THANK YOU SO MUCH, I've understood the basics and been a good general for a long time, LONG time, but this video helped me to pick to pick apart my battles and take a second by second look into all of my battle tactics and recognize how many little tiny things I could do different to change me from a good general into a great one.
@K9Jacky9 жыл бұрын
Nice move CA. New players won't feel overwhelmed and find their access to the finer mechanics of the series once there are more of these videos, and more experienced players will have a place for themselves to go consciously through the basics again, as any good commander should from time to time. And, looking at your recent announcements and releases, I'd say it's also a very good time to start a thing like these. Since obviously aiming to increase numbers of players, these should have a visible door to start at.

@TheItalianDago9 жыл бұрын
If you want to be a good general in Total War you're going to need to know what's a winnable fight and what's not. You're going to want to know when to set up a encampment, ambush a larger army, or go head long in. At the start of the campaign when using a smaller faction such as a barbarian faction don't lose you're whole army in one fight. If the battle turns away from you have a organize retreat but don't just send you're whole army running at once that's a good way to be routed to the last man. Send you're more valued troops in retreat then follow with you're invaluable troops. Retreating in good order allows some of you're army to retreat back to the safety of walls or at least to a better defensible position.

This seems like a pretty simplistic video, probably meant for new players, but it's good Darren is doing it as he defiantly knows what he's doing.

For cavalry tacticians: Utilize missile cavalries. Surround the enemy at all sides to provoke them at all sides, drawing their units at all sides thus separating them. Regroup once enemy units sufficiently separated by all units closing in on one separated group. Utilize shock cavalries. Apply encirclement maneuvers and utilize cavalry charges. Annihilate routed units. Repeat. Highly effective against conventional armies. Less effective against armies of anti-cavalry units and missile units. Limited effectiveness against all cavalry any (e.g. nomadic armies etc.). Utilize strategy against nomads, not tactics.

i find the abmush tactics the most useful thats why i love gorila deployment on some skrimisher cav. Having them attacking the enamies on the flanks and on the side means better flanking movement. And also the base formation having a safe sport can be good useing pikes to protect it is even better,

I wonder how many of the hidden modifiers will get mentioned in this, hnbonus_melee_cavalry_v_infantry which all cavalry get versus infantry? Cavalries inherent fear aura? Bracing? Charge cooldown? Of course, I am going to be a little cynical and guess that a lot of this stuff isn't going to make the headlines.

learned all this by playing Medieval 1, and Rome total war 1. firstly, use your own strategy/tactics, what ever the game says or making upp for yoy is no good at all. secondly, in battle i have lost many generals, and my men fight even bravely wen he dies, truly that the men losing their morale because of it, but cause of his death can lead to victory. why give up wen a leader dies? fight to get to him. thirdly, wen you have no siege engine to begin with you are screwd to engage any city with stone walls, unless you know what you are doing, but heavy casualties during the battle. depends wich enemy you fight and what family you folowing. defences inst hard in stone walls, because the AI/UI does not know what it is doing. you can assamble an huuuuuuuuuge archer army on top of the wall, no one is able to get to you unless they wake up from the dead. this video might be at help, but to be good, learn by you self, it is what makes you stronger to belive you can handle it. a failure leads closer to success, continue untill you make it, wich makes you stronger. know weaknesses, learn it by doing it. not watching video ;P played all total war games for 13 years. Total war gave what we wanted history, playing it. joy of it. keep it up Total war, you have done well and continue to it.

These surely are some of the most important points of historical warfare. I mean where would alexander the great have been without his special general abilities? "Alexander! we're in a really tight spot here, what should we do?" "Just let me blow this tune out of my horn, that will encourage the men and even sharpen their swords!" Yeah, Alexander isn't regarded as one of the best generals of all time for nothing. I mean, not everyone can choose their special abilities with such excellence.
