@@sreyachatterjee5377 So it's been 8 months almost exactly. Feb 19th and I can walk great do basically everything I use too. I'd say the only thing that bugs me is when I sit down with my legs crossed or try put my leg over the other knee. But when you say "normal" after an Accident.. that depends on the accident. Cause my replacement was a graduale pain that slowly wore away. It's not like mine was damaged from a impact or break.

@@trigger3319 still sore 50% of the time, but much better that before surgery. Sometimes It feels completely fine tho too. Cold weather or rain actually makes a difference as well. Other than that it's pretty good. I'm a pretty active guy so it definetly gets sore, but when I'm relaxing for a few days i feel great.

I wish I saw this when I had my hip replacement, it really would've helped me. I got my hip replacement when I was 17 due to a cyst that made my bone really weak. First surgery failed so they had to go back in for a second surgery. I fell into depression after spending 2 years unable to walk but im glad to say I made it through, and I'm glad to hear so did you.

Good evening. I was diagnosed with avascular necrosis both left and right of my hip joints. I pray that the operation will be successful. I am experiencing this struggling since 2012, so it's been 20 years now. 🥺 I can't stand in a long period of time but 15-20 minutes then the pain starts and I can't walk again and feels like my hip joints are locked and I can barely move my legs. I miss playing volleyball, flying saucer, taekwondo, kyokoshin, swimming and running. But for me, once the operation done, it's ok not to get back to those activities as long as I can manage and enjoy my life in some light activities that still can make my body healthy and functioning especially my legs. I Myself got a thr in my mid 20s, and will be getting my other one now in my mid 30s, I just wish i would have got the 2nd one done sooner to get back my rhythm in my life since i have thos other hip holding me back right now. Condition was also AVN of bilateral hips. 1st THR made a great change in my activity. Cant wait for my other one, In the name of the father, Im hoping to feel less restricted in what i can do and achieve since my hip pain has always restricted me. Great video. Thank you. As an active 63 year old, I just had my left hip replaced 10 days ago and the joint pain is completely gone. I feel 100% better.The only discomfort now, is the muscle soreness from the surgery itself. My surgeon used the Anterior approach which seems to be the better option for a variety of reasons but not all surgeons are up to speed on this method. There is nothing to fear with regard to the surgery

OMG Thank you so much for this video. I got into a car accident at age 7 and have a fused hip since then, now I'm 30. There's no pain or anything, I just limp a little and feel uncomfortable walking and this basically ruined my whole life and took all my confidence away, but I'm doing boxing and wrestling and basketball, so I was afraid I won't be able to get back to my physical activities after the surgery and that's why I still haven't had it. I am 47 and scheduled for my first hip replacement. I have bone on bone and have lived with the pain since 2006. I now can not reach my foot to tie my shoes and have constant back pain. I can walk but if I walk too far I inflame my hip and and am laid up for a few days with a steady diet of anti-inflammatory meds that tear my stomach up. Thank you for this post and the blog. I am nervous since once you go this route there is not backing out and I do not want to put myself in a more difficult situation.

Thanks for your video. I am very grateful for that. I had my total hip replacement 11 days ago. I had osteoarthritis due to femoroacetabular impingement. I'm 36 years old, I'm Brazilian and I'm passionate for soccer. I used to play 4 to 5 times a week, but 5 years ago I started to feel pain in my right hip, until this year I had to stop to play due to the intensity of the pain. It was also impacting in my walking, sleeping and normal daily activities. After the surgery, I had a lot of doubts about what I could do in terms of activities, especially because I have 2 small children and I always played with them. I was a little sad, but after watching your video I started to feel encouraged and motivated. Again, thank you very much for that and please continue to post videos on the subject. Hey I’ve just found this video! I had my hip replacement two days ago at the age of 16. I have the exact same condition (vascular necrosis) caused by steroids in a previous illness. I was on crutches before my surgery for 1 year but luckily was pain free. I want to be as active as possible so thank you so much for this video explaining into more depth! The doctors said to be really careful for 6 weeks as i’m very prone to dislocation due to being young and having really speedy recovery. So let’s hope i can return to activities I love (hockey, tennis, cycling, yoga, gym) 🤞🤞

I'm 31 years old. I had a football injury when I was 13, posterior L hip dislocation. I had arthroscopic surgery a year later that revealed a full thickness cartilaginous defect which has caught up with me. I am scheduled for surgery on Dec. 8th. This is super sappy but I'm about to go squat and I want to say how grateful i am to you and this video. I was diagnosed with avascular necrosis last summer and fought to have surgery (i was apparently "too young" even though it would impact my quality of life during my "youth"). Powerlifting is the closest thing i have to a spiritual practice and to possibly not be able to do it anymore made me crushingly depressed. It was bleak. One day I stumbled across this video after trying to learn more about what was happening to me and what i could expect. I had surgery last Nov. I know i'll never be able to hit my old PRs (or at least it would be extremely ill advised to) but i can deadlift and squat again and for that i am happy. Thank you, thank you, thank you for making me feel like there was hope.

