The Ardiaea come into their own in terms of standing armies/navies. For most factions maintaining a large army is a huge drain. For the Ardiaei they can fill an navy/army to capacity with full flags and profit from it. Raiding gives you a chunk of any income source within your armies circle of influence. If your army has one unit you get one chunk of that income source. If you have 5 units you get 5 chunks. If your units are all almost completely dead... still the same 5 chunks. If those 5 units are armored elephant mercenaries... still the same chunks. Simple. Best profits come from cheep units raiding valuable targets. Raid while your admiral/general's circle of influence overlaps the capital city of any playable faction (or any other income source worth ~1,500 income pert turn) and your army will pay for it's self if the units in it are low upkeep. Sack that city then raid the survivors every turn and you'll make a steady 1,000 or so profit. Don't let the more expensive unit options (scorpion ships and the like) tempt you too early. Your units won't be the best in the game, but soon you'll have a flood large enough to sweep away any faction. Keeping that all in mind. Legendary difficulty becomes a cakewalk with the Ardiaei.

that is liburnian ship not illirian. I live in Zadar ancient liburnian capital (Iader in game) and we know illirians were different people. Histrian, Liburnian, Dalmatian and other tribes were not illirian tribes. they lived in roman provice called illiria so tahts where mistake came from.

This Faction was actually really fun to play as on the Grand Campaign. I'm currently playing as them on Legendary, haven't completed it yet, I need some more Port Cities. But I have pretty much won, I own around 130 regions and there are not many that's left to stand against me :P

+Total War Zone Regarding the bugged naval battles: I play them a lot (I am one of the weirdos that like them) and I found that the best way to "fix" the stuck bug is to back your ship. From my experience a ship gets stuck in a sinking ship and can't move forward. However If you try moving backwards you can then move along the sinking ship. Also, I recommend you play on half speed if it's a big battle because the micro in this is huge.

Illyrian King Just conquered your home land on my game. I was merciful and never looted, and released all prisoners. Illyria had been a confederation but was originally conquered by the Veneti. My main goal is to get the great Illyrian auxiliary units. Just Lukka in history.

@@arthas640 Yes indeed, but in this case it is used to describe primitive people. Illyrians were pretty developed for their time. The game is very inaccurate about this.

I actually really like naval battles. I also really enjoy naval assaults of cities. Playing someone like Cimmeria is much better because you can sack towns with your hoplite archer fleets. Naval battles are nice, I enjoy playing as Carthage and fending off Roman transport convoys with a tower flagship and about six pots. Haven’t gotten the hang of artillery ships yet, though.

Great video, but still sad how historically inaccurate the game still is ... The Illyrians had great land forces too. Armoured hoplites, cavalry and swordmen using the "Sica". Several war chariots have been found too. This game made the Ardiaei so weak on land, while they defeated the greeks and macedonians SEVERAL times on land. All just to make a "different" faction. A shame!

the Illyrians were pretty dangerous for a good chunk of history and they're one of the main reasons why the Greeks never expanded North, only east, west, and south.

@@arthas640 Greeks didn't want the north. It's a matter of choice. They wanted to have access to the sea, that's why Cimmeria, Colchis and Pontus were Greek factions as well. Where there's sea, there you'll find Greeks.

@@AssassinsCr2 they did stick close to the water but that wouldnt have prevented them from moving north if there werent dangers to the north. They did extend inland into central anatolia and into the middle east as far as modern Pakistan and india with some circumstantial evidence they even went as far as China. They did mostly stick to coasts though.

You truly think those raiders would stop Greeks if they wanted to expand? Even Alexander the Great got the road to the east cause they were the Arch-enemy of all Greeks. If the people to the north were strong, they'd have invaded us many times. But they tried it once and got destroyed by Antigonus.

Hey man! Cool video! Definately got me interested in trying this faction. I was wondering though, maybe as a tip, perhaps you can give some tips and tricks as to what to do in the campaign with this faction. How did you expand? Where did you go? What's the most fun to do?

+Maffin Thanks a lot! I will definitely take this into account for the next time! I usually start building up a fleet instead of an army as soon as possible. Then try to take sttlements in Italy, Greece or Africa with your fleet only and establish new colonies there. Quite cool.

Pretty interesting. I actually started with my focus on expanding my Army first, and just my Fleet alittle at the start. I to took Illyria very fast and then focused on Epirus and Athens, got in war with Macedon at the same time too. It wasn't easy but I manged to take control of Greece, after that I invaded Asia Minor and just pushed East. My fleet was pretty important to secure Macedon and Hellas but my focus was always on my Army. I expanded my Fleet more when I invaded to Asia and Syria. I guess it would be more fun to do as Total War Zone did, to invade Italy and Africa but since I played on Legendary I wanted to have a strong foothold in Greece, and it would be to hard to defend locations far away from each other ^^

I'm not even Greek but in the ancient world I'd have to say that the Greeks had the coolest culture. I'm actually Italian and Irish and I have to say that the Greeks were extremely impressive not just in warfare but philosophy, astrology, and legends. Greek Mythology def told the best stories of any of the ancient religions. I love Celtic culture as well but I dislike my Roman heritage a bit. Of course they kicked ass and were the superpower of their age but they also wiped out a lot of beautiful and interesting cultures. Luckily they found a love for Greek culture as well and preserved it. I'm not sure how much of the Celtic culture we'd be able to understand without the Irish since the Romans never invaded (thankfully). Even Ancient Persia was really cool and of course so was Egypt. Just because you don't share ancestry with another group of people doesn't mean you can't admire their culture and achievements. Some of those old Persian Statues were gorgeous.

emmmm I give it ago but personally can't stomach Naval battles in RomeII/Attila, such a wasted opportunity. It seems CA has no intention in fixing the issues/bugs regards Naval battles. I do what most other players do and just auto resolve them. Shame :(

+Total War Zone I'm not hating for the sake of hating. I'm really impressed by the art and animation that's gone into the naval battles, It's a shame the game designers did not do it justice to say the least. The whole naval gameplay comes across as either not thoroughly thought out or just unfinished/work in progress. It's really a shame, CA has had plenty of time now to address these issues and makes me think that it's in such a mess they haven't now the time/resources to sort it out.

John Kazixis They are, but only on land. In sea however, they kick ass and they are probably considered as top 5 at least in naval power
