I am the bassist for Edwin Hawkins (oh happy) from 1988 until his death in 2018. The composer of this great song is Richard Smallwood who was a dear friend of Edwin. Richard and Edwin shared a guitarist named Jonathan DuBose who played on Richard’s original recording of this classic. Notice Richard never told Jonathan to do a guitar solo…let that sink in. 🤬

I typically do not make comments to internet posts. However, I must say that really enjoyed this version of this marvelous song. Although I felt that the guitar solo could have been a bit more refined, I respect that artist's interpretation and willingness to reveal his soul. I was even more moved, however, by the gentleman standing at the front left of the piano in the African suit. Starting at about 3:00 he was so moved by the the spirit that he could hardly stand. I can relate to his elation; I have been at that place. I would have loved to have been there to join in worship with him, as well as the others. I don't know him; however, I am prayerful that one of his blessings was manifested through his praise at that moment.

That guitar solo was super awesome. Great humility, yet passionate and Spirit-led. That's what caused the guy in the African garb to react like that. The guitar solo lifted the entire song with it's blatant declaration of skill and worshipful presentation. Total praise!!!

@@antoniolouis5933 Thanks for sharing your observation. My sentiments as well. By the way, I have since learned that the man in the African suit is none other than Joshua Nelson. Look him up.

It’s always mighty to hear big choirs like this. And with this song, WOW. And for the Slash-wannabe with the sixshoo...string...well I’ve been thaught that if you don’t have anything positive to say, you shouldn’t say anything. And OH MY, I have N O T H I N G to say...at all. Hope they’ve got band aids for ear cuts!!!!

Wish focused more on the angelic voices than turning it into a rock infused with guitar solo & the drum cadence like a military marching band

That song was absolutely beautiful. It was sung with the Spirit and if you didn’t feel it something is wrong with you. We are to praise God with all the instruments. We are made to praise God. Do you think it’s going to be quiet in heaven? Every instrument will be praising God. Millions and billions will be singing and dancing in heaven. There’s nothing wrong with the way this song was sung. It’s something wrong with you. When God brings you through some stuff in your life, you’ll praise Him too. You won’t be able to praise him loud enough.

Wow! The guitar player hijacked what was otherwise a superb performance. I feel grieved in my spirit.

Yes- hearing notes, not heart. The melody by itself is beautiful-but any praise from the heart is what has power- not just putting the notes altogether. This is not meant as a criticism to the singers, just a general fact.

Wonderful performance however the only blemish guitar came out of nowhere and it's like the choir forgot that there will be a guitar solo, the choir director had to silence them. In other note it seems that there are more people on stage then attendance 😁
@loristanford8724 Жыл бұрын
The guitar wasn't needed. Should have been just the choir and accompaniment.

It is my hope that the guitarist occasionally comes back to this video and listens to how he basically took a musical DUMP right in the middle of what would have been an amazing and magnificent rendition of this wonderfully blended song. It is my hope that he has the conscience to listen to himself and CRINGE at his error in judgment, and that he vows never to do something like this again. Why gather 1500 singers, and then drown them all out with an Eric Clapton wannabe?

Lovely and memorable rendition of my favorite song, but who told that kid on the guitar to play that tasteless and completely unmusical and out of place noise..

Maybe that is that guys way of expressing his own total praise! Maybe GOD loved it!

+Wally Brown That young man was doing what I'd do on the piano since I'm not much of a vocalist so I express my praise to my Heavenly Father on the ivory keys
@AmosPressley7 жыл бұрын
@Wally Brown I agree. This piece with 1500 singers was impressive and fulfilling... like Thanksgiving Dinner. The Guitar player was like someone letting out a big fart at Thanksgiving Dinner. It may have been needful. It may have been sincere. But it was inappropriate and ugly.

Guitar dude, you're at 11. We need you at about a 3. Take a break.

I sincerely hope that the guitar player is not from the United States. He needs to learn some self control.
