AP20 also has autoheight that measures the height of the pole and use it seemlesly. No more mistake on height.

I've always used Trimble .. My old surveying company i worked for had TopCon but it was just sitting on the shelf.. I assumed they moved to Trimble. Trimble is Dope

Good video. Slightly misleading with some of the specification information spoke. Trimble FieldLink is way easier to use than iCon… LOL Also, the AP20 tilt is only accurate to a 1/4-1/2” and has to be calibrated everyday. $10k for a rod or $200 for bipod..? I go bipod. All in all, good video and thanks guys!!!

Thanks for the reply! Ease of use is subjective, as there are pros and cons to both. We plan on doing another video over the software differences more in depth. For the AP20, you can find their data sheet on their website. Basically, the error is 1mm+.1mm/°tilt. Meaning at 30°, the accuracy is around an 1/8". Anything relatively vertical is much more accurate. The calibration period is once a year, the same as the total station as well. We plan on doing a video over the time it takes to layout a set number of points with the Tilt Pole versus a bipod and bubble. Stay tuned to see the difference!

The Topcon GT series was a brand new design of robots with new motors introduced just 6 years ago. It’s smaller and faster than the Trimble. It has a display and communicates to the tablet via long range Bluetooth instead of a clunky, proprietary radio attached to the back of the tablet. The RC5a sends a signal to the instrument to reacquire the prism instead of the GPS inside the tablet that is not effective under canopy if you don’t have Vision. The RC will work even if you can’t see the instrument e.g. behind a fence. Just raise the rod and initiate an RC search. Not to mention it is half the price of the Leica and Trimble

I have used Trimble for 30 odd years now. Used Leica twice for a year each time. Quickly moved back to Trimble. Topcon was my very first instrument. The Japanese were always world leaders in electronics.

I used Leica TS16 with Leica Captivate to build Expedia headquarters working for GLY Construction, and I used Trimble S7 with Trimble Access with Skanska to build Microsoft's headquarters. Trimble is WAY better. Never used Topcon though.

I'd use Leica for lots of work that's going to be post-processed in the office or legal work. Trimble for construction. And topcon if I was poor and had no other choice. I really do like how much better Leica is when dealing with obstructions to the prism and keeping lock on prisms.

Topcon has the best software Magnet👌 Topcon gives the greatest opportunieties and seems the most Universal. Leica and trimble have very interesting functions and solutions but the part of them is unnessesery in everyday work.

I currently use a trimble nomad and LM80 desktop software. What is the best uodated version of that? I stake foundations and shoot elevations. Need to be able to pring elevations/site plans.

Thanks for this movie. But there are a lot of fals facts. Topcon use also active surchfunction If you use RC5. You can change between active and passive. The next point is that the range of communication is up to 700 m If you use RC5, not only 300. You can use Topcon Totalstation with or without RC5. You are free to use different mobile device. So you only have take Windows-System to use Magnet-Field.

Thanks for the response! We can address your comment line by line: 1. Topcon has an active "Search" function using the Infrared on the RC-5, but it does not have an active "Track" function with diodes (like Trimble & Leica). 2. The advertised range may be longer, but after real world range testing with the RC-5, you typically get 1000-1200 feet. 3. Yes, you can use the total station without the RC-5, but you lose the active search function and range. 4. It is possible to use other devices, but we just showed Topcon's most popular device, the FC-6000 Tablet.

i need a new data collector for my TopCon HiPer V GPS unit. FC-6000 is about $5000 for the tablet and Pocket 3D software but i feel like i really like the Panasonic Toughpad. I feel like the toughpad with the Pocket 3D would be cheaper than the FC-6000.

That intermitent noise of Topcon is annoying. You use that im the connection site and people will be distracted thereby its a hazard, it can be the cause of accident. Topcon should know better

It is an audible signal that the instrument is tracking the prism. It comes from the factory turned on. It can be turned off very easily on the display of the gun.