Vinna, I know I’m the “most recent” recipient of a double hip arthroplasty and I was very skeptical at first. (Meaning will I be able to do the things I want to do like play basketball, tennis, lifting and riding my bike.) I’m actually more focused because it’s all on me. My doctor said don’t get hung up with not being able to do certain activities. For instance it’s been 5-6 years that I’ve ridden a bike because of the pain it caused me. So, it will be a long process but I’m up for it! When I got on my bike a month ago and rode pain free that’s when I said “I need to get the other one done NOW”! LOL! Glad I did and now it’s all about rehabbing daily. Having a positive group of people you can talk to also helps a great deal. Hold that head up high! Do not follow this video, THR patients can't lay down or sit on the floor forever. Better check with your surgeon. They make videos just to get high no of views. I recently had THR done on left side and i have been asked not to sit or lay down on the floor.

I had a total hip replacement for both hips when I was 12 years old. I have hip dysplasia. I just want to strengthen my leg and hip muscles. I'm so tired of feeling like "I can't" There is so much I never got to experience as a kid because of the pain and as a teen because of the surgery and recovery. I let this effect me and I was scared to push myself. Now I'm 29 and not sure where to even start. My hips are pretty week with limited range and its discouraging at time. Thank you Doc for this video. I am glad this was shared in our group. I am in search of resources to help with my battle against AVN in my left hip. Six months ago I decided to take personal responsibility for my health after two years of struggling with the disease and i have worked my way back from walking with a cane daily to biking 20 km 5 days a week and a full weight/core workout weekly schedule. My hip is 90% better than it was when i started and I have recovered almost all my range of motion while reducing my daily pain meds drastically. For me it has been a lifestyle changing decision. I feel great and at 49 I am probably in the best shape of my life. After joining a support group I realized just how lucky I am. But I can't believe I am the only person diagnosed with AVN living like this. I am looking for like minded active people to share experiences etc. Doctors recommend i try not to do anything and the only course of action is a replacement. Being the rebel I have always been I am intent on proving this to be an option. The medical advice in Mexico is not trust worthy when you are a foreigner so support is important as i feel very isolated.

I was diagnosed with AVN of my other hip at the same time, but supposedly it was less severe. I was close to getting it replaced 6 years ago, but held off. I have very limited range of motion, but I'm able to do most of what I want without pain. I do my best to maintain a healthy weights while having good exercise and dietary habits. I can't give you specific medical advice, but I know that I personally do my best to live a healthy lifestyle.

To be able to do as much as I do but also my opposite hip is healthy and after two and a half years they tell me there is very little chance it will develop in that hip. I would like to know if you are aware of any forums or support groups other than your resources for more active people with hip issues. The current ones I am part of while helpful are not really full of like minded people. It adds to the depression of someone trying to stay healthy mind body and soul if you understand what i mean.

I was diagnosed with AVN that came from taking prednisone as part of my treatment for a kidney disease I have. I had it in both hips and had them both replaced at the age of 27. Within 6 months it progressed so fast that I went from having total independence to limiting my activities to only work and doctors appointments. I couldn’t even bend my hips enough to sit in my car or even put my own socks on. It was the worst pain I’ve ever felt. Getting both of them replaced was a no brainer. I was also confirmed to have AVN in both of my elbows which sucks because elbow replacements aren’t an option for young folks. It’s been a year since both of my surgeries and I have returned to an almost normal life. I do have minor aches that make sleeping hard sometimes but otherwise no complaints.

Thank you for this, it really helps to hear about a case in a young person. I've had problems with my hip and knee since some car accidents when I was 20. Now, at 32, I had another MVA last year and my hip is getting so bad that I walk with a cane and can barely go on my walks that I love. I’m 23 and I was diagnosed with AVN in both of my femoral heads - Feb 2023. I went to the hospital with severe poking pain in my Right Hip and after MRI it was confirmed that my Right Hip was stage 3 and Left Hip was stage 2 of AVN. My doctor suggested to not go for the THR considering my age and instead recommended for Bilateral Core Decompression of both my hips and BMAC as well. Now 10 months after surgery and could feel the difference. Slowly getting better and hoping for the best.

I just had a hip replacement on the 1st of July due to a large cell tumor in my femoral head and actually broke my femur at the neck on the 30th of June when I slipped with my crutches going up the stairs and put all my weight on my left leg. Fellow AVN hip replacement here. I got mine done at 34 years old, going on 3.5 years now. Back to most of my pre-AVN activities but I too chose to limit and avoid some activities to try to extend the life of the implant.

Im a 45yr old who had a hip replacement on right side. AVN issue due to steroid use in another chest issue.2 months after the surgery i had a dislocation and again now having to wait for the proper healing.Now have stopped my Gym activity and was terminated from Job. I had my left hip replaced last year at 25 years of age due to Legg calve perthes, they made my leg longer by almost an inch and a half to even out my hip lengths. Really struggling with the tightness is the hamstrings even after over a year after the surgery. Wanting to gain muscle in my legs.

