I’ve blown thru three of these machines over 30 years. I go thru bouts of inactivity During the winter months because of the food. When January rolls around I’m back in shape in three weeks. I’m 62 now and still working circles around the younger guys. I try to recommend total gym but they won’t listen. Slow, weak and soft. Tip: cut the sugar and bread and increase the fiber and 20 minutes on the total gym. That’s all it takes.

I agree it's a good and fun machine, but No, you cannot just use the total gym whenever you want,unless you're home all the time... : / In that case,hey,more power to you for that type of perseverance, and Genius of being a stay at home business person..?! But for the average Joe Schmo, yeah,no,total gym is a nice machine and all,.. "That is Restricted", to at home usage,meaning,..Yeah,you don't use it unless you're at home sweet home,wheras with resistance bands,.. "Wallah". There is " You're Very Own beloved "Total Gym",and yeah, Right in you're front or rear pocket, You're Choice ! And speaking of choice,ultimately speaking, what makes sense then..?! I mean,so many people out in the world do not have the luxury of being able to place a big cumbersome machine in they're tiny lil cramped up rented room,and a gym membership is just not ideal at all,in so many undesirable ways,so then what,you ask,and wallah ! There it is ! The answer is resistance bands ! They're super light and ultra portable, and yeah,you can just use them wherever and whenever ! I LOVE IT!!! i am using it every week and only had to replace the cables once as it started to fray.. was a nightmare finding the cable but i refused to give up and i finally got it!! i think i paid like £200 maybe if i remember correctly ! I bought the total gym 1400 off amazon for 270. Ive put off buying this for over 10 years because it’s so expensive. I should of bought it 10 years ago! I have been paying 50 per month at a gym by my work for my lunch hour. Now I do my complete body workout in less than 20 minutes at home and feel like I got a better workout than going to the gym.

The Total Gym is a great workout machine. I have had a Total Gym XLS (and many accessories) for almost 10 years. I use it everyday, along with my NordicTrack Treadmill, as part of my workout routine. The Total Gym forces you to stabilize your core for proper form, which also works out your abs with almost every exercise. However, it is not going to make you look like Arnold Schwarzenegger by any means. The Total Gym is designed to tone and build muscle (to a point), while using cardio to lose weight and build up endurance. You can also add a short barbell and weight plates to the XLS model, which makes workouts (like squats) much more intensive. Also, remember that the Total Gym is not some "magic" device. You actually have to use it after you purchase it, and not let it become an expensive clothing rack. The other important aspect of a good workout program is diet. Eat healthy, limit sugar and carbs and stop drinking. You will be amazed what exercise AND diet can do for your body AND mind. This is especially true during events like this crazy COVID-19 PANDEMIC. A lot of us are stuck at home looking for things to do to occupy our time. Why not get into shape? This situation actually works for me personally, as I don't like going to gyms to begin with, and gyms being closed right now does not bother me at all. The other aspect of Total Gym as a company is that they have great customer service. If you need a new or replacement part for your Total Gym they will assist you in getting it. I don't work for Total Gym, but I will give credit where credit is due. It is a great product, and having a great guy like Chuck Norris as a sponsor does not hurt sales, I am sure. I am currently 52 years old, 6' 1" and 190 lbs. I am still in very good shape and healthy because I work hard and eat right in order to stay that way. If you are thinking about getting a Total Gym, then go for it. I guarantee it will help your body and mind, but you do have to actually use it, and not just look at it, for it to work. I was in good shape in the first year of the pandemic. A friend gave me a Bowflex machine and I used it 3 days/week. But, I built up too much bulk, was straining too hard, and I kind of messed up my bod. So, I started a functional mobility program with a physiotherapist, but I wasn't pushing the weight limits, it was more about rebalancing and starting out small weight resistance. Then, I got covid and it lasted a month, and I'm still a bit tired from it, but it's more like just being out of shape, flabby and not feeling too great. But, I still got my Bowflex! I'd love to try a Total Gym. It seems like a good machine for compound exercises which is a natural way to move.

I bought a total gym at a garage sale for about $50-60 back in 2002 and gave it to my Mom (she loved it). It's a great machine for what it is, you're not gonna get big or anything but you'll get in shape. I lol'd hard when I found out how much they actually cost though. You can still find them on craigslist or offerup pretty cheap. Never buy one new though.

