What Ms. Kalid does not seem to understand is that (X) Twitter is supporting a persons human right to free speech by paying for his lawfare costs to fight for his human right. Twitter is not supporting a political candidate.

Oh, this brings back warm and cousy feelings of the McCarthy era where witch-hunts were held in public to destroy people's lives for the sake of national security, in that case, the target group included those with too liberal ideas, socialists and communist sympathizers. Those were the times! and broadcasted on TV for pop-corn-compatible entertainment (bread and circus). So many lives were obliterated-a truly great time. Today, the target is a Professor who mistakenly assumed he had the right to voice his opinion, that he had freedom of speech (told to all academic staff in Canada-of course you do! providing that...).I don't know how many times this professor was marked in this hearing as someone who is an extreme-right activist and influencer (who decided that? this is truly truly scary stuff being displayed here). So let's dive into the problem of über control by the government/institution, "encouraging" everyone to get vaccinated and obliterating any non-conforming individual. I want to be the person who decides this. Why? because it rapidly becomes a sliding scale (flu vaccine, measles etc). Where do you draw the line as there is always some people at risk? When should my rights be taken away from me? Well it's simple: for me, I don't want to get sick and die for no reason so I got vaccinated (but got really sick anyway:). But if you refuse to get vaccinated, then this could be reflected in your health insurance and could result in you being de-prioritized by the triage nurse, or, that you have to pay a substantial portion of your medical bill if your illness was a direct consequence of your choice. I rather have such a system in place than an over-bearing government (like the liberals). To give an example of another area: we are still free to over-eat, sit still binge watching TV or whatever and become obese which is as costly if not more so for society than COVID. The only thing mitigating this (for society) is that obese individuals tend to live shorter lives. But how do you control the population in this case, another tax? That's would not be easy as those with limited means would then end up eating vegetables only. So no realistic possibility for our government to impose control of the individual in this case, sorry. A more difficult point though, is when you put others at risk through communicable diseases as well as society as a whole, possibly being harmed by decreased overall production and a marked increased health costs combined with a too heavy load on hospitals and staff. I can understand those points but again, this has the risk of becoming a sliding scale when you have a government such as the liberals that is too eager to assert control of the individual. Just replace COVID and vaccination with climate change: a perfect tool for control of the individual. LOL, we now pay carbon taxes which is utterly useless and just forces more and more families to the food bank. The liberals then "quip" Carbon-tax return! But that is just another blatant example of Government control of the individual and, just a non-sensical re-distribution tool. To summarize, I think we should be able to debate pros and cons of anything in a forum where free speech is not only allowed, but encouraged and respected. If there should be any monitoring, it should be to ensure that the rights of every individual to voice his or her opinion (sorry for not including all other pronouns-I lost track) without fear of ending up treated like someone with leprosy like they did in the past. I'm against government control in any way that hamper human rights, e.g. freedom of speech.
