwen completely. When she was introduced in Island, she was as sarcastic, vicious, and savage as she was, being very careful on who she lets into her life, BUT when All-Stars came around, she was already a former, water-down, shell of her former self. Think about it, Gwen being so hurt and dejected when she tried to make amends with Courtney, especially breaking down crying over her during her confessional, while unknowingly being eavesdropped by Courtney on the outside (in Food Fright) has some evidence to this claim that I'm making. The TDI-era Gwen wouldn't eventually say fuck it and let it go and put Courtney on her "shit list" but no she didn't. I totally blame Duncan for all this. Basically, Gwen and Trent AKA "Gwent" their relationship was based on love. Whereas, Duncan and Gwen AKA "Gwuncan" was purely based on lust. Think about it. Duncan had used Gwen's emotions against her eventually, like how he must have on Courtney. In All-Stars, he wanted to see if Courtney had seen any of he and Gwen's interactions which eventually pissed off Gwen into finally dumping him on Moon Madness, likely driven by his low-key jealously on Courtney and Scott's interactions. Also, Duncan seemed to be responsible for why Gwen and Trent broke up, when he gave some kind of hints about Trent's obsession over the number 9 stating that Trent and Gwen's names (the letters in their names combined) numbered 9 which made it seem that Trent had lost it over her, further pushing Gwen to eventually break up with Trent. That's my updated take on this, after thinking more about it.

I've wanted Gwen to end up with Duncan since season one and I really like them together, but at this point I wouldn't be upset if they didn't, I just hate all the weird traits that were thrown on Gwen and Duncan after the third season. I'd like to see Gwen, Duncan, Courtney, and Trent all get along, but I don't want a Gwen who's over sensitive to everything people say about her, I don't want a Duncan who can't notice the girl he's with because he's too focused on what the other girl is thinking about him, I don't want a Courtney who is obsessed with controlling and changing Duncan, and I don't want a Trent who gets weird and obsessive. In theory I like all four characters and I'd like to see them all as friends whether Gwen ends up with Trent or Duncan but for that to happen they need to end up as better characters. Gwen had so much character growth over the first three seasons only for it to get destroyed afterwards. Duncan grew too, and even Courtney grew in a way that was believable. But so much went wrong after the third season that I don't think it could ever be fixed. It makes me sad because I started watching total drama island when it first came out in 2008 and I was just nine years old. Gwen was my favorite character and one of the first goth characters I ever saw on tv, I'm goth and at the time I was just discovering goth and so seeing her was a big deal to me, her character growth over the seasons was a big deal to me. I hated All Stars, I tried watching it but Gwen's character was hardly recognizable to me, Duncan was definitely off too. The whole thing was just really disappointing.