You give me the approximate duration of hip replacement and understand the time and adjustment that one need to make before you can function again. At first I want to have hip replacement now but I just realized that I should wait a little longer. Hip revision is more complicated as well.

I got 2 total hip replacements in 2017 both that year due to AVN also, I was 27 for the first and 28 for the second! both was going bad at the same time, and same rate! I did my own physical therapy and went to work 1 month after each surgery! I'm a bartender/server

I also have AVN, it developed over time, also had the pain, limp and greatly impacted my life . I'm 33. Sitting in a car makes me feel the worst UPDATE: I had my surgery over 9 days ago. My hip feels great. The incision site and muscle pain is the worst so far. Also learning to walk again is hard but for the most part I'm much better. The road to recovery isn't easy but the surgery is worth it

I actually had some difficulties in the last year - replacement has been three years ago - with my replacement because of muscular weakness, but was able to work it out together with my orthopaedist. Now I am back and can be active again. Still not regretting the replacement, since even with the problems, it was better than before.

My daily life is still a lot easier than before the replacement and I am optimistic it'll last for another few years. I am sometimes still amazed about being able to walk more than a few meters pain free even though it's been a few years since the replacement.

Thank you! This video is inspiring to me. It's both hopeful and realistic. I'm about to have my right hip replaced on August 2. I'm on an 90 day sabbatical now for various reasons including so that I can work out every day and train up *before* the replacement with functional movement using TRX (with a good trainer), Bikram Yoga (correctly), Orange Theory (with a sane trainer), swimming, hiking and some weights. I've never been as athletic as I would like to have been, and it took many years to discover that I had so many problems with this hip, from an early labral tear, to possible nerve damage, to osteoarthritis and finally disappearance of most of the cartilage. This re-enforced all kinds of bad habits, and actually I never had learned good ones. My hope is that I become more active than I ever was. I have no interest in anything high impact, just correct movement and everything I can do with that. I was never able to squat more than 135 correctly because of problems I never knew I had until much later. I am so looking forward to this!

Im 35 and had a hip reconstruction/ FAI procedure about 7 years ago. Been in pain since age 13. Now im considering a replacement but i dont think im old enough, but the pain has returned for the long haul. But im sick of the throbbing and burning. I am able to work but its all i can manage to do now. I dont do anything else. No more extra walking, biking, driving, sitting, social events, i order online vs going to the market, etc. I even turn down girlfriends when I'm in a painful mood because it makes me grouchy. I never ever commit to plans because idk how I'm going to feel and if Im feeling good my free time is dedicated to strengthening my right glute which has stopped firing. When im sore i just have to go lay down. Sitting down is not even an option. Mentally its really worn me down too, and my only goal is stacking cash to retire asap, however extra work just irritates it worse so i have to be very careful. I've also switched jobs almost every year because I get an attitude from the pain and I eventually get fired or self sabotage.

I had a very similar condition all through my teen years called leg calve perthes, which also caused bone tissue damage and cartilage deterioration. No idea why, it just randomly manifested and since it’s onset was so late there was virtually no cure. I had my hips replaced at 18 and so far (almost 21) doing pretty good!

My only problem is that I’m not all that flexible (but then again I never was), and when I stretch certain ways it hurts in a weird way coming out of the stretch. Other than that I have full use of my legs and honestly I sometimes forget they’re metal. Except when I go through tsa lol. I’m sorry you’re having a hard time with it, hopefully physical therapy and exercise will help. I’d ask my doctor who did the procedure if I were you

I was going across several videos, for information regarding recovery periods. I myself had 4 surgeries when I was an infant between the ages 1.5 to 4 due to congenital hip dysplasia. And 6 weeks back I had my revision Total Hip Replacement of right hip. I am currently in bed rest having undergone a 10 hour surgery the doctors have put me in a de-rotation hip cast. According to the doctor, it might take me a total of 14 weeks atleast to atleast stand up. After seeing the comments of this video, I am confident that I shall be able to come to my normal life gradually.

I was in a terrible state with many of the “Old Age” diseases and covid hangover plus hardware issues of lower back and right hip. 14 months ago, aged 73, we began by fixing my right hip. The day I left hospital I started floating in a swimming pool, walking became striding, then under water yoga stretches and when bouncing was easy I began slowly walking the gentle incline of the 5 level parking entrance. From there to light gym work to which I added as I felt I could. 2 months ago I won the national shot put competition and now can comfortably machine-squat plus 300kg but keep it to 200 x 4 x 12 for training. 130 is enough for deadlift. I walk an average of 5km a day and once a week I do step work of 4 sets of 60 metre climbs (30 flights) as fast as I can. Luckily I’m retired so have more time than most of those commenting AND a secret weapon. After fiddling about with meat and one veg for 9 months I went full carnivore lifestyle 6 weeks before the hip op. All sorts happened that amazed me and the specialists. For example I healed faster than “normal”, post-op pain was easily controlled, in record time for an old-fart I was getting up alone and on the walker, after 30 years of blood pressure issues medication was stopped. It was decided I didn’t need that lower back op or to see the arthritis specialist, the stomach bleeds stopped …