I have a Weider since I can't afford the total gym. I don't like how it feels compared to the total gym, but you get what you pay for. But I have been using the total gym 3 times a week, most days only 10 to 15 min....im a mom. In 3 weeks I have lost weight and gained muscle. My lower belly from pregnancy is also shrinking! Total Gym is a good machine overall. It's fun and quite effective overall, But,IMO,..Bands,..That is, "Resistance Bands", are The New,and improved "Total Gym". They just simply have "The Total Gym" machine beat, For the simple reason of conventional practical portability and big-time convenience. You can literally carry the things around in you're jacket or pants,or shorts pockets ! And just up and use them whenever, and wherever ! For example, during the summer of 2019,I carried around this AARP fitness resistance band right in my pocket,and just took it out right in the middle of the grocery store parking lot,and started busting out one handed overhead presses with this thing and immediately got all this Amazing complimentary attention. One person in particular seemed Very Inspired,and reacted in a "That's the Way You Do it !" Type of way,as far as reactive reactions. : )

I recomend this to all my clients. It does every muscle from head to toe. I used a basic total gym model and used it for all my cable exercises. Depending on the training session i only used my total gym my whole workout. If youre trying to get in shape or stay in shape and save money in the long run on a gym membership. Look no more. This really does replacs the gym. Now if you have powerlifting goals this is not the machine for you. All though it would help in a powerlifting program as far as strength.

Just bought one of these and waiting for it to be delivered some time today!! I decided on this one simply because it seemed to have a lot of options (exercises and resistance), DVDs, accessories, etc. I spent so much money in the past on gym memberships sometimes with a trainer which was a useless waste of money. I hope this is going to help me get in better shape, lose weight and maintain some level of fitness. Can't forget to make sure to eat correctly.

Don't eat refined grains and don't eat sugary foods or drinks. Also, make sure you don't eat for at least a 12 hr window every day. Diet is key to weight loss and management. Exercise only goes so far.

I buy in 2007 a used one for only 45 Swiss Francs, and i used him a while but I'm loosing interest, I'm going to a crowded gym. Now in 2019 I found it totally dirty in the basement. Purchased a Total Gym 1000 (original machine) for $50 and even with it missing accessories it does an excellent job targeting the Back and Shoulder Muscles. You can get creative with it and use unorthodox movements but I've found that the machine is much better equipped for pulling movements than pushing or pressing. Maybe if I had a long bar attachment it would be different. ALL IN ALL: If you can find one used on OFFERUP, EBAY or anywhere BUY IT! Worth the money! I've seen XLS which may not be the latest but is one that is fully featured for less than 200.

It was totally useless because it really doesn't provide enough resistance to generate any substantial hypertrophy. For way less money you can buy a set of rubber bands like those sold by Undersun Fitness and get a way better workout that actually builds muscle.

Chuck said something that isn't true at 5:51. Free weights don't just work specific muscles, it's the machines that isolate muscles because you are stuck in one single range of motion. Free weights is exactly what you're supposed to do if you want to work your stabilizers as well as your core while doing pretty much any free weight exercise. That being said, this machine is not like the other machines because the hands are not stuck in one specific range of motion, they are free and, you have to use your own core to keep them from moving allover the place so yeah, i do believe that this machine can do what it claims. Only thing is you're limited to working with your own body weight.

I guess what he meant was when you do a barbell or dumbbell curl for example, yes you do also work your trunk muscles, forearms and legs to a certain point because you are standing to do the exercise... But the main target are the biceps... and despite the other muscles being activated to some degree simply because you are standing up, the biceps receive the majority of the stress. But on the Total Gym, a lot more muscles come into play to keep stable... Being limited to your bodyweight is only partially true... the ability of the machine to raise the angle of the bench effectively "multiplies" your weight for you to work against.

Chuck is looking really old. Face life is not going good for him. He looks like he is struggling. Sad chuck, sad. Now people, I own the total gym. It is a good workout machine for people who need a machine that almost does it all. When I was young, I'd have it on top max and it would NOT GIVE ME ENOUGH WEIGHT, but I was doing heavy lifting. Now as a father who doesn't work out anymore and I lost all my strength. This machine is good to get back into working out. I kinda feel it's more for older people though. The cons. It's big, heavy. Doesn't move around to easy. Like from room to room or upstairs to downstairs. The wheels on pulleys start to squeak and make noise after years of use. If u have long hair it gets caught in the pulleys if your not careful(right where head rests). The pulleys scratch against your arms when pressing. When Folding it up, it's not small. And extended its quite long. This is not a perfect machine. But it does work and is nice to use . I felt the workouts are not great and I lost interest fast. Now that coronavirus locked us down and the gyms are closed I do have something to work out on.

Use tu have one total gym on til I discover. Resistance bands
